i agree, a bunch of nonsense. went to one sermon and they spoke of the bible once the entire time (just one simple quote) and talked about stress the rest of the time. didn't really mention much about God. i have a friend who used to know one of his sons, he lives in a 3 story mansion... same friend is also friends with a girl whose father is a pastor at FOTW and says that there is a room that kerry and his wife have access to only and it uses their finger prints to get into the room. no one but those two know what's inside. (i'm sure we could imagine all kinds of things...) i have another friend who attended, she said she felt like all they wanted was her money. what i want to know is why he got so cocky as to change the name from fellowship of the woodlands to "the woodlands church," as if it is the official church of the woodlands or something. give me a break buddy.

From time to time I'll see Shook on TV while channel surfing (as I am right now) and I cannot once recall him ever preaching Christ and Him crucified. As far as I'm concerned, he is right up there with Osteen and Jakes (AKA a false prophet). These motivational, self-help "preachers" preach a feel-good message, but they're all far, far from the Gospel. Shook may seem like a nice guy, but be warned, he and his ilk travel the broad road with the wide gate. Stay away from him.

I love going to his church on sundays, and every time I go there's always a message for me. My daughter who has autism loves to go she loves the music and she sings her little heart out it's so amazing!!! This church is filled with Love and spirit. Only a real christian would know that! For the ones that criticizes, try find God in your lives and then go to church any church really..

A Cult of Personality Only. Not Christianity. Feel Good Sermons while the "church" is all about the money. Family member gave 10 GRAND and was "blessed" with seeing the man himself at a small function for major donors. That is the only way you will have access. The members I have found to be extremely self righteous, angry, judgemental and small minded. Not all but enough to make it unbearable. I dont know what Mr Shook is teaching but it helps make his members obnoxious holier than thou jerks. I refuse to drink the kool aid and fawn over Mr Shook and his interpretation of Christianity. STAY AWAY! Mr Shook was the son of a pastor who attended seminary for MONTHS ONLY. He answered the call alright. It was from his banker, not The Lord.

at first I liked FOTW, then I longed for some "old fashioned" lessons, songs( I know) and not from some orchestra that I later saw at Pappacito's having drinks..I always thought the music group were members (I thought "what a bunch of talent in 1 place" but I later found out, they are HIRED

doxdox:  Kerry was born the son of a preacher who started in Arkansas.  His father became pastor of Champion Forest Baptist in North Houston.  Kerry went to Baylor University where he met and married his wife.  Kerry, however, never completed more than a year of seminary. He's definitely gotten by on personality, rather than talent.  He's also a micro-manager and burns through people near him at an alarming pace.  Not unlike another well-known person from Arkansas, Bill Clinton.  By the way, Bill went to Kerry's father's church when he was a child...

FOTW is a feel good, watered down, unbiblically founded (no elders) church. It's OK for seekers who don't want to hear about sin, repentance, or hell. I am just afraid that many people who truly think they are saved will end up in hell because of Kerry Shook - but they will feel good about themselves when they get there. Save your money and just buy a good self-help book.

Have you ever read his biography?? I have looked everywhere, on-line, multiple search engines, wikipedia, at his websites, his church literature. All I can find is that he was born in 1962 and is the innovative pastor of Fellowship of the woodlands. Nothing else, not where he was born, what he did before he came to Texas, not where he went to seminary.... absolutaly nothing. I find this very odd for a man who runs such a large church and has just finished a book. Is there something he is hiding???

My entire faith has been tested by this man and his church. He speaks so eloquently and passionately about the Bible, God and Jesus. I became so filled with the spirit, then it all came crashing down when I discovered out he is a complete fraud and in it for the money. I wonder if any of it is true or is the whole thing a giant scam? How do I know this? Well in our time of need, they turned their back on us, our phone calls were ignored for weeks, and then when we did get a call we were told to try and find a small group that could help us. We spoke only to secretaries, never to a single pastor. We were devastated. We gave so much and believed so strongly, and were ignored. They love to take in the checks, but when there is real need they dont give anything back. Try to talk to Pastor Kerry you cant he is isolated and untouchable. He doesnt even shake hands with the congregation after service. Then we find out it will cost you $2000, to get married in the new chapel, and the web site s... Read more

Kerry is good.  Damn good.  I used to go to his church, until I got an invoice in the mail after I gave a check for donation once.  Guess he got my name from the check.  He figured how much I should be tithing from my check amount and sent me a bill!  Can you believe the GAUL of this guy! He wouldn't marry me and my fiance nor would they let us use the grounds to get married.  I thought it was a CHURCH????  My mom donated 5K and never got a thank you card.  They used to live on my street in 158K house and then they moved into an 800K house.  What the hell?  My girlfriend was there  for years and when she asked them for help once with a deteriorating house after her husband split and left her with a kid, they would never return her calls.  She justed needed a little help from their carpenter ministry.  WHAT A CROCK OF SHIT.  Kerry, I will continue to send out press releases on your assets and will never quit until your congregation knows what a scam artist you are.  The truth is  fixing... My family and I have attended FOTW regularly for 3 years now. At first we really enjoyed it and thought the fresh approach to God's word was invigorating. But, as the seats begin to fill up and the television spots began to air more and more, we began to notice that the TV camera became more and more important to Pastor Shook than his live congregation. He spent the majority, if not all of his sermon looking directly into the cameras. He quickly developed an "I" problem. " I'm starting MY new series" or "I have named this series so and so", or " I have created this sermon topic..." you get the point. The church is about the body of Christ doing good works for Christ and serving and glorifying him. Pastor Shook seems to be trying to take more and more personal credit for things when it is the will of God and the spirit of Christ moving through the church body of Christ that is actually getting the job done. This bothers me greatly. The other thing that I can't agree with is that Pastor ... Read more

I have attended Fellowship for 8 years now. Some criticism is way off base, some is not. However the 1 thing that I totally disagree with is the Vanilla Christianity statement. Vanilla indicates plain, boring, without innovation. That is the last thing that Fellowship is. I came from a background of traditional hymns, where a guitar would have been blasphemy. The music here is like a concert with Christian rock and music from pop, rock and rap as well. Also great guests speakers like Mary Lou Retton, Stephen Baldwin, and Kurt Warner. When you walk in and the Pastor is on stage with Motocross bikes jumping over his head on a dirt tract set up on stage.... well Vanilla is not the description Id use. Love it or hate it, its not Vanilla Christianity.

Listen, this Church may not be for everyone, but the criticism here is ridiculous and unfounded. The name calling and the insinuations are not necessary. I do attend the Fellowship. I have never recruited anyone, but if asked Im not afraid to encourage people to attend. I have not found it to be full of yuppie snobs, just a lot of regular people. Some rich, some not, but with membership of 15,000 a weekend you cannot categorize each member in one sweeping statement. People come from The Woodlands, but also from Conroe, Spring, Magnolia and other smaller communities in the north Houston area. The church started with 8 members, and grew to this, so the message, the atmosphere and the devotion must be there and must be good. I was a former catholic who attend church on Christmas and Easter, I was always very suspicious of mega churches and televangelists. Now Im a devout believer who is involved, and I only reached this point after going through multiple churches and finding a home here. ... Read more

This church is all about money. They are heavy into recruiting, and it's clear that's because they want your cash. The message is like personal success, with a sprinkling of the Bible here and there. The video they showed on their website a while back geared toward telling teens to say no to sex showed a teenager rolling around on a Segway, asking walkers-by (including embarassed senior citizens)when they first had sex. Many of the people I've met who go to the church are so into the recruiting, that their children have asked my child to go to lock-ins at local game centers where the admission price was more than $50. It's constant, constant marketing, and in the process, God is given a backseat to Kerry Shook. They're building a huge mega place with a bookstore, cafe, children's entertainment places, etc., where these scary people can only have to encounter more of their own. It's like a Brave New World, with Kerry Shook at the helm. The women are like Stepford Wives. I hope... Read more

I attended fellowship of the woodlands and the youth ministry was horrible. I have never been in a church with so many clicks, snobby people. In the time we went there, nothing seemed to go right at home. It seemed like Pastor Kerry never had the time to talk to us when we went to him for questions. What really disturbed me was that every thing he said was on a teleprompter, or script! Even the PRAYERS! Very unreal and fake. I no longer attend his church.

Kerry's teaching sound too canned to me , a lot of it is probably true but I get the impression it is something he learned from books, tapes and favorite speakers i.e. Bill Hybils ,etc. not some deep lessons God taught him personally through life's experiences. Kerry sounds like he's talking to children with a very low I.Q. hence the gimmicky object lessons and visual aids every week, they are just plain silly and down right childish.Of course people have been subject to these type of ministers for so many years they have become very dumb and now they must be talked to on that kind of level. Kerry seems like a baby Christian himself, I think he avoids controversial issues and I get the impression that he's probably interested in personal success ,fame and popularity above all things. Kerry uses a worldy teaching approach and popular entertainment methods guaranteed to draw crowds but it is all building with wood, hay and stubble, it will all be consumed and destroyed in the fire t... I don't know where the previous poster got the idea Pastor Kerry is a 'feel good preacher', as that does not reflect Pastor Kerry at all! He delivers very powerful, very Bible-based message and tells it like it is, with no compromise. This month's series 'Ocean: exploring the depths of God's love' was extremely powerful!

Todays sermon LOVE Cannot be topped by any one. After reading Swdenborg Heaven and Hell your sermon hit a direct BULLS EYE. Directly on target, I would be greatly gratified if you could send me the words of James Garner's epitataph (and youres)you repeated near the end of todays sermon. I must repeat those words to MayBelle. appreciatively J W Kalk
