Pandora is a great site for listening to music on the internet. The only downside is not being able to choose a specific song if you wanted to listen to one. However, there are other places to find that. If one just wants to sit and do some work with some quality background music and maybe discover a new song or new artist, then Pandora is perfect.

Good listing. . . Pandora is addictive . . .and terrific background music at the office. The ads are a downer- yes, I understand they have to pay the bills. But like many music sites, I will enjoy it now before the obligatory "we've got to change things up" that makes a website worse. . .

Pandora is a fantastic music discovery service powered by the Music Genome Project, which is arguably the best musicological fingerprinting algorithm in existence. Here's how it works: 1. Type in an artist or song you love. 2. Vote on the first song Pandora delivers to you (thumbs up or down). This is important because the first song has been selected based upon a set of criteria Pandora has decided is emblematic of the artist or song you've selected. 3. Enjoy your custom radio station full of great music! 4. Be sure to vote down anything you don't like...your selection gets better the more you interact with it. 5. Bored? Repeat the process with a new artist or add one to the station you already created. In stark contrast to something like Apple iTunes' Genius function, which bases recommendations upon a quick genre check and mostly purchase and listening data of other iTunes users, Pandora recommendations are based upon the music itself. The genotyping process seems painfully manu... Read more

Not bad at all, but the only reason I use it is to get ideas for iTunes.

So I just signed up mere minutes ago, and while it hasn't given me some weird but cool find yet, its connected the dots and given me music I've liked. I'll keep you freaks informed... UPDATE: So I'm mellowing on some J.J. Johnson right now and I must say that its paying off for the jazz stuff in particular. My rock offerings hadn't given me much of anything I haven't heard before, but this is fantastic for a crazy old trombone player like me...

Brilliant service. I've discovered more artists in 3 weeks of this service then 3 months of Rhapsody.

Fun site and it can kick up some quirky "matches" for what you're looking for. Very entertaining. UPDATE: According to the site, their licensing agreements no longer allow users from outside the U.S. Too bad, because this is a great site. Another time that it sucks to be a Canuck.

it has really good stations i found most of the music that i like right now from this site and it's all free. the thing that i don't like about it is that i think they could do a better job at chossing the band that go onto some of the stations.

A friend (Marius) introduced me to Pandora. It does a good job of finding music I like and I've only had to give a thumbs down to a small number of songs compared to the ones I've given a thumbs up.

I'm impressed with this site, it usually does a pretty good job of finding something interesting. You can create your own stations simply by clicking below the artist or group you've looked up. Like magellan said, it'll occasionally come up with an odd match: I have no idea why typing in say Blue Cheer or The Afghan Whigs would lead to The Thompson Twins or Lil' Kim, but aside from that it's excellent. Sometimes they won't have something due to licensing restrictions, but they do have a huge selection.  I even finally heard an obscure  song ( that turned out to be truly excellent) called "I Am the Noise In Your Head" by a group called Griffin that I've read about and had been trying to track down for about a decade.  Worth investigating. It's not perfect, but it's a lot of fun.

Nice idea, but unfortunately this website is not available outside the USA. I'm not sure why, but personally I blame Metallica.

If you want to listen to a wide variety of music, get introduced to stuff you've never heard, and read about musicians and their music, you will not find a better place.

**OK, (!Link Url="http://www.pandora.com" Name="Pandora"!) is now free (ad supported). I'm listening to it right now, I recommend you try it... Type in any band you like, and Pandora creates a radio station based on music similar to the band you like. While the service will miss spectacularly every once in a while - Duran Duran matched with Grandaddy - overall it's a neat, free way to discover new music. ** Original Comment: I'm very impressed so far. I typed in one of my favorite bands, Grandaddy, and the service has been playing me some very cool tracks from pretty obscure bands like Athlete and the Field Mice. You get your first ten hours for free, and I think a year long subscription costs $36.
