Thu Mar 29 2007I like Orson Scott Card. While I can't say that I've loved all of his books (I agree with some of the previous posters, he should have ended with Ender Game), I've liked most of them, even his none fiction works. He's just a good writer.

Mon Sep 26 2005Congratulations, morons.I'm glad you've read work by every author, so you can gladly call him the worst.

Sun Mar 06 2005Best sci-fi write ever. I read Ender's Game MANY years ago, and bought it for my fiance. He devoured the book, and has now managed to polish off every other book that Card has written or co-written that he could get his hands on. Still, Ender's Game is the creme de le creme. If I was a teacher, I would make it a required read for my students.

Sun May 30 2004Card should be beatified for writing Ender's Game. But I could have done without all those sequals, excepting Ender's Shadow, of course. Granted, I was wrapped up deeply in each of the books, but at the same time, I was incredibly bored, somehow, or should have been. Xenocide, Speaker of the Dead, and Children of the Mind were all essentially the same book, and I could have done without reading all of them. But still, Ender's Game is definitely going on my Required Reading for the Universe List. Best book I ever read.

Tue Feb 04 2003Ender's Game is quite possibly the greatest single science fiction novel ever written. A friend of mine happened to read Ender's Game as his first foray into science fiction. When he went on to other science fiction novels, he was sorely dissappointed! It seems he thought all science fiction was going to be as good as Ender's Game. He didn't realize that he happened to chose what very well might be the best science fiction novel ever written as his first read. In his other works, Card is often very good, though there are times when he comes on too strong with his religious beliefs.

Thu Apr 18 2002He is wothout a doubt the best sf/f writer alive (enphasis on alive, Tolkein is dead) if i had never read the ender seies i would have never recived the inspiration to write. shot out to all my fellow Hatrackians!

Mon Jan 28 2002Absorbing and thought-provoking and an excellent read to boot. "Ender's Game" shares the same shelf as Dune, Stranger in a Strange Land, The Foundation series and other masterpieces of sci-fi. One book I didn't see mentioned was "Songmaster", a stand-alone novel that even my friends who DESPISE sci-fi loved. Tear-jerker without being cliche or trite and one of the most tragically human novels Card has yet wrought.

Mon Dec 31 2001I read Mr. Scott's article about Cults. After reading the article I would say that what he wrote could be said about Jehovah Witnesses, Christian Science, Seventh Day Adventist, etc. To me a cult is when the deity of Jesus is denied. That the resurrection of Jesus is denied to be a physical body resurrection, and that the virgin birth is denied. Cults always add to the scriptures with their own works as if the Bible ,as we know it , is not enough. For me this is a definition for Cult.

Tue Nov 27 2001Probably a good thing that Card lives on the East Coast. Its a 'given' that he is too close to too much human truth to be tolerated much in the Utah/Idaho complex. It's good to read some of the introspection that is 'voiced' as gospel truth by all but those with the authority to do so.

Sat May 12 2001I won't sing as many praises for this man than I did for Jordan and Eddings because his type of story and my taste clash. However, I will recgonize the man's amazing ability to create a world, and run with it. Card's ability to weave an interesting tale and keep it descriptive (but not too much) far outweighs Jordan and Eddings. I think his works are far more serious, but refreshing compared to those authors that make their characters a bit dull. Three cheers for this great author.

Sat Mar 10 2001His books, while having a lot of metaphor and making you think philosophically, still craft an interesting story using artful word choices and depth of character development. Everything I look for in a book!

Wed Feb 14 2001A tad inconsistent, and tends to extend some series past their natural life. But an excellent author nevertheless

Sat Aug 12 2000Orson Scott Card is probably one of the best writers in Science Fiction today. He has a way of building characters and weaving stories that involve you in the story. The best compliment I can give him is that he flows. --May he continue to take us to places we can only dream off and introduce us to people we'd like to meet.

Sat Aug 12 2000The best writer I've read, too many authors out there that are given credit because their books are very detailed, a book to me is not how well every single detail is drawn out, but rather the intelligent commentary between the characters. I do have an imagination and don't need a author giving me every single detail. And Card is a master of just doing it right...tell the story not a police report!

Fri Aug 11 2000Had I read Ender's Game earlier, it would have changed my life. As it was, I read it when I was 23, and still loved it. Some of his other series aren't quite as good, but they are all well written.

Thu Aug 10 2000Orson Scott Card wirte the best science fiction ever. It's thought-provoking and meaningful. His most well-known work, Ender's Game, gets better every time you read it.

Thu Aug 10 2000Orson Scott is one of the most flexible and fearless authors out there. He can spin a tale of gripping evil that will scare any parent (Lost Boys) to alternate history (Alvin Maker series and Pastwatch) to 1st rate science fantasy (Ender series) to an excruciatingly researched and utterly absorbing twist on an ancient fairy tale (Enchantment). Always and good read, worth the time and the money. As a reader, it's all I ask.

Wed Aug 09 2000I've only read ENDER'S GAME, but even so I can tell Card's an incredible, psychologically deep writer. It's really hard not to relate with Ender because of the way Card describes his moods, reactions, etc. It's like you're reading about yourself.
by kenn9545om
Wed Aug 09 2000I've read all of his books, and Card has an uncanny way to make characters (even bad ones) more realistic than some of the REAL people I know. Pick up one of his books... especially Ender's Game... and give it a try!

Wed Aug 09 2000Orson Scott is the best author I ever have read. His books are fun to read, but at the samr time present interesting moral dilemnas which really give you something to think about.

Tue Aug 08 2000My son forced me to read Ender's Game. From there I have read all of the Speaker for the Dead, the avilable Shadow series, Enchantment, Hart's Hope. etc. I find his books challenging from a social and religious view point. I look forward to many more books from OSC. Try www.philotiweb.net for more about OSC.

Mon Aug 07 2000No author's characters have seemed more real to me. The act like real people, something rare in novels today.

Mon Aug 07 2000OSC is simply put the best speculative fiction author currently writing today. his writing (perticulary Ender's Game) will affect you as no other author ever will; it did me. his writing reaches deep inside of you and shows you somehting about yourself that you never knew was there. It is indescribable to actually portray what happens from reading his books with mere words. i wish i could do better...
by spiralingmarce
Mon Aug 07 2000One of my two favorite authors! Card has the depth many lack and the humanity that others ignore. There is no black and white in Card's work; his writing is a photograph of life. Ender's Game is the best stand-alone book I've ever read; Speaker and its companions are something else entirely. Hello to my fellow Hatrackians, Sleepless Writers, Philotic Web guys, and Fresco Pictures people - Marce

Tue Aug 01 2000A very good writer. The Alvin Maker seriers is one of the most interesting creations I have ever read, and he pulls it off very well. I usually don't care for alternate history type books, but his use of magic and knacks as real take these stories out of the typical idea and give it a completenew life. Ender's Game was good, the idea of Speaker for the Dead was very good, but the rest of that series gets a little too weird for me, I did not care much for either Xenocide or Chidren of the Mind - it appeared he was searching for a happy ending.

Sat Jul 29 2000OSC is one of the greatest writers I have ever read. His books are in depth and for the most part don't leave any holes in the plot. The Ender Saga are the first books I read of his--Speaker is my favorite. -Khan(for all of you from hatrack)

Mon Jun 12 2000The ender series is provocative and gripping. With the aspect on children saving the world, it draws in many your readers to the world of ender. Five stars!

Sat Jun 03 2000The more I read of Orson Scott Card, the more he impresses me. His character development is outstanding in both Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead, as is his grasp of the little things that make people tick. If you haven't read him yet, indulge yourself. It's good reading for even those people who don't consider themselves fans of Science Fiction.

Fri Jun 02 2000This man knows how to write books! I have never seen someone mix religion with science fiction, and pull it off so exquisitely! OSC is great!
