Thu Aug 23 2007Good family show in it's day. When you only have three t.v.channels to watch this was good stuff.

Wed Nov 08 2006A horrible show. The only redeeming aspect of the show was Schnieder. How on earth did the show have such a long run?

Mon Nov 06 2006I have to concur with most of the prior reviewers' opinions that "One Day At A Time" was sorry television. With the exception of Valerie Bertinelli (Barbara), the casting and acting was rather poor. Bonnie Franklin (Ann) was bland when not whiney, MacKenzie Phillips (Julie) was butt ugly and loud, and Pat Harrington, Jr. (Schneider) was buffoonish even for comic relief. Moreover, the plots weren't intellectually challenging even when they attempted to tackle issues facing a single mom.

Wed Nov 01 2006An awful memory from my childhood, a vapid show that nevertheless had a long run for some reason or other. Valerie Bertinelli got her start here and so did MacKenzie Phillips John Phillips of the Mamas and Papas daughter. It wasn't the product of Michelle Phillips, a late 60's hottie, so, whoever her mom was she couldn't have been very physically appealing. I am sorry, but MacKenzie Phillips simplywas, in the immortal words of Zero Mostel as Max Bialystock in "The Producers" A FISH FACED ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE. There was also a character named Snyder, whose sole function appeared to be to act grouchy and stand around looking filthy. Horrible program, unfunny and boring.

Wed Dec 14 2005Somewhere in this country i bet there is a college class on 70's shows.I bet they would say Norman Lear was of the king of T.V. Sitcoms trash heap.I think i hated this one Sitcom most of all.Stupid,Boring,Talentless Characters.I could struggle thru eternity on who i hate most on this show. The schlocky Schneider, the whinny Bonnie Franklin,The future queen of lifetime(all men are evil)network,Valerie Bertineli. The standard thinly vailed plots expounded Lears intellectually bankrupt views.I use to hate this show in and of itself, however you have to trace it back to its father.Like so often in life you can always blame the parents in this case Norman Lear.

Sat Aug 07 2004Norman Lear had a good grasp on the happenings of the 1970's & showcased them in his sictoms. Bonnie Franklin (horrible casting as Ann Romano an Italian-American) was not a very good actress & she was not an asset to this series. McKenzie Phillips, as Julie, was very believable & relatable as a homely, gawky teenager. Valerie Bertinelli's Barbara had an annoying cutesy poo persona that wore thin very quickly. Glenn Scarpelli was atrocious with his big, greasey nose, zits & effeminate personality. Mary Louise Wilson, as Ginny Wroblicki, was an asset but just stayed around one season. Schneider was an annoying character, but the necessary buffoon for comic situations to entail.

Sun Nov 02 2003This show was very interesting because of the taboo subjects it covered...there was lots of drama, lots of comedy, and the acting was superb by all. I kinda miss it. But it did have a long run, but it wouldn't hurt to show the reruns again....

Sun Nov 02 2003Valerie B was a cutie, but otherwise this show was annoying as hell.

Sat Mar 08 2003Really loved this show. Valerie was always so cute and sweet and I thought the lines were funny. Especially enjoyed it when Nanette Fabray came on as the Grandmother - she is a pro and did a great job.

Wed Nov 06 2002What horrible acting? Sure, some Italian-Americans flop their arms around to make a point, but aren't actors supposed to be creative enough to use their brains? The only good thing about this show is Richard Masur. Can you believe that Pat Harrington won an Emmy for playing a cartoon character? It must have been a bad Emmy year.

Sat Jul 06 2002I thought the show was great. The first of its kind dealing with a divorced mom with raising her children while having a career at the same time. I thought the show ran two seasons too long. If you look at the eighth season it was full of transitions and changes. It started with: Barbara and Mark getting married and moving out, Julie and Max having their baby, Barbara and Mark getting their on campus apartment blown up and moved back home with Ann, Julie and Max moved back, Ann falls in love with Mark's father and gets engaged. Then the clincher of the season was when they got married. Maybe that's the season the plug should have been pulled. The ninth season (and final) was horrible and it was good that Bonnie Franklin decided to pull the plug. Seasons 3 and 4 were very good seasons and the show began to peak. Unfortunately season five was tragic because of Mackenzie Phillips' drug addiction blew open. I hate watching those episodes from that season. She looked horrible especially whe... Read more

Fri Jul 05 2002Not a regular viewer of this show by any means, but I saw at least a few episodes from every season up until about the time Hesseman joined; then maybe saw it a total of twice or three times after that. I just never found the show itself very appealing. But I did find Glenn Scarpelli very repelling!

Fri Jun 14 2002Iliked this show better the first couple of seasons. I cannot believe it lasted nine seasons tough. It was okay when Julie and Barbara were still teens. It got stale real fast at the end. I did not even watch it much at the end. I was sometimes irrritated by the character that Bonnie Franklin played {she seemed to overact at times}Barbara always seemed to be the best character.

Thu Jun 13 2002I never understood how this show lasted so long. There was nothing funny about it. It was actually sort of depressing in many ways. I absolutely disliked the character of Ann Romano. She was always searching for something she could never find. And Mackenzie Phillips was soooo annoying as Julie...she constantly had a new problem every week...unfortunately she really overshadowed Valerie Bertinelli...who was actually the most likeable of the cast. Schneider...created to add comic relief...didn't! Although trying to tackle the idea of divorce and single parenting, the show became nothing more than a half-hour "dramady" every week. Ugggh!!

Thu Feb 14 2002Same old Norman Lear plate of beans (See All In The Family). So what if Valerie Bertinelli is good looking? Get a photograph!

Sat Oct 20 2001"This is it, up on your feet, somewhere there's music playin... don't you worry none, you just take it like it comes, One Day at a Time..." I loved this show, especially Valerie Bertinelli as Barbara. Bonnie Franklin was also good, but a bit whiny at times. But she was realistic as a hard-working single mom trying to raise 2 teen daughters. Valerie was great at juggling a basketball and wise cracks at the same time!

Sun Sep 09 2001The show was okay, but I couldn't stand Valerie Bertinelli then, and I still can't stand her....

Mon Apr 09 2001One Day At A Time seems like something that Marsha Brady would write for a story. It's extremly corny and tasteless, and even though the characters develop, you don't want them to, because they are that annoying and dull! They have like no lives whatsoever!

Fri Aug 04 2000The only reason this show lasted, it was the best out of a horrible lineup.

Mon Jun 05 2000Whiney characters, rather unpleasant to watch any of them.

Mon Dec 13 1999A pretty terribly written show, but Valerie Bertinelli was so cute that it merits 3 stars. Actually she was so cute it would get 4 stars, except that Schneider was such a weirdo that it goes back to 3 stars. Do you follow me?

Wed Nov 03 1999Big crush on Valerie Bertinelli at the time for me.
