Wed May 26 2010Office Max is a horrible, horrible place !! They treat the employee's like crap !! I worked there 6 years and they hired this manager that didn't know his head from his ass !! He was getting credit for everyone else jobs !! Which his employees carried him otherwise he would be gone and he has no backbone !! Well i was released from them after (get this I got a great review a few months before) Then in Janurary i was let go , cause i didn't sell enough max assurance !! Well most of my time was in the back , for i worked receiving and logistics !! That was just an excuse , i know they got rid of me cause i was higher paid then alot of others !! And their policies have got bad !! I gave that place all i had and sved the store managers ass more than once and that goes for all the other dedicated workers that saved his ass too !!! I found out someone else that gave his all is gone today !! This company does not deserve anyones buisness so go somewhere else !!! Horrible managers and district... Read more

Sun May 23 2010Officemax indeed does suck..ive been working for them for a year now and I cant stand it. However, I have to deal with it due to the economy in the toilet and have to settle for what I can get. Officemax is way overpriced and they pressure their customers with stupid max assurance crap...The worst part about officemax is working for them. I started with 37 hrs a week now im down to 20 because no one is buying maxassurance because they dont have extra money to spend now a days and I get my hours cut because "im not selling". Its bad enough that I only make $7.25 and hour (officemax doesnt do raises either) for a job that I should be making atleast 10/hr . Not only do I sale..I have to unload the huge trucks, handle heavy equipment, be a cashier, and I am forced to lie to customers or I will lose my job. If you come into officemax and you dont want maxassurance on your computer they will make there associates lie to you and tell you we dont have it in stock and you can order it. As far a... Read more

Tue May 04 2010every since they ripped me off on my rebates (about 6 years now) I haven't set foot into their stores. I think they should change their name to "officemini" to live up to reputations.

Tue Mar 02 2010I wish I can give it ZERO star. Bought a computer mouse from OfficeMax. Did not open it at all as I found more mice around the office. Brought receipt, mouse in original, unopen package to the store to return. Guess what? They have a 14-day return policy on electronics like a computer mouse. Won't take the product back. Won't give my mony back. Please do yourself a favor. Never shop or buy anything from OfficeMax again. It's easier to throw your money in the toilet than dealling with this crooked company. This kind of business practice is a sign that this company does not care about its customers. So, go somewhere if you could. Costco, Bestbuy, or Amazon.com. Anywhere else you'll be treated with respect. Again, I will never ever buy anything from OfficeMax again. I told the store manager he'd better start looking for a new job somewhere else. This kind of company with this kind of policy will not survive in this world for too long. Anyone else still shopping at Circ... Read more

Mon Feb 01 2010I placed an order for a CPU, monitor, MS Office and a wireless keyboard & mouse on Jan. 20, 2010. I received an e-mail saying the order had shipped on Jan. 26. I had tracking numbers for all of the items except the CPU. Everything arrived on the 27th except the CPU. I e-mailed that day asking about the CPU. When I had not received a response by Feb. 1, I called customer service. I was told that OfficeMax does not always respond to e-mail inquiries & when it does the response is usually very late. The person on the phone was rude and told me she does not know where my CPU is at this time. She assured me it has shipped. I am amazed that a company has a policy of not responding to customer e-mails.

Thu Jan 21 2010I ordered an Acer Timeline 15.6" laptop online at OfficeMax.com on Thursday, January 14th that stated it was in-stock and ships in 1-3 days. First, I received a call from customer service verifying my credit card and address information. Then I called on the following Tuesday OfficeMax customer service to see when it would be delivered and the representative told me by the end of this week. Then on Thursday, January 21 I received an e-mail "We are sorry to inform you that we cannot fulfill your request for the ACER 15.6 TMLNE LAPTOP. This item is not available for delivery in your market area at this time." Meanwhile, since I have received this new e-mail stating that my laptop cannot be delivered, the price of the same laptop has increased by $150 and it still displays that it is in-stock and still will ship in 1-3 days. I contacted customer service and spoke to a supervisor and she told me that it is not available at the district warehouse, and I asked her why they cannot ship thi... Read more

Thu Jan 07 2010I ordered $700 desk, bookcase..etc in Dec 22nd. They shipped and never delivered. They never contacted me. I found out from calling them the items were damaged so they never delivered. So they resend the items, a few days later I call them. They claim the items were lost. They place a tracer on the items. About 20 days from originally ordering!!! Everytime I called OfficeMax they said they would get in touch with me the following day. They never called me once. They finally sent me an email stating they have given me a credit, they said they would be happy if I wished to reorder the items! I checked the items on the website and they were $100 more in all. I'm done with them. I'll get them to refund my credit card. I will never do business with these clowns again. Good I will take my business elsewhere.

Wed Dec 23 2009I agree with you all. This weekend, I went to an OfficeMax store to purchase a camera. They said that they did not have the camera in the store, but it is in fact at the warehouse and they could ship it to my house in 1-3 business days. They gave me a number to call so I could track the shipment anytime I want to. Sounds good, right? Wrong. On the 3rd business day, I decided to call the number to track my shipment. Low and behold, the representative on the phone says, "I'm sorry, these cameras are on backorder and will not be available until 1/25/10. Why did they tell me that they could have the camera to me in 1-3 business days, when they obviously could not? Now I'm sitting here stuck without a Christmas present for a certain person. Thanks a lot, FalseIsMax.

Fri Nov 06 2009Just left the Office Max on Jefferson Ave in Newport News; what a joke. I tried to get some color fliers printed for a project and was told it would be a 24 hour turn around time. NOBODY was in the store!!! He slapped a multipage form for me to fill out and then insisted I use a RED pen; when I said I would use my personal pen he told it was company policy to use red. I asked if he could look at my document and see if it could be done faster he told me I needed to fill out the form; I just needed a few color photos. He suggested I use the crappy floor copies or fill out his form. He seemed pissed off that he had to deal with me for a lousy few copies. I predict they will be out of biz in a year.

Tue Oct 13 2009I was recently let go from this company...so I may be a little biased but I feel I have a good opinion of why people are getting terrible customer service. With the economic decline upper management has found it quite convenient to cut payroll more than usual, and use the exempt staff...ie..salaried management, to pick up the slack. Not only is this affecting the customer service, but they are continuing to ruin morale for management. Although the VP'S and higher could care less about morale, they do not realize how this directly affects the customer. Upper management has found it in their better interest to create a larger work load, forcing management to work 60 hours plus....exempt...so no over time... To top that off they threaten the management that if the work is not done they will "find someone who can". Nice huh... So the fear factor is working on management, and if a amanger is let go or quits they can then higher another manager at cheaper pay, and work them to death ... Read more

Tue Sep 01 2009READ THIS CURRENT REVIEW 9/1/09. I ordered a computer (#21912290) online at Officemax.com. It was on Sale that week 08/02/09-08/08/09 for the nice price of 549.99. I decided to buy it on that weekend(our only tax free weekend of the year on computers). I called to see which stores had it in stock, but decided not to drive the 35 minutes to go pick it up, because the web site said it ships in 1 to 3 days. So, I ordered online on the 8th and got an immediate confirmation email with my order number. 4 to 5 days go by and I go online to check the status to see if it had shipped. No change in Pending Status. After 7 days, I called the customer service line to check the status. I was told that they are given 10 business days to notify the customer of status. So, I wait 8 more days. Now it is the 24th of Aug 16th day(11th business day) since I ordered. The web site stills says they can ship them in 1 to 3 days. No email, No courtesy call, Nothing. So, I call customer service again. I ... Read more

Mon Mar 02 2009Worst Customer Service I placed My order for computer on Feb 22nd, and it was supposed to be shipped in 1 -3 Days. After not getting any response, Called them on 25th Feb they put me on hold for 6-7 min and they verified with my Back and confirmed every thing is OK and it will be shipped. On 25th Feb I got an email that my order was canceled due to non availability. And have to pay $200 more for the same thing. My point is it was not my fault that it was not shipped on time so why should I pay $200 out of my pocket. Never every Buy any thing from them You won't get it.

Mon Mar 02 2009I ordered through office max and bought my hp laptop. I would like to inform everyone that this is the worst customer service that i have ever gone through. This has happened to me twice through this company. I have gone through the hassle of trying to get my laptop off back order (out of stock and they are ordering more) for the past 10 days. I have been lied to by the customer service 3 times now. The first one told me what their website said "it will be their in 1-3 days. The second one told me that it was on backorder and that "it will take 15-30 days to get. An hour later i recieved an email that it was being shipped "from another warehouse and will arive in 5-7 days from the purchase date". When i call again, i am told that it will take 7-10 days. So finally when i called today, i am told it is cancelled because they are all gone. This is a complete waste of time. Do not order from them. I will EVER go through this company again an do not recomend anyone else does either

Thu Jan 08 2009It seems like shipping takes forever for items that are on sale. They duducted the full amount from my credit card, but order status now says estimated shipping time is 5-14 days. Duh! (The order was made on 1/1/2009) I'll just cancel my order tomorrow. And I just hope that the refund process will not take for weeks. NEVER buy anything from OFFICEMAX!

Mon Nov 24 2008Poorly trained employees. High prices. Lack of variety in their technology department. Don't waste your time. Staples and Office Depot are far superior, plus BestBuy and CompUSA are much better for technology. If you want ever lower prices and a wider variety of goods dealing with computers, I highly recommend NewEgg.com.

Mon Nov 10 2008Never had a good experience, nor a bad one. Many items were broken and overpriced, but the refund department was reasonable.

Sat Nov 08 2008I am a former employee of OfficeMax and I loved it in the early stages but as it progressed it got boring and unfair. I learned that an employee that had been there 3 years was making 25 cents less than me...what? Then I reported possibilities of fraud and nothing was done to fix them. We have no freedom planogram wise so we cannot alter much to make the store more customer friendly. I also had been employed for a year and 6 months and did not get a raise even though I was promised one after a year. Maybe its better to shop there than work there, but either way I am never going back there.

Tue Oct 14 2008as a former 3 year employee, i had my ups and downs with officemax. Officemax in general is a good company with a wide variety of products and services. The only things that were negatives while employed there are: 1. Officemax never has enough employees in the stores, we would constantly be missing "1 additional person" in our rush times. Also the training is non-existent and comes on a need to know basis. The limited spiffs are pathetic and do not compliment your mostly a little higher than minimum wage. 2. the lack of advancement in the company from sales associate upward is hardly utilized and is corporate bs. 3. Stores need to be updated with the new design as soon as possible. My former store is in serious repair and any store which has the Blue Painted Aisles..it doesn't even look right since our store colors now are Black and Yellow. 3. The furniture area needs to be expanded and or redesigned with a fresh/modern/customer accessible/experiment look. 4. Security cameras in all s... Read more

Mon Sep 29 2008Awful-frustrating-time consuming, this was the first time i bought a big ticket item, bought a monitor..... broken monitor, had to exchange it 4 times to get one that worked, which required me to go to 3 different locations due to stocking issues, the people were rude and condescending to me when i asked to try the monitor before bringing it back home which caused me more trips back and forth to get what i had paid for. Secondly my max assurance plan was supposed to be registered online, which could not be completed due to the website not working. I will not shop at officemax nor recomend it to anyone ever again, and will take my small business needs to a competitor from this day forward.

Thu Jul 24 2008Worst customer service by a manager and an associate. I had found a wireless router on sale by searching their website. The price was originally $59.99 but on sale for $39.99. The sale price was not listed on the shelf, but I took it to the cashier to see if it rang up with the sale price. The router was listed as the original price. I advised the associate that this was to be on sale per their website. The associate became very ruse and said that I need proof of this sale. I asked if they could research their website and was told "NO". The manger was of no help and the associate looked at me and said "I wish I was off work because some people deserve to die". Horrendous. I will no longer shop at OfficeMax.

Tue Jul 01 2008Dont shop at officemax. I used to work there and all they want is your money. They dont care if you actually need what they are selling you. Employees are told that if a customer asks for something to get two of that item and put it in their baskets. You will always get bad customer service because officemax doesn't care about their employees so most people hate their jobs and it shows when they help you.
by bjennings
Wed Feb 27 2008I made an accidental purchase online. I tried to cancel the order right after I made the order. Officemax would not cancel my order and so therefore I could not order the correct item. I did not receive quality service and would not recommend them.

Fri Feb 01 2008I had a HP 56 black cartridge refilled. It costed more than the price I was quoted. I had the cartridge a week and 1/2 and it ran out of ink. I normally get 4 months or more with a refilled cartridge elsewhere. The employees were rude. I will never go there again for anything!

Sat Jan 26 2008I also feel that if I could rate OfficeMax a 0 I would. I purchased an expensive L-Shape desk with a hutch for over $1700 dollars. The store told me it would be 7-10 days. Customer Service said 7-14 days after numerous phone calls and many promises of shipment the next day. I canceled the order. I am sure they will try to deliver it but I also canceled the OfficeMax credit card. Hopefully that will stop them from trying to deliver it since they can't bill it. Then again the credit card probably won't get canceled either. I will never shop again at OfficeMax sucks.

Wed Oct 10 2007Worst customer service ever! They seemed to be good with customer service when we didn't know any better. But when we needed it, they lacked. We dropped off 2 ink cartridges to be refilled for their so-called 12.49 ink refill deal. This was exactly 3 days ago. We were told we'd get a call when it was done and that it could even take up to the 24 hours to get this done since they were busy. On the 2nd day after NO PHONE CALL AT ALL, my husband called and was put on hold for 30 minutes and then he hung up. I called again and was told that it should be done the next day by 11 am because someone named Marlene takes care of that and she's the only one and it's been "busy". It's now 5 pm and still no phone call, of course. We just called and they said they'd call us back. We're going to just pick up our cartridges and go somewhere else. We'll give our business at ANY other store that we can whenever we can help it. 3 days to fill up 2 tiny ink cartridgs and you still don't even h... Read more

Fri Jul 20 2007OMG THEY SHOULD BE PAYING ME FOR THE AMOUNT OF TIME I SPENT TRYING TO BUY A COMPUTER ONLINE WITH THE REFERENCE CODE FROM A CIRCULAR. Wed Apr 25 2007This place is unreal! First off I am greeted by a used car salesman at the door, then yet again by the printers. If I wanted your damn help I would have said yes the first time you asked me. They have these radios and this red haired guy and really small lady are obviously oblivious to the fact I can hear them tell each other he's over by the printers. What the hell no one is in the damn store people? There's a staples down the street, I'll take my money there thank you. If you're in the Lake Zurich area go someplace else. This place suks!

Thu Jan 25 2007ordered 4 Sealy chairs from OfficeMax.com. They were said to be backordered and delivery time was given as 5-14 days. On day 13, with no chairs or further notification from OM, I phoned them and this was the response I received via e-mail on the 14th day (since they were actively promoting this chair in-store I would say that they either have the worst order fullfillment process or they are being deceptive in their sales practices): Dear OfficeMax Customer, This notification is to inform you that item Super Task Leather Chair could take until 03/11/07 or longer to come in from the vendor for fulfillment of your order. Since the time frame is outside our normal 10-14 day backorder policy, we are letting you know we will not be canceling your order during this time. Sat Dec 30 2006I'd give ZERO STARS but RATEITALL won't let me! I ordered a SanDisk 1GB SD card on 11/24/06. Status has been "backordered 4-7 days" ever since. It was "in stock" when my order was submitted. Each call to customer service give me a later date for getting the item in stock and shipped. The last time I called I was told it was backordered again. This item is in stock locally at most any store so there is not a problem with supply from the manufacturer. I will not make another purchase from Office Max even if they do eventually ship my order.

Mon Nov 27 2006Office Max only gets worse as retailer when you add their on line entity. After finding an item for $229.99 and then attempting to purchase it, the price increased to $3299.9 when I added it to my cart. Although I was advised to fax the page to an agent and was told to expect a call back, this never happened. Instead, I am sure that I pointed out an error on one of their pages and gave them time to fix it before they could get back to me. This is certain because the next agent that I spoke to was sure that I had incorrect information. He even told me that the other agent had no right to do what she did and that he could do nothing to honor the price. What loyalty we create for our customers and then we wonder why customers get rude and nasty with customer service reps. Office Max, you have no service in customer service and if this keeps up you'll have no customers. Please improve your service and response to customers.

Fri Nov 24 2006Office Max sucks. The Manager at the Michigan city, IN store must be paid peanuts. He isn't worth much more than that. Don't try to return something that is totally unused, brand new, after the 30 day period. Jerk. I almost took my $20.00 out in damages to shelved products... but I decided to tell the world about it instead.
by ur2bgr8
Tue Nov 21 2006I prefer OfficeMax retail stores over Staples and OfficeDepot. Prices are about the same at all 3 but service is more knowledgeable and easy to find at OfficeMax. Although they do try to sell, they are not pushy. The problem for OfficeMax is trying to find a store. There's one for every 4 or 5 of the competition it seems.

Wed Nov 30 2005OfficMAx. It all depends on where you go and what season it is but OfficeMax is actually a pretty good store. They are friendly and so far all my delivieries have been successful and have not dissapointed me. In store selection is pretty good if you need office supplies but if you want computer equipment I'd recommend going on their website. They've got a lot more product to offer online but if you like interacting with people then I would recommend going in store.

Sun Nov 13 2005I was excited to see this weeks add for a computer, LCD monitor and printer for $349 after rebates. This is well worth the price. Actually, I am purchasing these computers win friends for a charity organization. When I arrived at the store, I was told that the computer was an HP and could only be ordered. Also, the shipping was an ADDITIONAL $99.00. BEWARE, their instore computer selection is horrible and their ads are misleading. We visited the local BEST BUY and they were more than helpful. I plan on staying away form Office Max in the future.

Sun Feb 15 2004Terrible service when they sent me the wrong stuff. I ordered a printer and a digital camera. The delivery guy arrived with one small box, so I knew there was a mistake. I opened the box to find the right camera along with a hard drive I didn't order. No printer. Consequently, I explained the error to the delivery guy and refused the order. I expected he'd bring it back to the store and someone would come back in a few days with the right stuff. I heard nothing from OfficeMax for several days, so I finally called them. I was told that because the order was refused, they cancelled the order and credited my account. So I told them I never cancelled the order and was still waiting for my order. The customer service manager said I'd have to reorder, and by the way, the price of one of the items had increased and she would not honor the price of my original order. Pi**-Poor service in my book. Hello Staples. :|

Thu Dec 18 2003You can often get good deals here if you don't mind waiting for a rebate. But, the service kind of sucks, they are usually rude and treat their customers like dirt. I only go here if I have to.
