On the downside, it's a tiny space.. But that's expected seeing as how it's midtown. The service is okay. The rolls are delicious - the oyster shooters are even better. Freaking DELISH, is what they are. The bartender (Steve?), is adorable.

Having read the safety report, I found nothing particularly alarming or unusual. It was no different than Mikuni's evaluation. We've always enjoyed the food at Nishiki and eat at the sushi bar. The sushi is high quality, particularly the specials. The Jeff's salad is a seafood salad absolutely loaded with seafood and is highly recommended as is the sea steak. Rolls are popular at this restaurant and I'd recommend the Chow Bella roll. Service can be spotty here. Junior is is the head sushi chef and when he's working, the whole sushi bar is full of snap, crackle and pop. When he isn't working, we've had a couple of bad experiences. One was bad enough that my companion got two pieces of sushi in 45 minutes and finally left hungry. We now call to see if Junior is working before we go, and all is well.

Restaurant serves Japanese dishes and offers take out, a seafood tank and daily specials served in an elegant atmosphere.

First of all, customer service is 50/50, any true restaurant patron will admit that about any restaurant, not just a specific one. Employee turnovers, employees having a bad day, etc. can have an affect on food servers. I used to wait tables while in high school/college. That addresses most of the other posts. Now, on to the real STORY. I have eaten here a few times. The last time, my friend's brother happens to be a sushi chef and made our sushi for us. We had the usual sushi rolls and nigiri sushi. 3 out of 5 of us ended up with cramps and diarreah that evening. I know that my friend's brother would not have tainted our food in some way, they are civil siblings. Since then I have heard this enough times from other people now to realize it was not an unusual outcome from eating there. Here is the most recent Sacramento County food inspector report from October 2006. Facility Information Details: Name: NISHIKI SUSHI Address: 1501 16TH ST 111 SACRAMENTO, CA 95814 Phone: (9... Nishiki is my favorite restaurant in Sacramento. Not just my favorite sushi restaurant. When I show up as I have for the past 4 and a half years, I always feel that I just walked into a party and everyone has been waiting for my arrival. I am always greeted by a hostess and or the manager, Norman, with a warm smile and the promise of a table._____ My favorite way to dine at Nishiki is to sit at the bar. Not the sushi bar (although a good time can be had there as well) but rather the adult beverage bar, especially when Tony is working. He will take care of all your needs. He is very adept in the ways of the bartender in that he gets patrons to mingle with each other. He introduces old customers to new and makes everyone feel welcome with the ease of a skillful politician._____ I think that the fish quality at Nishiki is great. I love the Pepperfin. A plate of sliced Hamachi with a light soy-lemon-rice vinegar-sesame oil-sauce pooled around and topped with thinly sliced jalapenos. The ... Read more

I am very surprised at some of the reviews posted. I think Nishiki is an awesome place. I never liked sushi until going to Nishiki. While sitting at the sushi bar, they encouraged me to try more and more types of sushi and were very courteous. They even made rolls specific to my preferences. I love the food and the servers are always great. I have gone back and will continue to. It's a great place to grab dinner with friends!

I enjoy going to Nishiki, its a great place to hang out with your friends. The food there is great, everything is fresh and delicious. They have friendly staffs. Our favorite sushi chef is Sang. He's friendly and has a great sense of humor. We enjoy going there and chatting with him. He always makes new and different things for us to try. Not only does he make the food taste great but he also makes the dishes stand out. He's very creative. It looks so beautiful, it should be framed. All the other Japanese restaurant just makes things that are from the menu. Thats why we only go to Nishiki now. The only bad thing I have to say is that the sushi bar server doesn't come around to offten (like refilling our water and tea). KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. NEXT TIME DRINKS ARE ON US SANG!!!

What the--?! This was beyond a terrible meal, and it was thoroughly crowded, so I don't understand why. Unless I just blame it on "take out syndrome." If I had been seated at a table with a waitress, I'd have sent my meal back, but when you take it out, you're screwed when you get home. I ordered a very simple dinner to take home, and waited a full 27 minutes before it was handed to me in a bag. My meal was this: Two pieces of tuna sashimi, two pieces of yellowtail sashimi, and the lettuce cup appetizer. That's it! 30 minutes! When I got home, I had four pieces of sushi. Not sashimi. My fish was molded over sushi rice, which I cannot eat. The fish wasn't well trimmed. The yellow tail was not trimmed of the white thready things on the edges of the fish, where the skin was removed, so it had "floaty white things" dangling off of them. The tuna was cut in a special way I've seen before, which I hate. The diagonal lines of cartilage are made to look "barber pole striped" down the... Read more

7 of my friends and I spent over $200 there last night (and the food was worth it, believe me!). However, Nishiki has TERRIBLE customer service! My friends and I were wrongly accused of "short changing" our server by our server's co-worker, Lindsey. We were treated with hostile actions and called inappropriate things by this employee Lindsey. To make matters worse, Lindsey flipped my friends and I off through the restaurant's front window! We were shocked and disgusted! It's too bad that this incident took place. We love the food there, but it is NOT APPROPRIATE that the employees flip off good patrons, such as my friends and I! We will NEVER go back there! DON'T GO THERE!

Nishiki is the best. The Sushi chefs rock and make the sushi bar a lot of fun! Great group seating also! The best thing is the food, we have taken several people who aren't big sushi buffs, but love the food and have been converted to sushi lovers! Try to make a reservation because Nishiki's is normally very busy

The sushi was great. Very fresh, fun atmosphere, friendly staff. Not really romantic if that's what you are looking for. But if you want great selection, great service, and reasonable prices this is it as far as Japanese food. It is my favorite place in Sacramento!

They have done it right here. You can get anything on the menu and then have your chief DEEPFRY it; this is a delightful way to have your favorite or newly created roll. The quality is outstanding and always great service. We eat out every day and this is one of our frequent stops. A definite must try for any one who like Sushi!!!

I am not quite sure what this place does to rolls. I did not expect the mayo-saturated sauce on top of a sushi roll. Pretty sure I will not be coming back to this place.

I LOVE THIS PLACE--AND ESPECIALLY DONNY BEHIND THE SUSHI BAR. PARKING SUCKS. GAY-FRIENDLY. EVEN THOUGH THE AMBIANCE IS NOT THAT GREAT, IT'S MY FAVORITE SUSHI PLACE IN SAC.
