2.5 stars. While Chalky has a point in saying that you can't count these evildoers out, I think the chickens are finally coming home to roost. After I shoot myself in the foot for that detestable cliche, I will explain. This team is like The Celtics of the late 80's and early 90's, overrelying on names of the past. Injuries are piling up: the team will start the season with the declining Mark Teixeira on the disabled list. Teixeira has turned into a fine fielding version of the past his prime version of Jason Giambi the Yankees had. Curtis Granderson will also start on the DL, and aside from his home run power, he doesn't bring too much to the table as he whiffs a lot, is now a sub-.250 hitter, and isn't even the fielder he once was. Brett Gardner is returning from missing most of 2012: there's no telling how this previously underrated player will do. The hobbled and disgraced A-Rod is a shadow of his former self, and won't return until July, if at all. Derek Jeter is coming off of a... Read more

It's just never safe to count the Yankees out. Even if they don't use mitts.

One of my favourite signs of the change of seasons at this time of year is reading oscar's annual assessment of the upcoming edition of the crew of the Klingon Bird of Prey.

I love the yankees win, lose, good and all the bad. Being a fan means you stick by your team through it all and never give up.

Assholes. Everybody hates them and rightly so. They make the playoffs every goddamn year. Roger Clemens is a yakass.

The heart of the axis of evil, the epitome of everything that's wrong with the world.  And still they struggle to play .500 ball.  To be honest, as long as they continue to suck, I don't really care how wrong it is that a team can have a payroll close to the GDP of a small European country.

These day's, you just can't maintain much faith in their future glories; in fact, the gravy days are over in New York- Their team philosophy is so torn-they just can't give it up, no two ways;  expect another world series win by Boston this year or soon.  The dynasty days are over-the post-apocalypse has set in and everybody's reaching for straws (Clemens at his age?); imagine the insane embarrassment  this team will suffer, with the lineup they have and the pay-role they dispense yearly, at the hands of their ravenous fans if 07 is a bust. They are a cartoon team, period.

They're the team I despise and root against. Yet, they're the team that has literally done everything and everyone in MLB, so I can't really gripe about them. One thing, though, one very volatile thing I can say about them: they are fools for firing Joe Torre.

You know, there aren't many things on this planet that I dislike more than the Yankees. Disease, war, terrorism, and the government might be the only things. Easily the world's most hateable team. Boring, self-adoring squares who all have the same preschool haircuts and shamelessly load up on the bandwagon to be members of the most corrupt team baseball has ever known... and get cheered on by ignorant fans who don't know any better. Pitiful. Even the home town fans have no excuse to cheer for these ***holes. Someone should have taught them to be creative and think for themselves when they picked their team, instead of just rooting for the home team because everyone else does. Maybe then they would have realized how wretched and foul the Yankees really are, like the rest of the country does (except for the bandwagon fans, who are even more shameful than the homers). Three final words to Spankees fans: GET A CLUE.

I think the payroll thing is a sorry excuse. Money does not play the game, create chemistry, afford good fundamental skills, or prevent injury. Florida and Anaheim have won championships while the Dodgers and Orioles bank a boat load of cash. What is great about the Yankees is that most of their championship run was raised from their farm system. ( Jeter, Rivera, Posada, Pettitte, Williams, etc.) Justice was traded to them for nothing. This team has good scouts, good coaching and an heir of mystique and confidence that is almost genetically linked to their pinstripes. If money was an argument for their championships, then how come with A-Rod, Giambi, Johnson, and Sheffield they never won a championship? has their payroll not increased each year since 2000?

if it wasn't for the boston rivalry(best, most exciting team in baseball to watch)no one would even watch these overpaid group of LOSERS.the yankees get paid to much NOT to win the world series.i know what your thinking boston is #2 even though thats no longer the case.minus manny's salary and what do you have?been a red sox fan my whole life and if i had to wait another 86 years i would.yankees have a bunch of pus@i#s on their team wasn't it great when pedro chucked that fat ass zimmer on his head by his ears or when varitek stuffed a rod's face in.i loved the look in the fans faces when the sox embarrased them in yankee stadium.be prepared to be let down again yankee fans.06sox are definately better then 05.plus you losers seem to have a hard time when it matters.god, the yankees really do SUCK!!!!!!!!!!

    YANKEES RULE!

I will say one good thing about the Yankees before I explain my 1-star rating: They keep making the playoffs. However, the payroll is a major reason why. For you Yankee fans who claim that New York is no better off financially then any other team, that is simply not true. I don't like the league's salary cap rules because that is what gives the Yankees the unfair cash advantage. I blame the league for this, not the Yanks. I am absolutely not a fan of anything to do with New York, but I can't blame them for exploiting the current financial situation in MLB. Now, most of the NY fans are estatic that the Yanks keep landing the big names in baseball. However, this practice of collecting so many stars with big egos is not healthy. A good team consists of one to three stars and players who know the game and can perform on a consistent basis. The Yanks continue to collect big-money stars for as many positions as they can get away with. The thing is, too many stars usually do not work well tog... Read more

I absolutely love the New York Yankees. I can't wait till tuesday watch my boy Moose shut down the Angels. But i do have to admit that big george just keeps bringing in older guys when in reality they need to get younger. Look at the twins and the a's, bunch of young guys going out and getting the job done. If the yankees had some kind of farm system, they would unstoppable and they would not need to keep going out and getting real good veterans who's bette days are mostly behind them.

UPDATE: We won 16 of 18 but they were against losing teams. We haven't had a breakthrough this year. We haven't beaten a winning team since, I don't know when. Since Bush took office in 2001, my team hasn't done anything special. But I still love them. OLD MESSAGE #1: I still believe. With the additions of Carl Pavano, Jaret Wright and Randy Johnson, I believe we're still in the hunt. We're the underdogs now. The Red Sox are now the target and we're looking forward to kicking their butts. Let's see how Boston responds to the pressure in 2005. It's gonna be fun and interesting. Go Yanks! ... OLD MESSAGE #2: We're still the greatest organization in the world. We'll win it all again, believe me. And it won't take 86 years either! HEH!

Load of superstars with super egos. George can't continue to buy championships. They rank in the bottom 5 (MLB) in fielding. Middle of the pack in pitching, Arod is most of the offense. They were overrated and now it's showing.

How could you not like the Yankees, Even though they Choked last year, they still made it to the acls finals, I would not say that was a bad showing. Ant they still sell out more games than anyother team in baseball. As for the slow statr, they are always slow starters, Keep your eye on them they will start winning games.

I don't think there is a team or a group of fans more annoying than the New York Yankees. I'm glad they lost again so that we don't have to hear all the big mouthed New Yorkers yap about how great they are. I won't deny that they have some talent, but so do the Cubs and the Braves and the Red Sox, but you don't near as much yaping from their fans (excpet when the Cubs fans talk about superstitions).

People say they hate the Yankees but when they sign with them they always say It's a dream come true! Pedro will probably say the same thing if he goes to the Yankees. Love them or hate them, they have a rich history and kicked butt more than any other team in history of baseball. ****UPDATE***** Well redsox04, no sense in getting personal with the fans! Yes, we know Redsox is on top now but it took them almost 100 years to come back. They had to fight the Yankees like crazy to win. They didn't sweep the Yankees like they did St. Louis. Enjoy your year because you might not see it for another 100 years (yes, we'll all be gone by then).
