I am a former dancer, woefully out of shape at this point, and have been looking for fun ways to get back into exercising. I got an email for a package deal -- one intro class, one climb and spin class, and one fitness class -- at NYPD so I took advantage of it. I haven't taken the fitness class yet, but here's my impression after the first two classes: I took the intro class with Lauren, and was pleasantly surprised at how well-structured the class was. There was a nice warm-up and a simple routine, and it was just enough to challenge newbies without overwhelming them. Lauren was great -- definitely a good dancer and I appreciated that she was serious about the craft. She was very friendly and managed to give everyone personal attention without the class dragging. I felt like even with that little taste I got a good workout, and the next day I was pleasantly sore all over....and yes, with a couple of bruises to boot. I went back a few days later for the beginner climb and spin... Read more

I had my first intro class today and I came away amazed! I wanted to say that it was love at first spin :) Our instructor Laura was very patient and took the time to teach us individually and so very friendly. She is so nice and very helpful! It was a hard class since I never danced like this before but I am coming back and looking forward to my next Intro class because I felt so great afterwards though very sore lol. I am so happy I found NYPD. I had an awesome session and can't wait for the next one. It is hard but once I got into it, I really had a great time.

I could not have been more disappointed with NYPD. The teachers are incredibly impersonable and whether classes are full or there are only a few people they have a routine. They're not willing to tailor their classes to their students and the teachers are not that great. They are snippy and shortwinded. All they care about is $$$$. It is really awful they think they rule the "pole world". They think they own the pros to the point they wont let them teach workshops at any other pole studio! Absolute Crap!! We should all support each other and each others studios not be money grubbing nasty b*t(hes

I was a student at S-Factor before I came here, and was always disappointed at S that we didn't learn very much in each class and that there were so many people to share the pole with. I came to NYPD in September. I booked a private lesson with Brynlyn to see if I could do enough to go into a Climb and Spin class, especially since at S-Factor, we never learned tricks on both sides. After that, I started coming to regular Climb and Spin classes. In my first 3 classes, I learned more at NYPD than I did in 3 8-week sessions at S-Factor. This place is a real fitness studio for women who like to be STRONG and sexy. The instructors are all very different, but you will learn something from each one of them. I've taken several classes with Wendy, and she's AMAZING- not intimidating so much as breathtaking. And I've never had a problem getting in contact with her or the studio. I love this place, and plan to be a student here for a long time. I hope to test into Climb and Invert soon,... Read more

I started at NYPD about a year or so ago. Though i can not go as often as I like, the instructors have always been PATIENT with me as I got back into the groove of things. As some of the other reviews, I took my first Climb and Spin with Wendy and yes, she can be intimidating and the class was very hard. Not what i expected at all. I live on Long Island and have been to several studios in New York. Most of them teach you basic stuff and that is it, so I was not prepared for the class. A lot of other studios charge you a lot of money and you get nothing out of the class. Especially if you are not a beginner. Many pole studios in New York are focused on stretching and basic spins. NYPD is the only studio where you learn a climb, spin and a sexy routine where you feel you had a great workout. I always walk away with feeling my money was well spent. As far as instructors go, Brynlyn is my favorite. She is a beautiful dancer and she always has great music selections. She is a very e... Read more

I'm am so sad that there are so many negative reviews as of recent(which is why I've decided I need to give my feedback about this studio). So I've started Summer of my 18th birthday only because I was looking for something different to do and it's been a year +/- and I really love this studio and all the staffs. Here's the break down. Yes. I remember when I first tried contacting Wendy, it was a bit difficult. I was trying to pay in cash because I recently got a credit card and didn't really trust using it yet..and since this studio only has staff available when there's a class...I didn't really know how to go about it. After much frustration, of me trying to schedule a time to pay in cash (which didn't end up working out), I decided to pay online and went to my first class-Intro to Pole with Brynlyn. I like to add that intro class is just that, if you have pole experience, you might find it too easy. Review of the Instructors: Brynlyn is amazing. She is the first in-studio pol... Read more

After taking pole a number of places in the city, I was really looking forward to redeeming my groupon classes. With a schedule mixup, I arrived as one class was just starting out. Hoping to jump in since it had just begun, the teacher shamed me (in front of the class) for not first registering online. As a dancer and teacher myself, I felt horrible that I interrupted class, but left wondering how women felt comfortable pole dancing in such a negative environment. While I have already paid for classes, I am grateful that I won't be spending any more time there. There are a number of other studios that focus on creating a supportive, comfortable environment--something that is hugely important for this style of dance. If you're just starting out, don't start off at New York Pole Dancing.

I took one climb & spin class with a friend and had a really good time so I bought a package. It was the 30 in 30 one so I basically went every day. It was definitely a fun work out, but I haven't been back since it expired. The package was a bit over $300 when I bought it this summer, I know that they have no consistancey in their prices and they go up and down all the time, but for me $300 is way too much to spend per month on classes. I see in other reviews they break it down to a price per class but no matter what way you look at it, it's still a ton of money per month, much more than a gym membership. It's also frustraiting because you can't practice what you've learned if you don't have a pole at home. They dont let you practice at all in between classes, you have to sign up for class if you want any pole time.So in the long run it's kind of pointless to keep taking classes unless you have the money to keep buying package after package so you can actually get good at it. I had ... Read more

Instructors are real pros. But the classes are very structured and lack flexibility, there is no answer to special needs, you can't practise in the studio. If you look for a smile and a chat after class, just choose another school !

Well, it looks like the word is out...I've noticed the classes at NYPD getting more and more crowded during the past few months. Not too long ago I was always able to find a class with 2 or 3 people but now it's almost impossible. And with NYPD's reputation, I am definitely not surprised. They really are the best. NYPD is hands down the best studio to go to if you seriously want to learn to pole dance. No cliques, no nonsense, no pretentiousness, no BS...you come in and get 100% from the instructors. They are very talented and experienced and are well equipped to teach everyone from the extreme beginner to the invert queens. I literally learned more here in my first month than in the 6 months I spent in another studio. I feel stronger, sexier, healthier and happier since I've started. Also lost the last couple of pounds that have stuck around for longer than I'd like to admit and more importantly, my body just feels more...alive. Sounds crazy, but I guess when you find something tha... Read more

I am currently taking classes at this studio. I took an intro class and found it interesting and challenging. I decided to buy a package and try it out (It was much cheaper than paying for single classes). This is where I feel that I was duped. In the intro class, I was with other people that never tried this before. I felt comfortable not being the only klutz in class. Now I'm in a class called Climb and Spin, which feels way over my head (it's the only class they offer for beginners that want a package). I am not in the best of shape, and came here looking for a way improve my physique. Now I'm stuck in a class with people that are way more advanced than I am. I feel foolish, and stupid among these girls that are climbing and spinning over and over as I struggle to even get on the pole. I paid a lot of money for these classes (hundreds of dollars) so I either have to show up, or loose my money. This place is good if you are planning to make a living pole dancing, or ha... Read more

have been taking classes for weeks now and it is really amazing! all the instructors I have are super nice and they make sure you learn at your speed and learn it right. Make sure you sign up for their enewsletters because that is where you get discounts from time to time. The studio itself is not as fancy as other studios out there but who care?! You learn the most here than at S Factory & Exotic Dance Studio.

I've been taking classes at NYPD for 4 months now and couldn't be happier. After just one week of classes, I began to see an amazing improvement in my strength, flexibility and self-confidence. I really enjoy the mixed-level classes at NYPD. The advanced students have been so supportive of my progress, and have offered tips on how to improve any weaknesses. Watching them also inspires me to become a better pole dancer and motivates me to work harder at my technique. The support of the students here really sets NYPD apart from other studios, and creates such a great, encouraging atmosphere. Classes in NYC are limited to 6 people and there are 4 poles. Even with a full class, I always feel I've had a great workout. The teachers manage full classes fantastically- we're constantly rotating and the short time I'm without a pole allows me to get water and catch my breath. It's a welcome break! I've been to two other pole dance studios in NYC and both those studios have been far more cro... Read more

I’ve been taking pole dancing classes for almost two years. I started at another studio, and eventually switched to NYPD. In my opinion, NYPD IS THE BEST. Each instructor’s level of professionalism, respect, and expertise is amazing. Every teacher is unique in her teaching style, but they are all nurturing and professional. There are many other pole dancing schools from which to choose. Some students (and teachers) from other schools take classes at NYPD. That shows how people respect NYPD in the pole dancing community. True, there may be less expensive options, but you get what you pay for. I've paid less money for pole dancing classes and got bad quality. At my old school, there were times when my class was cancelled but no one called to tell us. That unprofessionalism does not happen at NYPD. NYPD also stands out from other schools because it teaches pole dancing from a fitness aspect. Although we will "drop it like it is hot," our teachers make sure that we do it in a way tha... I have been a student at NYPD for a little over 6 months now. I couldn't be happier with the studio, the instructors, the price, the poles, the teaching method. It's all fabulous!! The instructors are ladies from the highest ranks of the fitness industry. They are top notch, all of them! They will help you to get fit and confident in no time! If you are looking for affordable classes, you can find them at NYPD. SINGLE classes are $40, however, NYPD offers excellent package options that bring your cost per class down significantly. I did the math and the last package I purchased brought the price down to $9 per class. $9 is pretty reasonable in this 'global economic crisis' don't you think? :) As well, they run specials on the packages, so there is always something that's affordable and conducive to your daily life. NYPD has their base prices, which I haven't seen change and are very, very reasonable, and yet they also offer special discounts on those packages all the time. The disco... Read more

I found NYPD on a web search and found my first class to be humbling and exciting. It is not as easy as it looks and I enjoyed the challenge it brought in the areas of strength, grace, & flexibility. During my time at NYPD I I spent over $1200 in a 4 month period on classes and apparel. As my skill level progressed I became increasingly frustrated with class structure & policy. Specifically, I did not enjoy having to share poles. Yes, many classes are offered throughout the day so it is possible to book during less busy classes, but I work a 9-5 job & found weekend classes & classes offered after 6pm to be very crowded. When spending $40 for a 1 hour class, I do not expect to be sitting on the floor waiting for my turn for half of it. I also felt that mixing beginner Climb & Spin students with more advanced Climb & Spin students decreased the overall enjoyment of the class. Though the instructors would modify certain moves for more advanced students, most of their individual atten... Read more

I've invested over a thousand dollars for classes at NYPD over the past year (yep, it's that expensive.) I did it because I loved the workouts and I found some of the instructors to be fabulous. Unfortunately I have come to find out that my money would have went a lot further at other competing studios that are just as good. I also found out that if you ever have a problem or a concern, and you have to have to contact Wendy the owner, you are in for a rude awakening. Here's a summary of things I have discovered over the recent past: 1. The price of the classes are expensive compared to their competitors. Most places charge $25. NYPD charges $40-50 (Google "pole dancing NY" and compare for yourself!) 2. If you get a package, be prepared for it to expire before you complete it. (30 classes in 30 days? Really? Who had that kind of time?) "But they have a new 'rollover' feature for some of their packages". Look closely, it only applies if you spend more money and buy another pac... Read more

I signed up for the USPDF workshop with Sarah Crutel for early October. I was super excited to be abled to work side by side with one of the most amazing competitive dancers. However, this was all shattered when I found out through Sarah herself at the PoleSuperstar comp that the workshops were in fact in VA not NY!!! Why was this not mentioned when I signed up?!?! I've been trying to get a refund for a month, emailing and calling with no responses. This is unprofessional, and NYPD will never get my business again. It's a shame.

NY Pole Dancing is my favorite way to vary up my workout schedule while having an amazing time. The instructors are all really passionate about what they do and it's completely contagious. More than regular exercise, pole dancing (at least at this studio) requires you to get out of your head and into your body. What ever shape you're in, you're encouraged to find your inner temptress and let her out. The workouts definitely challenge me physically, although they're set up so that even in the first class everyone can do something on the pole by the end of the day. Now after a few months, I feel like I'm flying up there. Yes, there may be cheaper pole classes somewhere in the city, but you get what you pay for. Here they have smaller classes, individual attention and a great atmosphere!!!

Who knew that after having two kids back to back and NOT feeling the same confidence as before children, I'd be able to find a way of working out that feels good. It makes me feel seductive and leaves me wanting more! All the instructors have made me feel good about moving, showing me how to move and how to loosen up these tight hips. I love pole dancing - my husband loves me pole dancing, so much that he bought a pole for our bedroom! Yay!

I have been a student of NYPD for about a year and have seen an enormous change in my upper body strength and core strength. Each class makes you realize just how much you can do with your body when you put it to the test. All of the instructors supply a lot of encouragement and take the time to help you get a move done right. Each of the instructors has a different style to cater to all audiences, I love all of them. If you want to catch them live contact the studio for one of their free performances, I never miss them! I am always looking forward to my next class and hope to install a pole and giant mirror in my apartment someday soon so that I can practice and release my inner s ex kitten.

New York Pole Dancing is a great place to learn how to let go and be yourself. I have been going to New York Pole Dancing consistently for a year and to this day I feel that it is the best and most fulfilling work out I?ve had in my entire life. Pole dancing is addictive and I find myself coming back again and again. Part of the reason for that are the instructors, they are professional, easy going, and fun to work with. It is a rewarding experience, I recommend everyone experience New York Pole Dancing at least once, it is totally worth it!!! I never thought I would have achieved this level of fitness. My strength has improved so much and it is just a great workout that is so much fun.

When I first began taking classes at New York Pole Dancing, one could say I was curious to know what all the hype was about. I grew up dancing and really enjoyed working out. It seemed like it'd be fun enough to take one class but didn't really think it'd offer the "amazing workout" that the celebs in Hollywood were claiming it would be. Although slightly intimidated, I was also intrigued by the idea of pretending to be a stripper for an hour at the very least. After the first class I took, I realized, though, that Wendy was serious about this endeavor as part of a fitness regimen, not about turning me into a stripper! It only took one spin around the pole for me to realize how much I was working my arms and Wendy made both my friend that'd I'd brought in with me and me feel totally comfortable too. That was over two years ago. I'm not only still studying this beautiful athletic art of Pole Dancing at NYPD but I'm also now teaching it. Wendy still continues to push me to be my ... Read more

I just had a birthday party here, and it was the best party I've ever had. The instructors were very professional, and made the moves easy. The room was the perfect size for my entire group and everyone had ample time to "swing away" on the poles. I always read reviews before I try something out, and trust me, New York Pole Dancing will not be a disappointment . My friends and I are planning to return. Just be prepared to work muscles you haven't worked in a while, and wake up a bit sore in the morning.

This place was out 2nd attempt to get a good pole dancing workout. Exotic Dance Central left a really bad taste in our mouths but we kicked it back and went to New York Pole Dancing to try it out. and what a difference!!! The teacher alone was unbelievable. She danced amazing. It was awesome. A very professional experinece and all the girls had a really great time and a reat workout. I felt like I had learn far more than what I had expected to. There are other classes in the city at various gyms that we have found and will explore but so far out of the two this one is the best.

Owner/instructor, Wendy, has one of the fittest bodies you will ever see and her pole tricks are fierce! The studio is clean and beautiful with a great view of the city. Although Wendy is very serious about her instruction and carefully guides you through the learning process, the atmosphere is relaxed and fun. I have been working out a long time, but through these classes, my strength has improved and my abs have never looked better. A great workout that is so much fun!!
