Nathaniel Hawthorne

I get it. Many people consider Hawthorne to be one of the great American authors. However, his writing style is long, drawn out and wastes countless pages on inane details. The House of Seven Gables is probably the worst book that I've made myself finish. I'm not saying it is the worst book of all time, or even the worst book I've started reading, just the worst I've been able to push through. At one point he spends close to 20 pages just describing how Phoebe wants to rearrange the furniture in her room. There might actually be an OK story in there somewhere if he would have just cut out the extraneous details.
