This is a pretty impressive piece of architecture. I'm not a big fan of organized religions or cults either, but this is about the building, not the Latter Day Saints themselves. I also find it interesting that several reviewers commenting here, who on other lists profess their tolerance and understanding and utter lack of prejudice, display so much prejudice here. Pots calling kettles grimy-arse if I ever saw it.

It is a different style. It's too bad that we can't get in to see the inside. I found that disappointing for a place of worship.Maybe tax exemptions should only be given to religious institutions that welcome everyone! If the public can't enter, then it is not a place of worship entitled to exemption.

There are a million different stories surrounding the life of Joseph Smith. As a young man I grew up going to church hearing one thing about my church then going to school or out in public hearing another. It was with these mixed emotions that I went to my bishop with, and he gave me the greatest advice of all. Stick to the basics. So that’s what I did, everything else fell into place. I have love for my fellow man; I love my wife and kid, and try every day to do the best I can. Can someone anyone tell me how a foundation like that could be made in a church that is violent and cruel. It can’t. Now for all those people who think they know exactly what ole Joe Smith was really like let me ask you to put yourself in the shoes of a 14 year old boy who knew without a doubt that he was called of god to perform a great task. He knew it would be hard and he knew he could not do it alone. Through his life he gained the support of many people while also gaining many enemies. This man was falsely... Read more

Maybe when they stop spending millions of dollars on temples and shopping malls and resort hotels and start publically releasing simple things like a fiscal report and detailed membership breakdown I'll give the LDS directors some credibility.

I loved reading all the comments from all these people who live Christ like lives. I wonder why Jesus Christ himself was never so rude to all the people around him. A lot of those people that left feedback, contradicted themselves.

I would just like to clear a few things up. First of all, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (as that is the real name) is a ligitamite Christian religion that does countless good things around the world. The temple is a wonderful place where families are sealed for eternity and the feeling is wonderful. If you have questions, please I beg of you, do not rant ignorant opinions, go to lds.org and you will find answers, if not tolerance. And all those who say the church is intolerant, take a look at your own reviews. Just a thought.

Having lived in the world for over 1/2 of my life I have experienced the highs and lows of society. I have committed every crime outside of murder and sunk to the depths of hell. I have found full refuge as a menber of the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latterday Saints, and testify to all who read this that it is the kingdom of God here on earth. My life is fuller and never have I experienced such joy as I have now. To those who would say Bull, I say that it is your own unrighteous activities that stop you from seeing the errors of your ways. Satan closed the eyes of all who would turn from pure Gospel principles. You tend to forget what the truth really is and become sons & daughters of him who was cast out of Heaven for rebellion. satan has become your leader, but there is still time for you to change. There is no greater joy in all the world that I have experienced than that of the temple, and the blessings that are there for those who are willing to forsake sin and follow the Sav... Read more

It is a very unique and beautiful building. The lights during the Christmas season are spectacular and during the spring the flower gardens are remarkable. There are missionaries that may greet you walking through the gate, and it is your choice to talk to them or not, but they are friendly.

I used to be mormon, I was mormon for the first half of my life, and I can say with knowledge of the REAL truth of jesus christ, that this isnt truth at all. My heart breaks for all mormons who are trapped by this great deception. I went to church for years, and it just never sat right with my spirit, something was wrong... I later started checking out another church, a non denominational one, and i fould that it was so much more full of life, something was different, it wasnt the building, it wasnt the people themselves... but GOD was there, and the TRUE jesus christ, the one who died on the cross to pay for ALL mankinds sins, and rose on the 3rd day to sit at the right hand of god, The mormon temple in salt lake city reminds me of darkness, and i cannot look uppon it without my spirit litterally feeling sickI pray desperately for mormons that they would be able to come out of this amazing elabrate deception, and come to know the TRUE jesus christ, ONE god, not thousands. the one god ... I pass by the temple almost every day. It is one of the most beautiful structures on this planet. It is a testament to Christ and the faith that many have had in him. An apologetic corollary for all the hate-mongering and/or blind followers of all things (or even a few things) anti-Mormon. Please take note that I appreciate the common sense that is in some of these statements that acknowledge the bitterness and unreasonableness of so many of our opponents. It's so sad when one takes every opportunity to trash someone else's faith even to the point of placing a non-sequitor statement out of the blue and out of place (You trash it out of turn I'll respond out of turn). So many here reject the beauty of this magnificent structure out of hand for no reason other than to support a dogmatic bias that every contact they ever have with a Mormon becomes to there mind a self fulfilling prophesy of what are largely false notions of what Mormonism really stands for. We have never believed anyone... Read more

UPDATE: I never really thought about it before, but after reading Irishgit's review of the Mormon Temple, he is sooooooo right. There are so many on here who profess tolerance, etc but yet shamelessly crucify mormons with their words. It is pure hypocrisy. Thank you for bringing that to light Git. OLD REVIEW: You can just feel the love of God going thru you when you walk thru Temple Square, it is totally awesome. This is just a holy, sacred place. Non-mormons are not allowed into the actual temple, only temple recommended mormons are. When you go thru the temple rituals, you just feel so clean and awesome. It is so hard to explain. All I can say is that this is definately God's house...and it should be respected as such.

For those of you out there. People are different. I am a Mormon Missionary. I am not Racist. Infact I am good friends with a number of African Americans, and Mexicans, Samoans as well. just to name a few. There are bad people wherever you go, but don't judge us all by one bad experience. many Baptist people don't like me, should I not like all baptists for that reason? No, I treat each person differently. If I meet you on the street I would ask you how you were doing. I am me. not anyone else. Don't judge me because of anyone else.

Well, I will add a rating, though I am one of perhaps three people on this list who have actually been to it. On a secular note, it is a beautifully built structure. A testament to pioneer determination. On a spiritual note it is even more beautiful and impressive. It never ceases to amaze me, however, how the same tired, old attacks on the mormon church continue to circulate after they have been proven false. For a bunch of people who claim Mormons follow blindly, you sheep will believe anything you read or hear against the Mormons. Sad, and pathetic.

God, This place is scary. The architectural structure is nicely done, but it is what Castlebee says. It's a monument to a cult. And Mormons are not accepting of anyone who is not a non-mormon. When I went to this place, They looked disgusted with my presence. They were so rude I wanted to slap them. Why continue to go to a faith that has rejected you? It promotes killing. It encourages racism. I don't agree with Christianity's teachings either. I've heard it come straight from their mouths! I've been to a Mormon church. I was attending my Mormon friend's wedding. I listened to their teachings, I listened to the people. I was appalled at what things they spewed. Sentences such as "We ought to burn Witches again. Wiccans are so annoying. I'd like to stab one in the head." or "Black people smell." Loving religion? Sounds more like a crazy cult! Overall, Don't go to this place. But this doesn't mean that I'm prejudiced against Mormons because I'm not. In Junior High, two of my best fri... Read more

This is the greatest thing on earth. Its to bad alot of people hate morality. But what can i say. People will be people. When the best of the best spiritually of people will do there best to get in one of these awesome temples they will know the beauty until than its awful. I feel bad for the rest of you. You are all missing out. On the best thing for your soul. To be in the temple and know I am closer to God because of it. Is the best thing. Mormons are awesome. Non-Mormons are great too. They just need to know that they are important to. Spiritual wealth is for everyone. God wants every person to be with him again. So basically if you dont like the mormon temple you dont like God and what he represents. Subtle craftiness of talk will never subdue the greatest power on the earth. That is Rightousness. Black people are just as important in our church as white. In 1978 God felt it was important to have Blacks have the priesthood. Hey its Gods decision. Even I a mormon dont know why blac... I am so sorry for doing this, but I cannot support what the Mormon church teaches therefore I cannot go to this monument because I consider it an evil place. Yes, the Architectural structure is quite nice, but I could not go in because I could not support the teachings behind the Mormon Church. I am sorry to all the Mormon People if I have offended you.

This architecture is nice and all....but there are some facts that highly disturb me about the man who created this plHe was an alcoholic. He was a con man, because he earned a living by charging local farmers to help locate buried treasure. He found treasure using folk magic and 'seer stones.' He was tried on a charge of money digging (1826). He had another heavenly visitation, in which the angel, Moroni told him, of a sacred history written by ancient Hebrews in America (1823). This history was engraved in an Egyptian dialect on tablets of gold and buried in a nearby hill. It was the history of the ancient peoples of America and he would be the instrument to bring this knowledge to the world. He obtained those gold plates from the angel (1827). He was able to translate them into English using the spirit of God and the sacred instrument accompanying the plates called the 'Urim and Thummim.' The translation was published as The Book of Mormon (1830). It took God seven days (one day for... Read more

Mormonism.....Do I even have to go there? I'm sorry, but yesterday, My mom's friend was at a nice festival. A bunch of Mormons were going around handing out pamphlets. But the thing was, They DIDN'T pay like the other people. They threatened the girl at the desk. Also, I read an Mormon advice column. Mormons believe in killing wiccans, satanists, and muslims. THIS IS NOT RIGHT! Mormons believe in violence to obtain their goals. I've seen Mormons literally beat the crap out of a girl for being wiccan.

I have nothing against Mormons. I just don't like this place. It's not for me. No one wanted me there because I was Catholic. Well, I didn't care cause I'm a person and I've got a right to even walk into a Satanist Church if I please. I wouldn't because that would be disrespecting the people's beliefs.

Wow, the comments here are heated, huh? I rated it a 1 because of my experience with Mormons who were very self-righteous and condescending. I was raised United Methodist, which is a socially aware and globally-minded denomination. I was always taught to respect other people's beliefs and cultures. This is not the case with LDS. The honest ones (and yes, there are many) will tell you as much. Their philosophy is that they are the only ones on the right path. When all the churches in my community formed an inter-faith coucil to pool our efforts for our teen groups, the only denominations who DIDN'T participate were the Kingdom Hall and the LDS. We later learned they did NOT want their kids socializing with ones who didn't follow the Book Of Mormon. Homophobia and racism are also their not-so-well-hidden secrets. I can't deal with that kind of thinking. They believe in levels of heaven. I once asked a Mormon missionary if they believed they would attain a higher place in heaven ... Read more

My high school was run by Mormons. By this I mean that everyone in a position of authority was a Mormon. Over time I saw that I was being punished more severly than the Mormon kids and the gay students were treated even worse. The Mormons that I have met were arrogant, inconsiderate, rude and disrespectful to Non-Mormons(with the exception of one or two).

Wow...I spent two years on a mission and thought I had heard it all...it never ceases never ceases to amaze me how those who are the most uneducated are always seem to be the most opinionate. I am a mormon who grew up in the Bible Belt in Oklahoma man you better believe tht I got it ALL THE TIME from the bible thumbers out there. But I don't consider myself an expert on the Southern Baptists just becuase I spent 17 years in a predominantly baptist community. My dad was constently harrassed at the college he taught at because he was mormon but that automatically make the Baptists a cult does it? And now I live in Arizona where one of the big wigs in the Catholic church here is in hot water for covering up child molestation. And have you seen any one of the Catholic cathedrals in Europe...wow...what are those monuments to? Are Catholics now a cult too? And CARRIEANN...my wife is BLACK! I dont consider her inferior. She wouldn't let me. But alas i realize that no matter what you say some ... Read more

I am reading these comments. I must agree with CastleBee, LadyShark, Evilbitch, and Becky S. I am sorry, but I lived in a Mormon town for 36 years of my life. While the religion seems to be peaceful, I then realized it was not a "religion". It was a cult. So many facts and distubing things we cannot ignore. Let me tell you something, Mr. Kolby, Sir. I don't believe in religion. I think it seperates people and promotes hatred. If the Mormons are so loving, Why do they believe black people are inferior? I have had actual expierience with Mormon life. If you are a woman, You have no rights. The Bishop owns you literally. I watched a girl be slapped for smoking. In the Mormon religion, You can't drink coffee or alcohol. Or you will be excommunicated from the church. I was beaten up by a group of Mormons for dating a black man. I was only 16 years old and I had no clue why they were slapping me. I recall a Mormon preacher making people acutally pay to get in the church. If you are a Mormon... Read more
