Kind of Blue is more than Mile Davis' defining moment; it was a new rudder on an old boat. Miles didn't care about the state-of-the-union of Jazz. I dont think we will ever know, but the debate will go on forever. What it is, is not only a testament to power of improvisation, but also a prophetic look into the soul of a very troubled mana man who was able to turn his pain into pure, harmonic sweetness. The man can play.  I prefer Gillespie, but Davis is astonishing.  Buy "Bitches Brew" if nothing else...

I'm not sure he's "the greatest".I also love Lee Morgan and Clifford Brown(for example),who "wrote the book on dying tragically before their time;but Miles is generally the first musician I think of when I think about jazz(even though I think he kinda sold out a little when he went into his fusion period)

Another unusual player who excelled in his craft. Defined the cool almost singlehandedly. A must listen for any jazz enthusiast.
