I have been to a concert here twice and had a lot of fun. The place doesn't look all that big but it can actually fit a huge crowd. This is also one of those spots that always has something going on, whether it be a concert, some band playing, a party, even movie screenings. Worth to check out..

Mezzanine can definetely and confidently boast that they have a great sound system! And seeing shows here is worth it due to that fact! There is an upstairs with couches and seating and a smoking area in the back. Mezzanine seems to always be crowded when I go and it can take a minute or two to get a drink. But the bartenders always seem to be on top of it! The one thing I don't like about this place is parking my car here or walking to my car later at night. There can be some interesting people lining the street at that time.

I am writing this review because of the negative comments from a few other reviewers. This is a cool and very expansive club that has lots of different events. San Fran is pretty lucky to have a place like this-- many places don't have anything like this--my crew was from ST. Louis and they loved it. We did a bottle service and it was a good time. The fact that the door guys are doing their job and keeping the crowd under control is what we want. Clubs don't need riff-raff. Not sure what these other guys did to get booted. You are at a nice club--act like it. So, I hope locals and visitors give this place a shot. But be sure to check the web to see what event they are having. You never know what type of event or music may be there.

The best part about the mezzanine is that it has all the bands that you want to hear that aren't playing anywhere else in northern California, and that's it. They sell too many tickets which makes the security eager to put people out on the street. The stage, which is far too small for the size of the venue is smushed into the far corner of the floor and is set too low for anyone farther back than the first 5 rows (or not watching from the distant balcony) to actually see anything. Drinks are expensive for what you get, but the low cost tickets offset that. After all is said, all I really want is a decent view of my band and some elbow room. I would not recommend this venue unless you know your band will not sell the place out or they are not playing any other venues in norCal.

I've been going here for years and until last week had a very high opinion of the club. They must have gotten three times as many security guards and they have them patrol the entire club. They shined a flashlight in my eyes three times during the night because my eyes were closed. I've never had this happen before at any club and really hope they change back to leaving people alone. They also harassed a guy because he fell asleep on the couch. They told him to 'get a hotel, get up and walk around or go home'. This man paid money to be in the club until it closed. There is nothing on the ticket that says you must stay awake. I'm sad that they've taken a turn for the worse. Maybe they'll come around once they notice a drop in attendance.

The Mezzanine is the kind of club that appears to have it all. Lots of space, the sound is excellent throughout it & plenty of different kind places to rest between its many bars. However, the security often do a terrible job and rather than helping to alleviate problems of people of people overcrowding one part of the club. They often instead simply accost some poor patron caught in the crush of a crowd! Hsving said that, if the at least part of the security staff was replaced with some actual trained professionals then the Mezzanine would truly be the best place to go to a club in San Francisco.

The space merges warehouse minimalism with sophisticated technology. Inside, clubgoers find a cavernous main room, an elevated stage that hosts DJs and live bands, and plush mezzanine lounges, including a glassed-in room. Up to a thousand partygoers can fill the space, boogying the night away on the cushioned dance floor, sprawling out on upholstered benches and ottomans in one of the loft-like upstairs lounges and taking drink breaks at one of the five full-service bars. The upstairs VIP lounge features dressing rooms and bottle service for the big-spender crowd, while another sports soundproofed walls and a separate DJ, so revelers can party far from the crowds below. But it's not just all dancing, all the time: The owners have added fashion shows and multimedia art events to the calendar.

was at mezzanine last night - the place is full of beautiful men&women. fun scene - not super yuppy, not super grungy. liked it! esp since im used to the yuppy scene. some people were too big headed for their own good, but that is cali, right? you'll have fun. might have trouble getting in.

Mezzanine does it all...I have seen art shows, huge live and DJ shows as well as smaller local bands there. It has a cool -warehouse in the south of market- feel complimented by it's industrial look. Their staff is very pro-active and hands on, giving it a family vibe. The first time I was there was a couple of years ago for Squarepusher, which was an awesome show with amazing sound, it was nuts...and the last time I was there was 2 weeks ago for Mos Def, which for those of you who weren't there?? the show was one of the best I've seen, and the security manager remembered me from the Squarepusher show and bought me a drink...family vibe in tact and still full on. I had my drink standing next to Warren Sapp of the Raiders....what more can I say. Mezzanine is like that.

Mezzanine is one of my favorite music venues in San Francisco. Whether it?s a punk rock show or a hip-hop show, I can catch a diverse array of performances at the venue. The club?s sleek design, allows for ample room, even at sold-out shows. I like to watch bands from the upstairs mezzanine areas, although those get filled up quickly. I recently went to the Knife?s sold-out show and was impressed with the visual effects. There were two sheer screens in front and behind the band, with a Blue Man Group type thing going on. I thought it was a one-time thing, but a few weeks later I caught Hot Chip there and they had this huge neon lighting thing on stage. Mezzanine keeps impressing me more and more with each concert. And I can?t wait until the next.

Though it's hidden in an alley of the SoMa district, this club will be a household name very soon. Not only is it chic and VERY East Coast place in a very West Coast city, it's also very intimate and comfortable. Great for live music. Great for dancing. Great bar!!!

After hearing and reading about all the hype for this place, my friends and I decided to try it out for ourselves. We went on a Friday night around 11pm and arrived to a practically EMPTY club. The space was amazing but it was definitely a turn-off to have practically no one there. With the live DJs and particular crowd that was there that night, the club definitely had a Euro-feel. We hung out for a bit and decided to leave but came back a few hours later to only a slightly better showing. Case in point: The space is awesome so to enjoy it properly, make sure you go on a night that you KNOW something good is happening. I would go back to try it again...on a better night!

First visit to Mezzanine the other night. I was impressed. The sound system there is a knockout. DJs were awesome. Service good. It has a warehouse feel, but more charm than that without looking like its trying to hard. Nice trick. The only negative to Mezzanine is that it draws several "professional clubber" types - you know who I'm talking about. The type that acts like they are better than you and have a right to prime dance floor real estate because they have been to all the world's "best clubs and have seen the best DJs." They are so into the "subversive club scene" that they are the mainstream. I heard some dude say something like "Whoa, this club is so alive, I am flashing back to when DJ Vladimir dropped the beats at Le Loco in Paris in the July of '99. That changed my life." Barf.

I've only gone to Mezzanine when I have gotten an email from a promotor about a special event so in answer to one of the reviewers, it might just be that you gotta know when to hit this club. I had a great time both times I went. the place is nice and clean (a big deal compared to some places here) and there's plenty of places to sit and chill out. Really like the decor. The bouncer who looks like Sting is real friendly too. Actually they were all really nice (more than I can say for bouncers at other clubs too)

Great venue for both DJ's and live shows. Chemical Brothers visit to this venue was unbelievable. (by far the most memorable show I've been to in SF). Staff is extremely friendly...no "hipper-than thou" attitudes. Most nights I've gone, there seems to be a healthy straight/gay mix. One warning: consider bringing a pair of back-up ear plugs...their sound system definitely shows its full potential after midnight.

Visiting fom L.A., planned on a weekend of clubin', found Mezzanine on Friday night and came back Saturday, didn't want to leave. Great friendly vibe, hoppin' danceable mix with great sound. Ultra lounge area was cool to hang out in when I wasn't on the dancefloor. This is absolutley the most happening club I've ever visited in S.F.. I'll be coming back for more, often.
