Sun Jan 02 2011They charged money when they shouldn't have, said they would have supervisers call back within 24 hrs and they didnt, and the service sucks. Nobody ever has answers there, and they have caused more than one frustrating messes for me and my girlfriend. WOULDN'T RECOMMEND TO MY ENEMIES!

Fri Dec 31 2010Crappy customer service. They are the other partys car insurance company that I have been dealing and it has been everything but pleasure. Hard to get in touch with, do not call back, mailed out a check to a wrong address and when asked to resend it to the right address, he said that maybe the mailman might find my mailbox somehow, and the list goes on. I just can't wait for my repair to be over with. Metlife needs to hire competent people to hire competent people. Or is it simply too much to ask for?

Wed Aug 25 2010Absolutely horrible company. The customer service is bad. I've been in accident and after giving them all information it took too long for them to give compensation for my car damage. The customer service reps are extremely rude. After talking to one of them on the phone I've almost had a heart attack. It's unbelievable. I will never do business with them. AVOID THIS COMPANY!!!!

Wed Aug 18 2010MetLife is good...until you get into an accident. I was in a small wreck a few months ago. The other person involved in the accident (who was uninsured by the way), called to make a claim the minute we left the scene, which is fine, however you would think Geico would care to listen to both sides of the story before immediantly accusing their insured customer of being at fault (it was not). Immediantly after contact between the two cars we pulled over. I, being naive, gave the other driver all of my insurance information trusting that it would be handled properly, even though the other person involved did not show proof (because she did not have any). I called 911 to see if we could get a policeman involved for a report but they would not send anyone "Unless someone was injured and needed an ambulance." I asked the other driver if this was the case, she said, "No", and we went on our ways. When I called Metlife the agent in charge of my claim was hard to get a hold of. When I finally d... Read more

Fri Aug 06 2010worst company - said they will not back what their sales people commit too - we are suing them for not covering what we were committed too - contractors all said it should be covered. run to another firm. You can not believe what their sales folks tell you since the company will not stand behind their sales staff.

Thu Aug 05 2010Metlife made me lose a LOT of money. I would have received about $------- with an immediate annuity that I had; counselor suggested a Metlife IRA and it will run out in a few years. So depending on how long I live, I could potentially lose thousands.

Tue Jun 29 2010Horrible customer service...claims took months to reimburse us and we are still waiting. No help whether done online or while trying to navigate their automatic phone service (you'll never talk to a human). Do not purchase this unless you plan on never using the service.

Thu May 13 2010From an insured person's perspective, the easiest decision that he or she has to do regarding his or her insurance contract is to choose it. In choosing an insurance contract, one only has to exert some effort in studying and analyzing different insurance quotes. The hard part though is paying the premium. The premium is the amount paid by an insured for the continuous coverage and effectivity of its insurance contract. It can be likened to a rent, which is paid by the lessee to the lessor to make sure that the contract of lease is still effective. There are certain cases where an insured is not able to faithfully comply with his or her payment obligations regarding the premium. This usually results to the cancellation of insurance contracts. Such an event is frowned upon considering the significance of having an insurance contract. An insurance company called MetLife Insurance is known for its different insurance offers that are more lenient when it comes to premium payments. It has d... Read more

Tue Sep 15 2009I wish there was a lower rating than terrible, because they would deserve it. I first got Met Life insurance when I got my license, because it was easy for my mother to just add me to her policy. After 5 years of dealing with their horrible customer service (long hold times, uneducated and RUDE reps, etc) insanely high premiums (my rates went up after an accident that was entirely not my fault, I was rear-ended), and general incompetence, I received a notice last week saying that my policy had been canceled TWO WEEKS EARLIER due to non-payment. I had set up for them to deduct payments automatically from my checking account and they claimed that a payment had been rejected due to insufficient funds, although my bank statement shows no record of any attempted withdrawl. Not to mention they are required by law to send me advance warning that my policy will be canceled by X date if I do not pay X amount. Never got that notice, the only notification I received was a bill saying that I owed ... Read more

Mon Aug 17 2009I had Metlife through an employer group auto insurance just for the ease. I can conclude that without ever having an accident or claim, Metlife is still a terrible company due to terrible customer service. After I left my employment, i compared my experience speaking (or attempting to speak to) representatives on the phone between the two auto insurance companies. I had no problems with my new company, but I would spend 45 minutes of my time on the phone with automated options before being "transferred" to customer service. Once transferred, i would get a message saying customer service is closed for the day, and that I should call again during opening hours of 9am to 6pm EST, even though I called at 2pm EST. After finally contacting a representative, they informed me that the various numbers I had been calling (the numbers that are listed on the mail i receive, policy papers, and the website) is the wrong number to call, and that I am supposed to call an unlisted number. I sincerely d... Read more

Fri Aug 14 2009Absolutely terrible. I have tried to cancel my homeowners insurance policy unsuccessfully three times. I continue to receive bills and late fees when I have had a new insurance provider for the last year. The reps are rude and not helpful. Horrible experience.

Sun Jul 12 2009Absolutely catastrophic. My father died in a terrible accident during Christmas. Metlife received all of the information it needed to process our claim within days. We turned in all of the documentation within the next 3 weeks because we need the money to help with the funeral and travels costs. It has now been 8 months!!! They are claiming they need to initiate an investigation into whether or not his death was accidental even though we've given them all necessary paper work AND the death certificate states Accidental Death. They will not give us a consistent rep. to speak with. This means we need to engage a different receptionist with the issue with EVERY phone call. They will also not allow you to speak with the person actually working on your claim. On top of that they have been rude, unclear and slow to respond. Needless to say, we will be initiatie a suit in the near future if they don't tell us what they need to process this claim soon. DO NOT trust Metlife.

Fri Apr 10 2009I've had Met for over 13 years and have been very satisfied. Their rates are a little higher than some but for the most part you get what you pay for. I've been in 2 accidents in that time (both the other drivers fault) and Met was very helpful in walking me through the process even though I didn't claim through them in the end (I opened a claim with them both times as they suggested but closed it when the other insurance company agreed to pay for all the damages and car rental and such). The one time I had significant hail damage on my wife's car the adjuster came out and was very prompt and thorough. He found several spots that I'd missed. As I said in the beginning I've been satisfied with them overall and would recommend them to others.

Thu Mar 13 2008I've never had an accident in my life, almost 40 years of driving. I was recently involved in an at-fault accident which I'm questioning because the judge immediately dismissed it before I could plead either way. The total damage was 2,900. The Metlife representative said ANY at-fault case is automatically raised 25% irrespective of the amount, whether its 5.00 or 100,000 dollars. I would see my rates go up by that amount upon renewal. I don't know how these places work but I've more than paid double in premiums so far.

Fri Jan 19 2007My wife and I have been with them for over 6 years with both our Home and Auto Insurance. Neither of us has had a speeding ticket, accident, house fire, etc. We never had one claim with them until my wife's car was totaled after being hit from behind one rainy morning. The responsible party was given 4 different tickets for the accident. Luckily my wife and 4 year old daughter were not injured. The person who hit my wife had Allstate insurance which we decided to use to avoid dealing with Met Life and paying a deductible. Allstate's estimate of our car was a few thousand off what I was anticipating so my wife and I decided that to go through Met Life. Surely our own insurance company would be on our side and give us a fair estimate - WRONG!!! They estimated our car to be a thousand dollars less than Allstate said it was. I had done a little research to see what the average car value was and when I explained this to them AND THEN PROVIDED PROOF, they only tried to prove they ... Read more

Mon Nov 29 2004They were in contention for the Malcolm Baldridge award in the mid 1990's when their investigation hit the fan and they quietly withdrew their application. Charles Schultz and Snoopy assisted their profile greatly in the 1970's, proving that a solid marketing campaign can trump the quality of product nearly every time.
