They're in the business for such a long time, and inspired so many people (and still do). They just deserve it.

Metallica are without a doubt the greatest thrash metal band ever. They have also done some really good music after their thrash period. They have great songs, like "Whiskey In A Jar", "One", "Master Of Puppets", "Enter Sandman", "Fade To Black" and a lot more.

One of the best heavy metal band ever...behind Sabbath and Priest.  Should be in when they become eligible, without a doubt.

I really do not like about 96% of their music. and I think they are complete greedy bastards. But what I think of them doesnt matter. They actually made real metal in the 80's and you can't deny the impact and influence they had, and probably will forever have on the genre. Deserving. But Iggy and the Stooges first! Damn.

Absolutely deserve it, and should have an easier time getting in with Van Halen and Black Sabbath in already. They were THE metal band of the late 80's and early 90's, and were one of the biggest crossovers. Although some will say they "sold out" (which is not true), that has no effect on their candidacy.

Metallica help bring back the true sound of what heavy metal was in Europe. When heavy metal was forming here in America, bands created a different sound. Though Metallica does not provide that dark, industrial sound like Black Sabbath did during their reign, but Metallica really produced a sound that none of the other American bands provided.

Metallica is without a doubt the founding fathers of metal, while all the other metal bands went the way of glam Metallica stayed true to what metal was and is all about. Their music has true meaning and covers alot of topics that real people endure in life.

hmmm, lets see. They are still making great music. They took on Napster. They had the guts to film themselves talking to shrink and show it to the world.

After Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath, Metallica might be the biggest name in Heavy Metal. They are definitely worthy of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Stuck to their guns for over 20 years. Survived the grung holocaust of the early 90's, which killed almost every hair band in its path. Platinum is their only color. Let enter the Sandmen.

Metallica have been my heros and lifes inspiration for well over 20 years. There has not been a day since I can remember that I have not listened to them. A few bands have taken my interest away but not for long. I have never been disappointed in anything they have done. I appreciate their music for what it is, music. I don't slam any of their newer work because it's not metal. I praise it because it's music, good music, from the band Metallica

If Black Sabbath are finally getting their nod into the Hall of Fame, than it will be a shoe in when this group is elligible. In fact, Metallica is pretty much the most influencial band in the hard rock world since Black Sabbath. Most hard rock fans will have at least three of the band's first five albums in their collection (the die hards will have them all!). With the addition of their new and known bassist, Robert Trujillo, their influence on musicins and music fans does not seem to be dwindling anytime soon.

A shame that this group is best known for its "Black" album, when those of us who know better realized that they reached their creative-apex with, "And Justice for All" ( which is one of the better "concept albums" ever churned-out by a metal band ). "Black" was a decent enough album but it was pre-cursor to their obvious decline. That's when they "cleaned up their acts" and became a full-polished package, nothing more than another "revenue generator" for their label ( commonly referred to as "selling out" ). Mass-produced, easily digestable, McRock music with no cereberal qualities became the Rule of the Day. But this type of behavior is quite prevelent among most of The Halls indutees, so they can't be dismissed for this reason. Because like most of the inductees, it is their early stuff which lend them their creedence. Albums like: "Kill 'em All", "Ride the Lightning", "Master of Puppets" and "Justice for All" were top-notch works, especially for a genre that garners very little res... Read more

They are in the 'grumpy old men' stage of their career, but this band had two albums that put heavy metal on the billboard charts for a long time. They had talent and staying power- although they are somewhat irritating, one cannot deny their impact. They legitimized a form of rock for the masses without sacrificing their artistic integrity. . .a rare accomplishment indeed. . .

Metallica has learned countless things about each other. When Cliff joined the band, they learned about complex music theory. Kirk then went on the learn from some of the greatest guitar players ever to better himself. That is what Metallica is all about ever improving and changing to bring their fans a great musical experience with every album and every tour.

Metallica are one of the most influentual hevey metal abnds ever. I myself have been a fan of metallica ever since justice for all was released. Theor first video "ONE" spooked the hell out of me. I remember rushing down the street to gfeta copy fo teh baclk album when it came out in 1991 & i cheered with a smile when metallica won a grammy for best metal vocal performance since they have inducted black sabbath its time to start inducting heavy metal bands. all you metallica fans. sign the metallica 4 rock hall petition http://new.petitiononline.com/4711563/petition-sign.html?
