Mon Aug 11 2008she is okay. not really stands out but not awful. I liked her in Crazy in Alabama. she played a wife and mother who killed her brute of a husband after years of abuse and headed out to Las Angeles to try and be an actress with her husband's head in a hat box.{this movie was a comedy drama}

Mon Apr 28 2008UPDATE: You know, I don't ever remember seeing Nobody's Fool in the bijou. When Melanie lifted her sweatshirt and flashed those two world class bona fides for Paul Newman, she gained a whole new respect from me. I also added TWO stars! ORIGINAL COMMENT: Who says that peroxide doesn't cause brain damage?

Thu Dec 27 2007She has a real cute voice, she's better in light comedy or shows with tha guy from Perfect Stranger. She should do more TV comedy.

Fri Nov 10 2006Penwah - I did for one didn't love her in the utterly execrable Working Girl, one of a slew of dire films that came out in the 1980s glamourising the corporate world. I'm afraid you cannot overlook THAT voice. It's the vocal equivalent of having an intense itch in the middle of your back that you cant scrath.

Fri Nov 10 2006As is the case with most actors, male or female, Griffith has been a definite asset to the movies in which she has been cast under a competent director, working with intelligent scripts. From 'Night Moves' (under Arthur Penn, 1975) and 'The Drowning Pool' (Stuart Rosenberg, 1976) to 'Working Girl' (Mike Nichols, 1988) and 'Nobody´s Fool' (Robert Benton, 1994), Melanie Griffith has acquitted herself very creditably, enabling the directors to find in her characters the necessary nuances for the piece. Not a matter of personal choice, hardly anyone can be blamed regarding their voice, and yet listen to hers in the movies mentioned here (very particularly in her small but very creditable turn in 'Nobody´s Fool'). On the other hand, cosmetic choices, some successful, others less so, are quite common in vanity-driven industries.

Tue Apr 04 2006She seemed to have a promising career at one time. I'm not sure what happened. Prescription drugs perhaps? Anyway, she sort of lost whatever it was she had. It's a shame.

Tue Apr 04 2006Over-botoxed, untalented, inflated Barbie doll.

Sun Apr 02 2006Very pretty but other then that she does not bring much to the table and she doesn't have much of any range.

Sat Apr 01 2006Melanie is highly underrated, perhaps because of her baby voice, but she is a woman and an actress of substance, who has overcome adversity in her personal life and is now working to help others in need. Who didn't love her in Working Girl? And how brilliant was she in Shining Through? If you didn't see that one, do. It will change your opinion of her forever.

Fri Aug 05 2005The plastic surgery is a bit much, but it is also her choice. As for her personal life, bad things can happen to anyone. She had an addiction, and she went to rehab, and did something about the problem. I say good for her, it only shows that she is human. And for Antonio to stand by her like that, it also shows what a good relationship they have. They love each other, and he's a good guy for not calling it quits when In sickness and health came into question. Her acting is not bad either. She has made some very good role choices, and some not so great. Even when she's at her worst, she is still memorable.

Wed May 25 2005What producer did this brain-dead twit sleep with to get a job? Not only can't she act, that voice is just awful.

Fri May 13 2005Are all those lip injections really necessary? Too much plastic surgery. She was good in Working Girl but all downhill after that. Where is your mother on these boards? Now there's grace, talent, beauty and class.

Tue Mar 01 2005I get her and Meg Ryan confused. Are they both necessary? Seems to me one of them is more than enough. With so many talented people that never get a shot, how is it these blond airheads keep rising to the top? Ridiculous. I guess if you're blond and have connections that can overcome any lack of talent in Hollywood.

Fri Feb 18 2005Should have been cast in Titanic. Another 1000 people could have lived by hanging onto those lips.

Sun Dec 19 2004Awful. A true bimbo. She and Meg Tilly...Hard to believe they're actresses and could get work outside of playing a bimbo.

Mon Aug 30 2004Lights are on...nobody home....and very entertaining to watch for that very reason....every role is a comedy!

Sun Aug 01 2004I love Melanie & her films. She was nominated for an Academy Award for Working Girl because she was great in that movie. Her eyes were very expressive & she looked adorable (I find the baby voice & throat clearing endearing & real). She gives an excellent performance in all her films. Yes she played the hooker with a heart of gold in Milk Money, but she really gave that character her all. She also played a cop in A Stranger Among Us. She can do it all! Thriller/suspense (Pacific Heights), drama (Lolita), comedy (Two Much, Cecil B. Demented), & she appeared on Broadway in Chicago. Granted, she has gotten carried away with the plastic surgery, & she needs to stop! What was so appealing about her early on (Body Double, Something Wild, Working Girl) was that she was pretty with flaws & sexy without a gym bod. I will continue to watch & enjoy all the films she's in.

Tue Apr 13 2004One of the worst actresses of all time.
by guava_monkey
Fri Mar 05 2004Jeez, that voice. Almost as irritating as Goldie Hawn. Her only saving grace is that she hasn't made as many films. What she has done generally suck. No where near attractive enough to deserve 'love interest' or top billing. Major minus for the philosophically execrable 'Working Girl' the worst of the 1980s craze for 'me me me' films.

Thu Apr 03 2003She plays a ditzy blonde so well because it's her natural state.

Wed Apr 02 2003She's an ok actress and has done some good films. I like her mother better (where is Tippi on this board?)

Fri Jan 03 2003I think Melanie is ok as an actress & yes, she got pretty lucky landing a looker like Antonio...but she will not hold onto him by being a jealous maniac, trying to young again and inflating her lips so huge they probably cover his entire face & he's just too nice to say anything about it. She has had a pretty damn exciting & wild life and you gotta pay for all that with some wrinkles somewhere down the line. We should all be so lucky to have gotten our wrinkles from partying too hard all our lives and not from worrying about how to pay our bills and hold onto our ordinary average mates. Hell, if he did leave her she could get any boy toy she wanted anyway. Just stop w/ the gross lip growing. yuck!!

Mon Nov 18 2002Yuk! A skeezy tramp with a whinny voice. She always looks like she's trying to figure out which ear to stick her gum behind while chain-smoking. Every time I see her I wanna take 37 showers. :=8P

Sun Jun 24 2001Terrible actress. I find it very hard to take her seriously.

Thu Mar 15 2001First off do you people ever show compassion? One of the 20 worst actresses?? But other than that here's my review of Ms. Melanie. I've only seen a few of her movies and I will judge her on that plus her personal life. First, "Working Girl" was pretty decent and she gets points for that. Although she played a hooker in "Milk Money", she still was the high point of this moderately bittersweet funny film. She does get points taken off for her not cool flop "Crazy in Alabama." Now the fun part, her personal life. She gets more points taken off for her rehab incident but after seeing a wave of famous actor/actress breakups, she does get points for still staying with hubby Antonio Banderas.

Tue Jan 02 2001I liked her in Body Double & Something Wild. She's not so bad, but she's no Kathy Bates either.

Thu Dec 21 2000She deserves more than that. She's a good actress.

Wed Nov 29 2000Melanie Griffith doesn't have a great resume at all. We can start back in the 80's with the first movie I remember her in, 'Working Girl'. Then she got married to Don Johnson. They were cute and they co-starred in 'Paridise' which was a very sad movie. Their marriage ended. Then she moves on to trashy rolls in 'Milk Money', 'Another Day in Paridise' and 'Alabama'. She is continually playing a whiny woman. It may just be her voice that gives me that impression or it could be that she just can't play any other roles.

Wed Nov 29 2000I was so NOT surprised to hear that she is in Rehab. She has been acting loopy for years. And what is up with those lips? It looks like she had a small rodent shot into her upper lip. Just say No to collagen Mel. Her acting is also pretty lame. She thrives on the trashy girl who has a really big heart and is really sweet and cutesy and wants so badly to be good. Argh, she annoys me!

Wed Nov 29 2000I think she really is a good actress and has done some good work in a few films, the voice is right on the borderline (a bit too whiney for me); wasn't totally surprised to see her into rehab.
