I suppose that JJ ought to be put into a different category. Looking back into my memory, this song came out at the end of the 1960's and then Janis "bought the farm" in about 1970. She really didn't have enough time to develope another hit.

I know I'm repeating several comments already made, but I don't think Janis Joplin could be considered a one-hit wonder by any definition of the term. She was virtually a house-hold name in her day and would rate pretty high on anyone's list of all-time great classic rock artists. This may have been her only significant charting single but by the same standard, Bob Dylan only ever had one significant hit single "Like a Rolling Stone", which went to number 2, neither are one-hit wonders. There is no way Janis Joplin should on the same list as Flock of Seagulls and Starland Vocal Band who were hiccups of history with their sole hits.

Oh, please! I never liked her style - but give me a break! She does not deserve to be on this list of light weights. She was a force, an original and well remembered by her fans to this day.

i think she was great with a unique voice and i think she doesnt deserve to be called a 1 hit wonder . she didnt just fade away never to remember she in fact made a great impression on many be it good or bad.

As another comment noted, Me And Bobby McGee became a hit posthumously for Janis Joplin. While Joplin was (and remains) a substantial figure in music, this song was her only appearance on the U.S. pop chart. A good (but not great) single, Joplin's version is actually a cover, as the song was previously released by its songwriter Kris Kristofferson and first released by Roger Miller. As this is still a cover, that loses points for me as a one hit wonder as well. Me And Bobby McGee charted in the U.S. for 12 weeks in 1971 (peaking at #1 for 2 weeks) and has been recorded by many artists.

A very good song considering the source....and also the only song Janis did where her voice actually sounded good. If you listen to those other songs of hers, (Mercedes Benz, Ball and Chain, etc), you will notice she sounds like one of the worst alleycats ever ! But I do give her credit for this song. Unfortunately it didn't do good until she passed away...:(

I am not a huge fan of Janis Joplin. I do like the way she sang this song.she tamed it down some for this song. It turned out real nice.A pretty song.

I love this song but I will say that I don't believe a song by Janis should be included on a one hit wonder list. Yes, a majority of her songs were popular posthumously but she wasn't a one hit deal. What about Piece of my Heart, Ball and Chain and Mercedes Benz?
