Tue Feb 02 2010I think after reading the reviews it's well established that this company is a representative for slumlords. The Maintenance of their properties and tenants units is substandard to non-existent. The only way you will get repairs done is to threaten or follow-through with filing complaints with the city, then at the final hour they will come through and perform. They don't follow through on anything or even return phone calls, yet they wonder why you get upset with them. It seems they are in over their heads in all areas. The best advice is to do everything in writing so you can either have it fixed and deduct out of your rent, file complaints & code violations with the city or take them to court. I would imagine if you had their properties inspected there would be enough code violations to nearly put them out of business.

Mon Feb 01 2010If you read the majority of negative reviews they are for the most part right on correct. I can't really say anything positive about them except for they're always ready and willing to collect your rent check! They are rude and ill-mannered and this company is the worst I've ever dealt with since I've been a renter. They appear compassionate and concerned wanting you to think they are the best around and will take care of your every want and need. Once you're in, you're on your own. Forget about repairs, if you can get past the receptionist you'll get another voicemail if you're lucky. When you talk to someone (if they ever call you back) they say they'll take care of it. A week or two goes by, you call again. They pretend that is was taken care of and then agree to send out another person. Sometimes is does get repaired after the second or third call. If you call again the maintenance manager tries the initimidation and belittling tactics on you, complaining and scolding you about ... Read more

Mon Jan 25 2010I have never had to deal with such bad management company before. One request was sent to repair my apartment and their lack of response (by email or phone call) was simply unprofessional. Because I didn't hear anything back, I continued to follow up and after a couple months gone by, not only was I NOT given any confirmed date when the repair'd take place, I was actually belittled and insulted by their management office that I was being irrational in not being able to understand that they didn't respond (for two months) because they didn't have any ETA for me. Seriously?! Simply appalled by such horrible management company. I wouldn't even give 1 star rating, but am "required" to give at least a star. Don't rent an apartment if the management is MCM.

Wed Nov 18 2009If you are having a problem paying your rent to MCM, don't hide! Communicate with Belinda, and then with Barbara, to let them know when you think you can make a payment. If you do so, and follow through, you will find Barbara to be an extremely compassionate person. She will state your case to the owner and give you the benefit of the doubt. If you gain her trust, she will do more for you than you could have ever imagined.

Tue Aug 18 2009What can I say, other than the agents are very nice, and deceiptful, and sell you on something you don't need. After searching for properties around the $1800 mark, the agent took us to a great property that we fell in love with. Then dropped the price = $2400. At that point, we were committed to the place and put a deposit down (searching for a home, as we all know, is a highly emotional process). After filling out an application, we were INTERROGATED by Barbera. She interviewed us, asking pressing questions about our credit card debt, she called our references, then ultimately asked for an additional deposit. Once we moved in, we were told that the hardwood floors installed were against HOA rules and we were required to buy rugs to cover 90% of the flooring. We have 2 dogs (which were on our lease), and the reason we paid so much was partially due to the hardwood. Then, we found out that the condo building had 24 hour QUIET HOURS, as it was predominantly occupied by home... Read more

Wed Jul 08 2009Both, Barbara and Melissa were very helpful and understanding to some issues and concerns that I was having. I have had some bad experiences with other property managment companies in the past... cold harsh...not caring, and unwillingness go the extra mile. MCM Property Manament is GREAT and I would recommend them to anybody, anytime. VERY satisfied customer!

Mon Jun 01 2009TO ALL READERS... I was employed at this company longtime ago, maybe early 2000. The company and owners are not as horrible as some are saying. YES there were issues with maintenance staff but as I recall, MCM has always given their best to fix the problems. I remember sending my handyman over in a property in the middle of the rain because the parking area was flooded due to rain water and the drainage was blocked with soil and leaves.. or even at one point putting maintenance on the roof while its raining to remove blockage in the gutter... Maintenance crew were given Maintenance order form that residents were required to sign off detailing if work requests were completely done or need to comeback to finish. If TENANTS are not present at the time of the appointment, with their permission, Maintenance can access the premises to handle the requests, or can meet whomever the RESIDENTS assign to open the door for the handyman. *** LICENSED maintenance?? for minor jobs, it IS NOT require... Tue May 26 2009I lived in my apartment for the past year and half and I have always had nice experiences. I must be honest, work used to take forever to get done but I would always call Melissa and she made sure it got taken care of. I can see where some people wrote that repairs took awhile. It used to but it is better now that we can just send an email. I am surprised to see the negative experiences so many seem to have but I guess I am the lucky one. Maybe calls don't get returned immediately but like I said I always have good luck with Melissa. She is really fun, down to earth and I know she does care. Thanks MCM and thanks for Melissa!

Thu May 07 2009i've been living at one of MCM's buildings for the past 12 years. When something is wrong at my apartment i call and they come! easy as that! i've been reading the reviews lately and i am so thankful that is not my experience. if you have a complaint, call them and tell them! Candice, that new woman there has been really helpful lately and because of all the heat and me a/c broken, they've been very accommodating. dont believe everything you read! sounds to me that some people are just bitter!

Tue May 05 2009Having been a tenant with them for several years, the only good thing I can say is that there will probably be a special place in hell for the management team of MCM. There is nothing favorable to say about them. They are liars and have no honor. This is my experience and my opinion. And I have ample documentation to back up my statements, therefor they are NOT slander or defamation. This information is being provided in hopes of helping someone else make an informed decision to STAY AWAY from MCM Property Management.

Thu Apr 23 2009The positive reviews have been posted by the owners themselves. I know this because someone who works there (and can't wait to find a better job) told me...and they had a LOT to tell me! This company and the people who own it (yeah, you Marty and Candice) are a bunch of crooks. They are lying, deceitful and extremely unprofessional in all their dealings. Its 100% true what the other person wrote about MCM Properties having a all sorts of lawsuits brought against them and they deserve every one of them I am sure. Others have been filed that aren't even listed! STAY AWAY and NEVER EVER CONSIDER DOING ANY BUSINESS WITH MCM PROPERTY MANAGEMENT!

Mon Apr 06 2009My roomate and I are both in our late 20s....MCM matched us with a condo building full of retirees. Everytime we walk around past 9pm we are distubing the entire building. Everytime we us the guest spot..."that spot is for owners not renters" and almost the same for every other ammenity. For rent approaching 3Gs a month I would like to feel comfortable and at ease in my residence. WE clearly explained our expectations, lifestyle and needs..... completely disappointed.

Wed Mar 11 2009i am a new tenant in one of mcm's buildings and honestly could not be happier. i love that when i call the office i am always greeted with a voice of a person, rather a machine. they have been nothing but helpful with all my requests and demands. its only been 4 months, but i already feel at home. thank you mcm!

Thu Mar 05 2009I am writing this based on my last experience which was good. My contact was Candice and the problem was the front gate not locking. It was fixed in a timely manner and my phone call was returned. I have also had dealings with Belinda which were also good and phone calls were returned 90% of the time.

Mon Mar 02 2009After living in an apartment managed for two years by MCM, I am relieved that I am now leaving. You don't have much of a choice of who manages your apartment, so I am writing this just to relay some of the techniques that actually got these wretched people to listen to me. -As soon as you call, ask to speak to Barbara Yeager, Ron, or Melissa. Everyone else who works there is powerless and incompetent. So are Barbara, Ron and Melissa, but just a little bit less so. -When they are neglectful and rude, threaten to bring a class-action suit. Note that there are so many negative reviews on citysearch and yelp and that you CAN contact these people, many of whom have been subjected to unsafe living conditions as defined in your lease and by California law. -Don't let them throw you around when it comes to your security deposit. Let them know that you understand reasonable wear and tear and threaten to take them to small claims court. No one who works for this company is even remotely in... Read more

Wed Feb 18 2009Watch out people! The good reviews on here which all of a sudden appeared the last few weeks are obviously shams. This Management company is run by a group of disgusting cagey people who are beneath contempt. I wouldn't be surprised if the bosses ordered some of their employees to write them as part of their recent daily tasks. Nothing gets repaired, most problems end up having to be reported to the City as violations of either Building Code or Habitability Code and the staff is ....well there really aren't many words civil enough on here that one could use to describe them. Scroll down more and read the other reviews here for that! There is one lady there named Barbara who is such a mean-spirited revolting human being, you would wonder if her own mother even liked her. She almost takes on each slumlord's cause as her own. You wonder from under what rock she crawled out. If you want to live with some sense of happiness, avoid this management company at all costs. Mon Feb 02 2009Melissa at MCM is amazing! I've lived at my place for almost 2 years and it's really nice that she takes the time to call me back and take care of anything important that I need... My relationship with her makes me feel like I have a "hometown" friend in a prop manager in this very big city. Thanks Melissa for exceeding my expectations!!!

Wed Jan 28 2009I have been living renting with MCM for years now and I absolutely love them!! They are always their to answer my calls, and if I ever have anything that needs to be fixed or replaced they do it without any problems. If you ever have to deal with anyone there I would try and speak to Elle, she is so amazing and helpful. Whatever needs to be done Elle will get it done for you. Many of my friends rent from MCM and they love it too!!! I would definitely recommend MCM property management co. they are the best!!!

Wed Jan 28 2009i dont know what all this negative bs is coming about. mcm has been wonderful to me and my family. we have been tenants of mcm for two years now and i only have great things to say about the company. they always call back and help with what they can. thank you mcm and i wish you guys only the best! :-)

Wed Jan 28 2009Being that my husband travels often with his work, we have to move frequently and MCM has been the BEST company we have had the pleasure of working with. Melissa is great, she is on the ball and on top of everything! Have you met Elle? She is an absolute doll. Not only did they explain things in detail, they called us back when they said they would, gave us all the numbers to call to establish services and they even recommended us to a local gym, drycleaner and fantastic housekeeper. We too live in an older building so naturally their is more maintenance but we are patient. Maybe you longer tenants have bad luck with repairs but Candace the newest lady in the office called us back the same day we placed our request. Sorry others have such bad luck with them but I am definitely going to share this site with our neighbors because I know how much they adore the office staff too. Sounds like all the negativity is making you so unhappy so why not move?

Wed Dec 17 2008I've lived in their apartment for 8 years. They have never done anything when I've called. I have always had to pay for any work that needed to be done. To answer the nitwit as to why I stayed. I live in a great neighborhood and real estate values are beyond outrageously expensive, I'm very close to work and over the years have fixed the apartment up to where it looks great. Obviously that favorable review is a fraud! MCM always answers the phone(Belinda) and always promises to call back but they NEVER do. If you call after hours you get a terrible recording. One of my bedrooms was without electricity for almost a year until I finally decided to pay an electrician myself. Now I have been without heat and it has been really cold but they won't fix the heater. I think I'm going to file a small claims court case against the company, Marty, Belinda and Ron and urge everyone out there to do the same. At $5000 per case if enough tenants file it might make them wake up. If anyone out there is... Read more

Tue Nov 25 2008This woman seems to enjoy bringing people to tears for no reason. She is just a very mean, rude person and does not want to help or fix anything. Yuck! Avoid if possible.

Sun Nov 02 2008The positive review from 10/24/2008 was obviously written by the company itself ? it even reads like an ad! DO NOT BE FOOLED! This company is run by a bunch of beings who, in a perfect world, should displace the VERMIN in the buildings they manage. Like VERMIN, I would recommend that you AVOID MCM Property Management like the Plague!

Thu Oct 23 2008The company is soooo nice to work with and it's pretty cheap (comparing.) If you would like to call their number is (323) 951-0400.

Tue Oct 07 2008We have been living in an MCM building for 3 years, and it has been a nightmare from day one. If it was as easy to move as one reviewer in here suggested, we would have done so. But, as we live paycheck to paycheck, that is not as easy to do as it is to say. And, I also take offense to being classified as "one of those people who have a good thing and like to complain". In all my other tenant/renter experiences, there has never been a need to resort to yelling, cursing, and generally behaving without respect. HOWEVER, MCM has proven to be a sad exception. These people do not understand anything but hostile behaviour. As with the other reviewers (excepting that one lone tenant who clearly lives the only MCM property that is actually maintained) minor repairs are ignored; major repairs take repeated phone calls, and nothing is ever resolved without either myself or MCM losing their tempers. This is a managment company that allowed us, as paying tenants (who pay on time) to live with r... Read more

Mon Oct 06 2008Having been a tenant for a long time, I realize that the landlord/tenant relationship is naturally adversarial. So, if a management company eventually responds after persistent efforts, I give them two stars, because I'm grading on a curve. In our case, MCM has usually come through with repairs, usually after a few months for non-emergency issues, and somewhat more quickly for emergency issues. Some non-emergency issues have gone on for many months, though. We presently have three code violations that threaten safety that were reported a few weeks ago; I expect that they will eventually resolve them. We presently have a non-emergency repair that has been reported for ten months now and still is not fixed. Like I said, I'm grading on a curve to give them even two stars. They're also not good at all about calling back, and they do stall and play the usual kinds of telephone avoidance games, kind of like a deadbeat avoiding a collection agency. They're worse than the prior managem... Read more

Wed Sep 24 2008This is the worse property management company in all of Los Angeles. They refuse to fix things and generally treat tenants with a lack of respect. You have to yell and curse at them to get them to do anything. And they lie about your calls to fix things, keeping no official log of your calls. I can't tell you how many times over the years they refused to return calls on basic maintenance, and they have a reputation of hanging up in tenants faces when they call. They even hung up on the owner's daughter-in-law who is a tenant on more than one occasion. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY!!!

Mon Aug 11 2008Unbelievable and incredibly shoddy service. Avoid this company and the buildings it manages at all costs! The owner of MCM Property Management, Martin Julius Gurfinkel, is the absolute worst property manager I have ever encountered -- condescending, arrogant and just plain rude. After moving in to the apartment that had already been occupied by my roommate for some time, I sent ?Marty? a fax listing a number of relatively minor things that needed repair (such as a broken/torn screen door). Marty, eventually, called me back and, one by one, went through my list trying to justify why the owner of the building would protest to such repairs and why such repairs were not even necessary. Among countless other indignities, what caused me to finally move out was the following: I made a call to the MCM Property Management office regarding a leak in the shower/bath of our apartment ? our apartment was on the second floor. Of course, the call was never returned and the necessary repairs were ... Read more

Thu Jul 31 2008I came here to leave my take on this company, and was blown away by what some people were saying...certainly not my experience.I have been in one of their buildings for a year, going on two. My credit was not the best when I applied, but they charged me a little more deposit, and gave me the place.I really liked it and was so happy to get it.The building I'm in is 70 years old and has some problems, but that's to be expected. If I didn't want maintenance problems I would have moved into a new building. When I call for maintenace I actually get a live voice on the phone... In the past I was with another company and would only get voicemail, and never heard from anyone. So I just want to say I'm happy with this company, and only wonder one thing reading these other reviews...We all know actions speak louder than words...so if others are so upset, then why do they stay in the buildings they manage? If you think about it, it doesn't make much sense. It seems to me that these are the kind of p... Sun Mar 23 2008They rent out units in a beautiful neighborhood, charge outlandish rent, raise rent every year and refuse to fix anything. They know they've got you because it's hard to find an inexpensive place in the neighborhood we live in. They give you the runaround. Don't take care of anything until they think they'll get in trouble. They also have an attorney on staff.

Wed Mar 12 2008When moving in to my apt I was told that we had heat and a/c. When I moved in i came to realize that neither worked. I have lived here 3 years and nothing I have ever requested to be fixed has been fixed! This company has me and my neighbors in tears out of frustration some times. I am moving out finally solely because how terrible MCM is!

Tue Feb 05 2008This management company is the worst. I am a tenant in one of their buildings and have to call many times to get anything repaired in my apartment or in the building. They write rude letters to the tenants about activities going on in the building though they do nothing to help out. If you can help it, don't rent from them.

Wed Jan 02 2008These people do not care, they don't clean the walls they haven't repainted the building in years, the landscaping is a mess. The maintenance takes months to fix anything, they act like they are helpful when you call them but you end up getting the shaft. DO NOT RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE, THEY ARE NOT HELPFUL AT ALL.

Tue Dec 11 2007They don't take very good care of their tenants or the building. The building I live in is absolutely filthy and in a terrible state of disrepair. Missing numbers and no tenant names on the mail boxes, no building directory at the front of the building at the intercom, no cleaning or maintenance crew. The outside windows haven't been washed in 19 years. Badly in need of relandscaping. There hasn't been grass on the lawn since 1976. The manager of the building is the most useless human being I have ever met. She actually has gotten worse at her job through the years. But they raise my rent once a year. I'm on a fixed income and can't afford to move so I'm trapped in this slumlord nightmare. Shame on you Marty Gurfinkel. You should hang your head in shame in Temple, that is if you went. I thought the other reviews were exaggerated, but I just got the nastiest letter from Mr. Gurfinkel. He is the biggest D-ldo in the business. And Ron is his mini-Dildo. The company's not all bad.
