My boyfriend has a bad ass rx7 i Dont know much about cars but i do know that it scares me on the road. He put 4,000 dollars into his car. But none of that money went into the looks of the car.... the paint, body and interior is all stock. Now that he got his I want ONE!!!!

The Mazda RX-7, specially the FD3S (Third Generation RX-7), encompasses the soul of the rotary enthusiast. It is one of my dream cars to acquire and tune. I've seen many a clean tuned machine being produced out of Japan and a few here in the United States. It's high revving 13B-REW motor is one of my favorite designs of automotive artistry ever produced. Many people complain about the Rotary being hard to maintain or hard to tune, but those people normally have either 1) received a used car that was poorly taken care of (worn apex seals etc), 2) just attempted to increase the boost pressure, without properly taking care of the boost control and cooling, or 3) [my favorite], is just ignorant on how the rotary machine actually works and just f*cks it up.

I like this car too. But there's too many others that look like it, so it takes away the uniqueness.

The RX7 is an affordable sports car. Being an RX7 owner i could brag up the twin-turbo engine and tell you about all the times i killed civics or mustangs in a race, but to get the true feel of an RX7 you need to upgrade the twin turbo with a GREDDY T3/T4 hybrid turbo and push 600HP out of the RX7, then you will truly know the power of the triangle.

The RX-7 in twin turbo form is one potent sports car. Rear wheel drive with a power/weight ratio from heaven, this car is a blast to drive. Enough torque to make up for the usual turbo lag, and excellent balance facilitating great handling. I'd take a TT7 over a 300ZX or Supra TT any day.

The rotary engine hasn't had as much time to be engineered when compared with the piston engine. The rotary has only been in existence for 30 - 40 years. Given time, money, and most importantly, competition from other companies, i'm sure it can be a better engine than the piston. Of course, it's not looking hopeful that some other companies join the rotary race again.

The true heart of RX7 is the rotary motor. The car was built specifically for the rotary motor and there are no other production vehicles in the world that have had this sort of distinction. The car is light, fast, and agile even in stock configuration. Matching performance cars that cost 2 or 3 times as much! I have over 1 million miles under my belt and I have owned 8 different versions of the RX7. In my humble opinion there is simply no better bang for the buck these days. It's a real shame that the rotary is not being imported to the U.S. currently, but hopes are high :) As for reliability, all you have to do is maintain them with the same care you would a true sports car. I have had very few problems and I have owned 4 cyl, 6 cyl, and 8 cyl vehicles as well. Yes, a twin-turbo rotary does take more attention to detail, but it's no more difficult to maintain than the typical performance V8. If the car is well maintained there are many rewards in performance and longevity! The... Read more

Okay, this is the first actual SPORTS car that I've owned, before that it was mainly SUVs... I took a race driving course last spring, with my Rex, it was my first time really "driving that car" It turned out that it rained for the whole 2 days of the lessons, I was sure I was gonna loose it, being a 255hp twin turbo real-wheel drive car. Well, I pushed it really hard, no one could keep up with me(there was a Porsche Carrera and an Honda S2000) I was ahead of everyone. That's when I new this car there was a true sports car, and it was still stock then :p

I have owned two RX-7's (1st and 2nd gens) and they've both been incredible cars. Next up on my list is a 3rd gen. They are misunderstood because most people do not realize what they are .. a world class SPORTS CAR .. not a "sporty car" or "GT Car" (ie Supra) .. but a "Sports Car": light weight, high power, incredible handling.

Rx-7's have always elicited a visceral feeling with their drivers. They're a no-compromise driving machine. Perhaps one of the most pure sports-cars to be produced in the last 20 years. Any Rx-7 would be at home with a prancing pony on it's hood.

I had an RX-7 that, even with plenty of care and preventative maintenance, had too many problems to deal with. 2nd Generation RX-7.
