I remember a Simpsons episode where I believe Homer was winning big at some thing and he asked himself, "Could my day get any better?" Then when the announcer on tv said something like "And next, a very special 2 hour episode of Mama's Family" Homer responded with "YESSSS!" I'm thinking the Simpsons writers were mocking a little. A nightmare for me would be having my eyes clamped open like in Clockwork Orange and being forced to watch that 2 hour episode.

I saw precisely ten minutes of one episode. I turned the TV off to prevent any further scarring or brain damage. I figure I lost about 5 points of IQ that day.

This was a good show. Give thanks to Carol Burnette. Without Burnette, Mama Harper wouldn't exist. She got her start on the Carol Burnette show. MRS. Burnette even starred in a few episodes of Mama's Family. I liked the episodes with Bubba better than the other ones. I give Mama's Family a 4 star rating.

A spin off of a sketch from Carol Burnetts show. I loved it as a kid, but don't think I could stand it today.

I loved the way she burned everyone on the show and still pulled off being the defenseless old woman.

Mama's Family was really hit or miss. Some episodes were just flat out dumb. But when it was funny, it was hilarious.

A circa 1975 Carol Burnett skit that was worked on for some years by a mad scientist...almost no one who is not a direct descendant of Stonewall Jackson has even heard of this mysterious show...

A spin-off from characters developed on the Carol Burnett Show. It has its moments. A pretty good family sitcom but Mama is a bit too cranky and most everyone else is just too stupid.

One of the funniest shows of all time. They're still funny after all these years, and I LOVE '80's shows and the references to new fads and trends in this show.  The 80's was the best decade for TV, Music and Movies..

Love Mama's family! I still watch reruns occasionally. This is when sitcoms were good, and this show was damn funny. The last thing this world needs is another TV sitcom with a bunch of singles in New York hooking up with eachother.

Mama's Family is one of the funniest shows ever created Some may not get the campyness or humor in it, but for most people who do, they can see why its so underrated of a show. I prefer the NBC episodes because they were closer to the sketches, but the Syndicated series with Bubba and Iola do have their moments. Mama's Family is just a great show it has me on the floor laughing.

She played a character much older than her dealing with things she hand yet, and was funny while doing it. I still enjoy the episodes and have a freind who never misses it.

Very good show and I'm glad it's back on reruns. Ellen and Eunice helped immensely since the stars who portray them are so talented.

Perhaps I never gave "Mama's Family" enough chances, but I could never understand what others found in this series. The whole thing looked low budget and low production, and the comedy was sophomoric at best. Comparing this show to its genesis (a recurring skit on "The Carol Burnett Show") evidences the old adage that less is often more.

Folks, be aware that the Mama's Family season one DVD release are not complete episodes. There is about 3 minutes cut from each episode. This is because the DVD release Warner produced does not use the original uncut episodes as first broadcast in the 80's - they used the syndicated shows that ran forever on TBS and other stations. These episodes had several minutes cut out to let the stations include more commercial time. Warner says that don't own the uncut episodes; John Hamilton, son of Mama's Family producer Joe Hamilton does. But they made no attempt to acquire these uncut shows for the DVD, even claiming for a while that they had no idea who did. When you add in the fact that Warner included absolutely NO extras for the DVD, something almost unheard of these days, it's pretty clear they are doing the absolute minimum in getting these sets out. Some folks may not care, thats fine. BUT the buyer should beware that Warner has produced an inferior DVD set for the show, and wi... Read more

So many shows in the 80's were fun. Mama's Family is now in reruns and I'm enjoying them. If Ellen (Betty) had been in every one, I bet the ratings would have skyrocketed.

The simpler shows were always the best! This is my all time favorite 80's comedy sitcom. Its unfotunate that TBS will not be renewing the show after August 2006. Word has it their replacing it with the Cosby show. Haven't we seen enough of that show already? You can go to this site and sign the petition to save it : http://www.petitiononline.com/mama06/petition.html

I love Mama's Family. I wish they would have a special of Mama's Family. Like a family reunion. I sure wish they'd make good shows like this one again. Since I can't get Mama's Family on DVD yet, I tape it every morning. It's my favorite show.

I thought the show had its good days and its bad ones. It was usually funny and had some jokes or scenes that would be great to share with someone who might have missed it; but some of the characters were a tad on the annoying side.

Mama's Family is wittty and I love it. I'm so sick of sexual explicit shows like Will & Grace. They are so raunchy! If more shows were like Mama's Family this world would be a better and more safe place. I gladly let my kids watch it with me. I do NOT allow them to watch Will and Grace. Ugh those kind of shows make me sick.

Can you tell me if Mama's family is on DVD yet? I would love to have Mama's Family series. It was an enjoyable program, both my Mother and I liked. Vicky was made for that part, as well as the rest of the cast.

Mama's Family was and will forever be one of the best sitcoms on TV. I read through some of the poor ratings and so many ignorant people mention how corny the show was...hello that was the point.. each character had ther own silly, sometimes out there personality, but that is what made the show great... every cast member was extremely talented to pull this off.. the comedy was exceptional. I personally like the shows with Eunice and Ellen the most.. but there is no disputing what Bubba and Iola brought to the show... Long Live Mama!

They need more shows like this on tv now, instead of promoting all this sex on tv, now all you see on tv is sex, and women with no shirts on, or women with their breasts hanging out. No one wants to see that but preverted men!!

Thank you for noticing that I like NASCAR, whoever you are. This show speaks a lot to the state of our fears back then, while softening the edges with good humor. A show for its time, and one for my generation to keep in mind. TV shows as a mirror for history might make a good subject in college, if someone else hasn't thought of it already, and this show would be prime material.

An excellent show (and I don't like NASCAR). It exaggerated the South a bit but some things aren't far off. Hysterical to say the least and Vicki Lawrence did a superb job!!!!

This show sucked more than I could ever have imagined. What was so funny about Vicky Lawrence? She sucked, as well as Ken Berry and everyone else. People who liked this show will probably like NASCAR.

Mama is the bomb! The people that say Mama's Family isnt funny they should have their head examined. Especially when you compare the show to the ones being released now in 2004., nothing comes close to the humor and originality of Mama's Family. Vicki Lawrence Rules!

Ignatius is right on this one. Mama's Family was never given the respect it deserved and earned. The show was funny and while it could sometimes get corny, it still was worth watching because of Vicki Lawrence.

Corny, but could actually be very funny. Vicki Lawrence was very good as Mama. The show grew old fast though. The Mama's family skit was actually funnier on the Carol Burnett Show with Harvey Korman and Carol Burnett. Korman and Burnett did make guest appearances. Not a great show of the 80's, but not a bad one, it did provide some laughs.

I LOVE Mama's Family!!! However, since it's on so early in the morning here, I tape it beforehand. Vicki Lawrence does such a terrific job. :) You would never know it's her because she is the total opposite of her alter ego. I got to meet Vicki a couple of weeks ago and Vicki is a VERY sweet woman very willing to take the time to chat with her fans individually and have her pictures taken with them. :)
