Fri Feb 10 2012The Mall of America does not have a heating system. It requires air conditioning in the middle of winter to remove customers' body heat. It is the biggest tourist attraction in Minnesota, paralleling the Woodfield Mall being the biggest tourist attraction in Illinois. Most shoppers are tourists and travelers from rural areas. Locals shop at the many nearby normal sized malls, such as the one in Eden Prairie, six miles west on I-494. Merchandise is the kind of stuff out-of-towners think they can't get back home. MOA has 2.8 million square feet of retail space, making it 3.3 times the size of a typical mall. Its 500 stores are 3.3 times the 150 found in a typical mall. There are malls in Asia having 5 to 7 million square feet and more than 2,000 stores. People visit so they can say they've been there. It's a place to worship consumerism.

Wed Jul 08 2009The Goliath of malls, with about 400 shops and restaurants. This was a fun place when I came here in high school. I remember spending copious amounts of money both times I visited. They have all the standard clothing and accessories shops a teenage girl could want. There is a small amusement park in the middle of the mall, which is fun for younger kids.

Mon Sep 19 2005I can't really see any reason for out-of-state people to come to this mall. Many of the shops can be found in local malls. The department stores anchoring the place are nothing special and don't even mesh with what department stores Twin Citians usually shop at (honestly, who would rather go to Macy's than Marshall Field's?). Chances are that you'll have more fun shopping on Grand Avenue in St Paul or downtown Minneapolis.

Fri Mar 18 2005The Mall of America is fun. My kids love the underwater aquarium (although pricey) and the Camp Snoopy theme park (again, pricey.) You can find just about anything there, but after a couple of hours, and an empy wallet, you are so ready to leave!

Mon Mar 08 2004It is as simple as this. If you already hate shopping malls and people then you will hate this mall. On the other hand if you love shopping malls this is the king of them all. I thought it was very well worth driving 5 hours for. My wife and I took our 3 and 4 year old to the amusement park inside the mall ( camp snoopy and we spent 10 hours in camp snoopy alone. The rides were great not just for the kids but for all of us! The food is great and yes of course it is a little overpriced but what do you expect at a major tourist attraction. You can alone just about get full on the samples that the food courts keep trying to shove down your throat as you walk around anyway. Yes there is sooo much that it can overwhelm you and that is why you need to maybe plan a few days there. We were in awe the whole time just because this mall is so huge and awesome to look at!

Sat Feb 07 2004I live near by yet I only go there with guests from out of town. It is cleaner than you might expect and it can occupy 5 hours easy but I find it too cumbersome for local shopping.

Thu Jun 13 2002In its defense, one can find just about anything here. Other than that, it's a monstrosity... a massive shrine to excess, consumerism, concrete, pavement, and corporate control. After I leave the MOA, I feel as though I've spent my time in an alternate (much more frightening) universe. Numerous times I've vowed never to return, but it never works. Someone has to return something there and I'm the only one with a car... a movie that I really want to see is only showing at the MOA... etc. Ugh. But if ya like malls, you'll be in shopping bliss.

Tue Apr 16 2002It's OK. If you're in the area at the time, stop by if you don't mind the crowds; but it's basically a mall with an indoor theme park. It has some good restaurants as well.

Tue Dec 18 2001if you're in the mood for a major urban shopping centre, the moa is the place to go. everything imaginable can be found there, and it's fun just to go and see.

Tue Sep 04 2001The Mall of America sucks! I live near it and i don't even go there unless it is absolutly necessary. It really is nothing special, just an oversized shopping mall. It is totally not worth making an outstate trip just to see it.It is always crouded and overpriced for the same thing you can get from any other mall within 10 MI. for much less.

Sat Oct 30 1999I think it is way too big - you cannot enjoy because it is too overwhelming.
