Sun Nov 08 2009I understand why this site is slow, thousands of items take time to load. i think a lot of it also has to do with the extra advertisememnts on this site, I know Magellen has to make his money, but I think that might also be why it is slow. Usually, if a review or comment takes to long, I don't wait and just go to another site. I'm sure other people do too, so yeah, a faster site would be a HUGE improvement.

Wed Oct 07 2009I wouldn't say the website needs to be made faster, but one thing I've noticed as of late is a dramatic increase to the number of adverts on the site. If at any point the goal is to make the site faster then the addition of the extra adverts will have made the overall page size larger anyway (and so marginally slower). I understand why adverts get added to a site as they're a good source of revenue, but beyond a point it distracts from the actual content of the site and risks alienating it's users. The first time I saw the advert boxes above and below the list of reviews I wondered where the review had gone and thought maybe the site had been hacked - after a quick panic I scrolled down and to some relief noticed the reviews were now just padded out with extra adverts. I think one way to lessen the impact of such an increase of adverts would be to arrange them in a similar way to the "related items" you see on Amazon when viewing a product - in a linear scrolling element similar to a ... Tue Jul 21 2009I don't know if It is Firefox or RIA, or maybe both. But It seems to take 5 years for every Comment or Review to post. I would not Mind if it were faster. Then again, Patience is a virtue I would do well to Learn.

Wed Jun 17 2009Faster really is the best feature. The whole team here works very hard on making and keeping the site fast and responsive, even as we double the number of items to rate, add thousands of new reviews per day, and increase the ways to view the site activity. (Original post) Faster is always better! Lately the site seems quite a bit faster because of changes to the database configuration.Because of some recent changes to the site, avatar images load a lot faster now, especially on the Recent Reviews page.

Fri Jun 12 2009The overall speed of the site seems pretty good now, but of course if you can cut back on the already significantly reduced appearance of the Demon Star, I'm all for it. UPDATE: I really haven't seen too much of the Demon Star lately, but of course as I tried to post this review, he came up on my screen and stared at me for a good 20 seconds or so. Apparently Demon Star isn't happy with me for wanting him to disappear forever.

Wed Apr 30 2008Sometimes, site is freezing on the item submission. Sometimes, it is really slow. I guess, some complications happen, when somebody is trying to access the listing you are editing and rating. I understand, it is a problem that is not easy to resolve. In general, site response is descent and acceptable.

Wed Apr 09 2008Would only work if everyone had a computer that could load it that fast.

Tue Apr 08 2008Speed is always good.

Mon Apr 07 2008Seems pretty good to me, compared to what I remember. The advent of "speed rating" on the other hand, has massively increased the number of one word reviews, that in many cases are as opaque as the final 30 pages of Finnegans Wake

Wed Dec 26 2007Not a horribly big issue.

Thu Nov 08 2007I always thought this site was a little slow, I think computer RAM is crammed up with too much junk when this site uploads.

Wed Aug 29 2007Obviously all websites could do with loading faster, and although RateItAll isn't especially fast to load, I can't say it's something I'd pick out as particularly problematic...
by ladyjesusfan77_7
Wed Aug 29 2007Most of the time, I don't have a problem with this. But sometimes it can be a little aggrivating when you have something to say, and it's taking forever for the page to load.
by bustindustin
Thu Aug 23 2007I'd probably come to this site more often if it were faster. For some reason pages load very slowly for me, and I have DSL.

Tue Jun 12 2007Its not terribly slow but, it could use a little help. PS. Why are there so many people that rate chewing tobacco?
by ih8rateitall
Mon Mar 13 2006I'm not picky, but I have a pretty good all American computer. But my computer slows down whenever I come to this site, especially when I click on the rate it button.

Thu Oct 07 2004I'm pleased with everything about the site, except the fact that it seems to slow down over time for me. Might just be my computer, might be spyware (although I have scanned numerous times before), but for now I'm going to assume it's RIA. Just a small gripe.
by virilevagabond
Tue Jul 20 2004Of course faster is always better, but that isn't really saying much. Personally, I haven't had much reason to complain about the speed of RateItAll. Moreover, the site doesn't have any irritating pop-ups that tend to slow pages down. The bottom line is that as of today, improving the speed of this web site should be one of the lower priorities until technology and lower costs suggests (if not demands) otherwise.

Sun Feb 08 2004This HAS been an issue in the last few days. Most annoying is that the recent comments are no longer instantaneous --this formerly was one of the best features of the site (since you could immediately look at your recent posts in context). I have learned to copy the text in my posts into my paste buffer before I click submit because of the frequency with which it is lost.

Sat Nov 15 2003The website works fast enough for me.

Mon Jun 30 2003I've got the need... the need for speed!
by kamylienne
Sun Jun 29 2003I don't know what RIA can do about the speed of the site faster (unless they're handing out free cable modems, and if that's the case, hook me up!), but if they could, it'd be nice, I guess.
by rebelyell1861
Tue May 06 2003Heck yeah. Why is this site so much slower than every other site I go to anyway?
by bigbaby
Sun Mar 16 2003The speed is fine, at least on my computer. But, the faster, the better!
by chunkylover53
Mon Feb 10 2003I have a cable modem, so I find that this site works pretty quickly. DSL can be awful slow though.
by bb3fan
Thu Aug 08 2002already fast enough!!!
by deathrattle
Thu Aug 08 2002The website moves at a good pace. It's not the biggest problem of the website. However, if they want to, I'm all for it. making a website run faster is never a bad idea
by snoopy
Thu Mar 21 2002I've noticed that it has become considerably faster in recent months, but there is still room for improvement. Sometimes, it still takes a while for this site to load.

Thu Jan 10 2002I see this suggestion has given us more convoluted reasoning and unsolicited advice from the Freak. I’m sorry, but I have my own style of putting these reviews together and it doesn’t involve the necessity of a slow connection. All slow connections do is cause people to lose interest and go away. The speed of the website is going to have to stay consistent with the size…as time goes by and the volume of comments increases then of course the site will have to be given more oomph. This just seems like garden variety preventative maintenance guys, not an added feature.

Sun Nov 25 2001I haven't had any large troubles with the speed. This isn't like e-mail or anything (although some hold correspondence with personal messages) where there are vital things to check up on. So if RIA can increase the speed a bit, okay, but I think there are more important things to add to the site.

Sat Oct 27 2001The speed of the Web site is FINE! I suggest that you people take advantage of the snailspace speed of the site to think about things. While I am waiting for a page to come up where I want to rate something, I think about what to put in my comment. On the day that I rated Osama bin Laden, the Web site was taking forever. During the several minutes that it took for the page to appear, I carefully planned, plotted, and outlined my comment. The result was that seven people clicked "helpful" on that comment. So you see, the slowness of this site is a good thing for me! The fact that this site sometimes takes a long time to give you a page could help people to make better, more carefully planned comments. Please think about what I have said, and take care, everyone!

Thu Sep 06 2001Of course Rate-It-All should be on the cutting edge and attempt to make the site as fast as possible. Normally, it does not take that long at all for the website to download. Sometimes, it may be a little slow; I guess it depends on how the server is acting that day.
by janey_lane
Sat Aug 25 2001Sometimes the site is pretty fast, sometimes it's slow as hell. It could also depend on the number of people that visit the site at a specific time. The more people on it at the same time, the slower the website. So yes please make it faster. When I only have a few minutes to open a page I'd like it to open in time.
by mikkicc9
Mon Aug 06 2001That would be wonderful!I have gotten in trouble with my parents plenty of times while trying to do things on this site (because I wasn't supposed to be up).
by pedrogouveia
Mon Jul 23 2001This site is WAY TOO SLOW!!! I'm on a cable modem, and believe me or not, every page on this web site loads like a dial-up or worse. And it's only this website. I have to close Internet Explorer and open it again every 3 minutes, because it becomes simply impossible to go anywhere on this website. PLEASE IMPROVE THE SPEED!!! PLEASE!!!
by the_decockster
Mon Jul 02 2001Of course! Who WOULDN'T want a faster site??
by danmuse
Tue Jun 26 2001I'm rating this suggestion as great, meaning I think this site definitely needs more speed. Lists seem to take a long long time to download, especially if they are entire lists rather than a page at a time. This would improve the experience here dramatically.
by afterglow70
Wed Jun 13 2001I have Road Runner so it won't make a big difference to me, but it may for other people who have the standard "phone line".
by artbuf
Thu Jun 07 2001Grant, I am on a cable modem, so I am not seeing what dial-ups do, but I rarely have a performance problem on this site. I compare it to CNN.COM and MSN, and it stays right up there. And this is a dynamic site, constantly changing and pretty up to date on stats...while those only change every few hours...I think this site is pretty quick, really.
by pit_bull
Sat May 26 2001YES! I think that they should make it faster, I get so angry when it takes forever to load something.I think this is a great idea!
by atomicsox
Mon May 21 2001the site needs to be speeded up, every window takes up to 1 minute to load, maybe everyone else has loads of time to kill, but the site is too slow...
by caleb_rodriguez
Tue Mar 06 2001When you try to rate something,it needs to be faster and not waste time of the persons life.
by magellan
Fri Feb 02 2001It seems pretty fast to me already, but then again I am not dialing up.
by wes_d814
Fri Feb 02 2001The site seems pretty fast to me (even when I am home on my slow dial-up connection). But, obviously faster is always better.
by johnny_roulette
Tue Nov 07 2000it just took me three or four hours to rate all 248 rock/pop bands!
by pooroldedgarde_rby
Tue Oct 31 2000Speed is critical, it's too easy to get frustrated by a slow loading page and just leave. This site seems to be pretty quick and of course part of the speed is dependent upon your own system. With that in mind the servers should be as fast as possible.
by govinda
Mon Oct 30 2000A fast Web site is key. I don't want to sit around waiting for a page to load. The faster, the better. I'd trade fancy graphics for faster page loads any day.
