Thu Apr 23 2009So we got there hungry and craving for Indian food...ordered the Maharani platter...ordered three things off the menu and the server confirmed the order...Maharani platter. We eat...food lacked taste (fortunately we were hungry)...service was on a snail speed...literally crawling...somebody serve me! No offer of a desert (are you kidding!!!) and then the bill came. They added another main dish + the price of the Maharani platter. When I mentioned I only ordered the Maharani platter...she said, you ordered three things. I asked then you should have clarified...this is how I understood the menu. BYW, we maybe finished 25% of the food...owing to not being tasteful...but, ate it since we were hungry. The charge for the third dish was also the one which was most expensive...no apologies...nothing...we paid and even gave a tip (which after leaving the restaurant we realised...was something the person did not deserve since there was NO service!)

Fri Apr 18 2008I love Indian food and have eaten there a few times. There's a wide variety of meat and vegetarian seclections; a huge choice of fresh breads. The flavors are complex, delicious. My Mom loved the chicken vindaloo. I've had many vegan dishes. It's usu mild-mod spicy. There is an adequate amt of food for price and the atm is enjoyable 4 casual dining. BYOB too. Too bad, but the whole staff was VERY rude to my group 1 nite about 1 1/2 to 2 hrs before closing. We are an easy-going group of bartenders and servers from a close-by restaurant. We called ahead and they said that we could come, but when we arrived 15 min later, they said that they didn't have room to seat us, which was a blatant lie. There was a large table available and a few small ones. And at least 2 groups were seated after us. One was a 4-top and the other was a 2-top . The 2-top was seated at an open ~8-top table. We were mystified. We were quiet, polite, clean. Most of the group was waiting outside while 2-4 people tried... Read more

Sat Mar 24 2007We were on vacation and were craving some spicy Indian food. We tried Cafe Maharani and found that the food was just great. The naans and curry were fresh. The restaurant is small and usually gets crowded, I would recommend grabbing a bottle of wine from the Star Market across the street and having a glass while waiting for a table. The food is worth the wait!

Wed Nov 30 2005One of my friend told me about Cafe Maharani and how spicy they can make the food. Since I am from Thailnad I can handle very spicy food. I didn't have any idea about Indian spicy lavel. In their manue said " tell us how do you like your food? Mild medium, spicy, Fire hot or Vishnu? I didn't have any idea about the Vishnu lavel of spicyness. In Indian words Vishnu means where hundred devils arrive to gether with fire and make the place really hot and warm. I accidently ordered my lamb masala Vishnu and when I started eating I didn't feel it at the beganning because it was very good but when it arrived in my stomach it relized what vishnu was doing.I had to order a lassi to bring the Vishnu come down hahahaha . I enjoyed the food very much. Thank you Maharani

Wed Nov 30 2005I am a business man and I travel all around the world. I recently visited India and fell in love with Indian cusine. When I came back I still had the craving for Indian food, so I searched on line about the Indian restaurants on Oahu, and I found that cafe Maharani had the best reviews. My wife and I dined in at Cafe maharani. The taste was just like the food in India. The naan was freshly baked and there was a wide variety of dishes. The food was accurately priced according to the quantity given. I was very impressed. I was very happy to know that the taste I fell in love with in India was right here in my home.

Mon Nov 21 2005Not much to say, just had a really bad experience with poor food quality and even poorer service. Just visited Hawaii on vacation and have never been treated so poorly. When I called for directions, they said "Dont come, we are full." I should have listened but we happened to be in the area so we tried it. My wife was so disappointed when the food finally came after waiting so long we were shocked because it didnt even look like it had been just cooked. We suspect our lamb and palak dishes were reheated in a microwave or something. We couldnt eat it so we just paid our $50 tab and told the server we werent happy with the food. The server didnt even seem to care and didnt even say thank you and instead told us to go somewhere else. Believe me, we certainly will.

Sat Oct 29 2005On arrival, it was obvious that this was the place to be for Indian food. The restaurant was packed and the atmosphere was very Indian-like. There were two tv screens playing Indian music videos and the air was full with Indian spices. Although we waited about 30 mins to get seated, it was worth the wait. We ordered the combination dinner for two, which seemed like a good deal. We got two samosas, two entrees, rice and naan for about $35. The portions were big and the taste was amazing, however the service was slow. After trying the previous restaurants, we now know what real naan looks and tastes like. All I can say is, there is a big difference and the taste can't be compared with any other Indian restaurant on Oahu.

Fri Oct 28 2005I visited Cafe Maharani about 6 yrs ago when they newly opend. It wasn't that populer then, but last weekend I was there with few of my friends, and I was really shocked to see how populer they became in 6 yrs. We had to wait about an hour for our table. I saw a big differenc in their cooking. The foods were excellent and their naans and Tandoori rooti was very good as well. I was really impressed with the big change. All I have to say now is, you guys need a bigger space so we don't have to wait. Wish all the best guys.

Thu Oct 27 2005I had my daughter's 5 th birthday at Cafe Maharani. I wasn't sure it was a great idea to have a birthday there for her, because I thought all the Indian foods are spicy! I wasn't sure until I went to Cafe Maharani. I can't handle spicy food at all, so I ordered a dish call chicken shahi korma for me and Kashmiri malai chicken korma for my daughter. It was awsome, we enjoyed it so much. The chef made us a special naan bread with Rasons, nuts, and dried fruites, it was very good. Thank you for making that night special for us.

Fri Oct 21 2005There isn't any single Indian restaurant on Oahu that serve Garlic or Potato Naan. Cafe Maharani is the only Indian restaurant on this island that has both of those. I am a vegetarian and I always wanted to try all different naan , paratha, or chapati and Vegetarian biryani. I was happy to see that they have all these. Very tasty vegetarian dishes, it even tastier with the fresh Naans. I am glad to find this place.

Fri Oct 14 2005Without a tandoor clay oven, Indian restaurant don't sound fullfilleld. Cafe Maharani is the only Indian restaurant in Hawaii that has that. I was very impressed with their foods. Fresh Tandoori chicken, lamb kabab, Yogurt sauce Raita, all of these are sooooo good. They are excellent with their naan bread. They have all different Naan, Alo Naan (potato naan), Lamb or chicken keema naan, Garlic Naan ( my personal favourite). the biryanies are huge of portion ( can feed almost 5 people). I finished my dinner with MANGO LASSI ( A yougurt drink with fresh mango). I was fully satisfied and I had a great evening at Maharani, I wish the best for them.

Wed Sep 29 2004If you are looking for Indian food in Hawaii. This is the best you are going to do. The food is good but not excellent, the service is average at best. If you are looking for a helful, friendly, service with a smile server you have come to the wrong place. If you are looking for some indian food that will tie you over until you go the mainland and find real good indian food then this will do.

Sat Aug 02 2003I'm Indian, so I've been looking for decent Indian places to eat, and this is probably better than most on Oahu, though I'm still not impressed. The restaurant hasn?t much in the way of ambience...the bathroom is hidden in a strange spot and seating is limited. The service was okay--our waiter was competent if not friendly. Food is decently spicy if you order the "hot" dishes, though I was disappointed to learn that the dish I had chosen first from the "hot" category, one of only two, was unavailable that evening. If on the menu, it should be available--or if for some reason circumstances prevent it from being available, shouldn't there be a note on the menu to that effect? Anyway, come if you want take-out and reasonable Indian fare or you like your waiters solemn-faced, but India House is cheaper and tastier.
