Even though I like Tom Selleck I found this show hard to sit through. I think the formula was growing old by the time Magnum P.I. aired. It would have been a lot better in the 60's. Seems like the pacing was a bit slow like they were trying to stretch 30 minutes of plot into an hour show.

The show sucked, even though Tom Selleck is a very good actor.

For what it was, "Magnum, P.I." was a relatively solid television series. The creators (Donald Bellisario & Glen Larson) obviously built on "The Rockford Files" in that Magnum (Tom Selleck) was a likeable, guy's guy who, despite his good looks, still got beat up on occasion. In addition, Higgins (John Hillerman) provided an effective counter character to Magnum, though the cronies (T.C. and Rick) were more weakly developed (Rick especially got irritating on occasion). Also, episodes of detective shows tend to be closed due to the genre, but this series was able to have some longer subplots that added an additional complexity.

I enjoyed Magnum. Judging from some of the comments, many people found the show boring. I never did. It was an entertaining show, and had a really great cast of characters. The bond beteen TC, Rick and Magnam, and yes even Higgins, was vital to the show and many of the storylines played off that. My only problem was that at times Magnam's character was inconsistent. At times being a cool and fearless special agent in the Navy, and in the very next episode, someone who got beat up by some big islander, a la Maxwell Smart. Other then that this is still a show that I enjoy watching in reruns.

I just never got into it. It seemed dated, like it belonged in the 70s with pat endings and impossible solutions to lame plot lines.

Everything that was great about the 80's. Nice guy who usually comes out on top surrounded by some great friends. There were quite a few very well written episodes and even the fluff in between was a joy to watch. We need more shows like Magnum today.

Selleck is a nice guy and this was a great show. The scenes were nice and the characters kinky enough to keep your attention.

Better than some, mostly due to the scripting, which when it stayed light wasn't bad. When it occasionally tried for serious, it was pretty dismal.

Action, adventure, Hawaii - this was a great show. Often funny, sometimes serious, Magnum was a must watch on Thursdays!

This always struck me as a generic show. I never could understand why it was the most popular action show of the 1980s considering all the superior ones out there. The biggest problem was that Magnum was terribly inconsistent. Some episodes were quite entertaining, but just as many were jaw-droppingly boring and just find of meandered aimlessly from scene to scene with no place interesting to go. The fact that Magnum has a higher average rating here than MacGyver is nothing short of a sacrelige.

This was a great show. Especially John Hillerman who is a great actor, probably the best on the show. As for Steve Garcia who previously commented about Tom Sellick stinking. I guess thats why he had a hit show and is a successful actor who is a multi-millionaire, and you most likely make minimum wage picking grapes or landscaping

I was watching the E. True story behind Magnum P.I. and was impressed with all that had happened with the show and it's past. It was very incredible and very entertaining to learn about the show's past. Tom Selleck was the man with the mr. nice man attitude. I loved when he was always on the chases and who can never forget the unforgettable Guest stars of the show! Shannon Daughtery, Carol Burnett, and even the Murder She Wrote Chareceter Jessica Fletcher who had a special appearence on the show? I say outstanding to Tom and the gang and cheers to finally letting the guy who played Mr. Higgings to win his one emmy award. By the way Mr. Higgins, are you really the owner of that house?

Vietnam vet. SEAL. MACVSOG. HOOYAH! Great show! I wish it never would've gone off of the air, but I really enjoyed the final episode. If you followed the series, it left you wanting more but graciously bowed out when it's number was up.

It was never meant to be realistic, it was just a bit of fun with some good humour. Magnum never actually seemed to do any private investigating. Higgins was briliant he played the part of a upper class englishman so well.If anyone wants to slag Magnum I suggest they turn their telly to football because thats about their mentallity

I truly good show. The genius of this show is that thew writers knew to make Selleck (Magnum) an imperfect person. He's so good looking that if he were perfect (like James Bond) men wouldn't have watched. But he was a little bit of a bumbler, so everyone could like him.

i saw the season finale in the summer of 00 and couldnt believe that the final scene took place in a strip club and there were naked strippers in the background! maybe it didnt originlly air that way but i was impressed by such a ballsy move for a network show at its time or any time for that matter-

Right up there with my all time favorites. Excellent cast, great scenery and besides what young boy didn't want to be Magnum during the early part of its run.

although Tom Selleck was and is hot. The character he played was way too philosophical to make the show enjoyable to watch.

Not every show about a detective has to rely on fights and explosions to advance a storyline. Leave that to brainless sins against the airwave gods like Walker and Nash Bridges. This show had charm and chose to develope its characters via dialogue and motifs. To say this show is boring is to expose one's utter lack of understanding the concept of character arc.

Magnum P.I. was meant out to be a mix between Smokey and The Bandit and Charlie's Angels, but the show was extremly annoying and totally dull, with very few characters, and an extremly dull script. I can't remember there being any action or thrills in this show, but just some really corny love scenes.

One of my favourites.A cut above the rest, with good writing and acting, great locations with believable, and most importantly, likeable characters.I just had to add my comments after reading the two previous ones, who probably think The Dukes Of Hazard is a masterpiece!

I enjoyed all the Hawaii scenery, and at the time Magum's red Ferrari looked really cool, but this show was just kind of boring. After watching it 4-5 times, I realized that they kept recycling the same plot for each show. And how many times can they make a point of showing that Magnum is more of a realistic hero because he doesn't do well in fights? Enough. This show wasn't that great when it came out, and it's even worse to watch in re-runs.
