Lost in Space

Could have been good. The cast was great and if you were about 10 years old and could identify with Will you probably enjoyed it. What a let-down for Guy Williams' fans. He was great in Disneys' Zorro series. The robot was always cool. I think he was first featured in the movie "Forbidden Planet" starring Leslie Neilsen and Ann Francis. Good movie.

Come on, Danger Will Robinson. a campy kids classic

I liked this show when I was a kid

I was always a bit of a stunard as a kid-- I watched "Lost In Space" over "Star Trek"; I watched "The Munsters" over "The Addams Family". Silly, silly show obviously not intended for future Mensa members, granted, but certain episodes stay in the memory, sort of like a festering sore that never quite heals. I remember in particular one episode where The Robot fell in love with an evil female robot bent on destruction of somebody...either the human race or the Robinson family...I can't remember exactly at this point in time, but I do remember that the evil robot scared the hell out of me (thankfully, it didn't make a misogynist out of me). I also remember an episode with Stanley Adams (he appeared in several "Twilight Zone" episodes and ended up committing suicide) where he played a giant carrot who constantly needed "moisture...I need moisture!", and where the effete Dr. Smith was transformed into a celery stalk, if I remember right. space junk. liked it okay as a kid. doctor smith and the robot amused me for some reason. i liked angela cartwright too. preteen hormones. i think the family unit as refuge from the harsh and threatening alien landscape was comforting on a subconscious level. oddly enough. all those air-raid drills must have been taking their toll.

Though I'll admit to liking "Lost In Space" when I saw the series in reruns as a child, as an adult I can now see how the series bordered on pathetic. For starters, the concept isn't original since it's simply the Swiss Family Robinson in space. In addition, the storylines quickly centered around the overachieving Will (Bill Mumy), the whiny Dr. Smith (Jonathan Harris), and the robot. The cowardly Smith almost always got on my nerves even though the character developed into the comic relief. Comparisons with its contemporary "Star Trek" are also inevitable, and this series wasn't believable enough even accounting for the science fiction genre and technological limitations of the day. The bottom line is that "Lost In Space" just doesn't cut it when measured against most of the 1960's television shows on this list, notwithstanding its classic contribution to pop culture (namely "Danger, Will Robinson!").

I am forced to admit that I loved this show. "Danger, danger Will Robinson!!"

I thought this was one of the most original and one of the best SCI-FI shows of all time. Apparently the networks thought that way too. They turned down Star Trek in favor of Lost in Space. Yes, the show did get campy as it turned to color. The original writing and effects for that time were great though. The Robot has to be one of the most famous pop icons too. I would put his popularity with C-3PO and R2-D2 any day.

I've always liked this show. I especialy liked the first season in B/W, it was alot more serious than the later ones.

Maybe I was a dumb little kid, but I got caught up in the adventure of this family show. I can still hear the robot warning "DANGER!" and I'd be on the end of my chair. Good cast. Good show for the time!

I am a very kind person; but I myself, even wanted to "off" dr. smith! The rest of the show was cute and had alot of family value to it.. I am not fond of stupidity in shows though... where a child is left with an obviously dangerous doctor and such .. or someone who continually puts a families life in danger but they keep trusting him just the same... aw well, that was then this is now? then?

This show was my childhood favorite. I thought the Jupiter2 was the most dazzling spaceship I had ever seen. The technology was state-of-art. The storylines were exciting and initially dramatic. The cast was great and made a wonderful family unit. The robot was awesome. This show had great potential. Season one was great! Then something changed. During season two the tone of the show changed and became siller and siller. By the end of the second season, I began to lose interest in the show. I hung in there thru season three and they did have a few good storylines and I thought maybe the show would get back on track. Then the show was cancelled. Recently LIS came out on DVD. I purchased season one and really enjoyed it. I then purchased season two and once again it became silly and I lost interest. All in all, I still have very fond memories of this show and give it 4 stars (mostly for season one).

Lost in space is a classic.I really liked the moral lessons that were conveyed.This is when television was used to influence people in a positive way.Today television is without values and is a negative influence on people.

Why didn't they just kill Dr. Smith, like they should have also done with Gilligan.

I loved this show...it got a little strange toward the end of its run with the plant people...you could actually see the cast loosing it during that episode...but it was good for what it was...wish they used Judy and Penny more towards the end. Bubble Headed Booby!!!!

I really l ike this show Dr. Smith made the show funny and i liked the way judy was always stupid enough to get in trouble...ahem..anyway luv it even though the props were used over and over again.

Was Guy Williams a major babe in that little spaceman uniform or what! lol Yep, Dr. Smith was a PAIN, oh the pain... The only one with any common sense was the robot... Man, I sure do miss the good old days!

Dr. Smith was so gay. The parents should never have left Will alone with him. John Robinson must have been eating his space wheaties to maintain his strong physique. Loved the episode where Penny dances on a table.

Incredibly goofy. Danger! Danger! Danger!

This was a great show...the one thing I did'nt like was that as time went on Dr.Smith got dumber and dumber. If you watch the old ones he is smart and cunning. I like one of the first ones where he programs the robot to destroy the ship...of course he has to stop the robot because he's trapped on board the ship after it takes off. The writers never explain why he wanted to destroy the ship and crew?

a 3.5. when I was a child I loved watching this show and would give it a 4. now as an adult i can see how really camp this show could be. I liked that Will a child got to be the hero a lot> I liked Robot who waved his arms and yelled "danger danger" Dr. Smith, the cowardly stowaway who always managed to cause trouble. I think this show ended up surrounded will and robot for the most part. the other characters were ignored for the most part. Judy was a joke, the actress cannot act and only poses and points. Now when I watch it sometimes on the sci fi channel the sets were pretty cheap and the scripts were pretty cheesy yet it is still fun to watch for old times.

"Lost IN Space" was one of the best shows of the 60's. I watched it on a regular basis and loved it, I still rent the Video's at the library so that I can rewatch them even now. I would like to hear from other fans of the show.

My all-time favorite show. I still watch it occasionally and it entertains me as much as when I was a kid. The Robot was one of the best TV characters of all time.

Although no Star Trek, I really liked the Jupiter II and Marta Kristen as Judy Robinson! Irwin Allen created a different sort of sci-fi...as the series moved on from black n white to color, I enjoyed the humor of Jonathan Harris...and the cool aliens. This series had the best theme song (both) and score by John Williams. I gave it a 4 because the story lines really got lame towards the end of the last season...the humanoid vegetables being THE WORST of the lot. But overall a classic science fiction show that I still watch and enjoy!

I wish it were yet on today

If LIS had continued along the path it followed during it's first season... especially the first seven or eight episodes... this would have been TV Sci-Fi at it's BEST! Unfortunatly, we all know better, don't we?!? Did the "camp" of BATMAN (which it aired opposite of on Wednesday nights) have any influence the shows silly direction? Only the "Powers That Be" know the answer to that! And yet, LIS did have several episodes throughout it's three year run that made for Top-Notch viewing. I will always feel the Dr. Smith character should have retained his dark persona, as portrayed in the early episodes, not the bumbling comic foil he eventually became. The "Robot" should also have been allowed to keep a somewhat menacing... if not slightly toned down... "edge" to his character. It's too bad that by the time the third season had started, LIS was already locked into "comedy" mode, because the concept of the Robinson Family spending less time stranded on one planet per season was a goo... I think I was about ten years old when this show had its debut, which, looking back, was probably the perfect age to really enjoy it to its maximum potential. I was a fan for about the first two years and that was largely due to a big crush I had on child actor Billy Mumy. What started out as a space age version of Swiss Family Robinson soon became the weekly antics and adventures of Will Robinson, Dr. Smith and the Robot. The other players soon became little more than props - which would have been exactly the selfish direction I personally would have chosen had I been writing the scripts. The show stayed pretty consistently entertaining until the end when the family started landing on planets with walking, talking carrots and celery sticks or something. That finally lost even me. But, like childhood, it was fun while it lasted. Dr. Smith and Will were the show, but were we naive' in the 60's or what Dr. Smith was such a flamer!

Even though Robbie The Robot was such a great toy to play with, this show was a total loss.

The series started out fine,then took a dive into cartoon territory,(looney tunes?).The producers picked Gene Roddenberry's brain(pre Star Trek), for this one.He thought they were interested in Star Trek,but they just wanted technical information,and this is the result.The pits,and not even funny.The Dr.Smith character was another "Gilligan",a murder waiting to happen!

Good goofy fun

Once Dr. Smith, Will and the Robot took center stage, it was huge fun. Jonathan Harris chews scenery better than anyone. A hoot!
