Fri Dec 11 2009I've adopted not one, but two chihuahuas from LFFR/Maria. Both times I have had nothing but a pleasant experience. Both of my dogs were happy, healthy, and clean when I arrived to pick them up. I had a similar experience as someone else that reviewed. I had my heart set on a yorkie. Maria suggested my Chihuahua, Selena, instead, due to my husband and I's work schedule. She knew this because she takes the time to screen adopters. We were required to produce pictures of our house, yard, etc. so that she knows where her dogs are going and if they will be well taken care of. Doesn't sound like someone who os only in it for the money. This is a woman who cares about animals. (She has dedicated her entire home to accommodate these rescues. I did not pay 650 for my little girls, but 350. Reasonable enough, since they had been spayed, vaccinated, had tooth extractions, etc. And she provided me with the reports for the vet. So there is no doubt in my mind that the negative reviews are bogus, or... Read more

Wed Nov 18 2009By the tone of your post (from vettech101), I’m not sure if you are a “vet tech” or just another post by this person that seems to have a vendetta. As a real vet tech, I find this post offensive. A true vet tech is one that has an education in veterinary technology. However, anyone working in a vet clinic knows that a pet can be fine one day (harboring a disease) and the next day come down sick with something. This is true with puppies and babies.. This is why the doctor in a human hospital makes sure that the pediatrician appt is set up in 1-2 days after the baby is discharged. Sounds like the new pet owner did the correct thing, he or she had a vet appt set up to immediately check the health status of his new puppy. No one can guarantee that a puppy is 100% healthy, especially one that comes from rescue (these pups come from Missouri mills). Maria will tell you to keep your pup away from doggie parks, Petco, etc, they have fragile immune systems. She never told me and I have never h... Read more

Mon Oct 05 2009I started my search at the Bergen County Animal Shelter and ended up finding Little Forgotten Friends Rescue from Pet Finder. I had seen a dog that looked like my childhood dog on the site. He was already adopted but I kept searching and eventually found my little friend Clyde. Maria was very sweet and dedicated to all of the animals. She truly has the animals best interest at heart. No dogs are caged. They have a huge doggy run for plenty of fresh air. The place is clean. The website is addicting! I am still in contact with the rescue through the website. I plan on volunteering there because I think it is a great place!

Thu Oct 01 2009We met Maria many years ago. She was a beautiful lady with a wonderful personality and a big heart. Even back then, she was helping find homes for dogs and taking in dogs people could not care for. Okay, now flash forward to the present, we found her on Facebook as someone else’s friend. She was telling us about the new miniature horses she was getting. Finally she put up pictures of the adorable equines. I poked around the LFFRescue site and found “Barney”. Barney is a Maltese/Bishon Frise mix. We have a 15 year old Maltese and we have always loved her personality. I always told Vanda, I wanted to wait a couple of years after she passed before we should get another pet, then I showed her Barney and told her “No Way”. I couldn’t stop thinking about him. Somehow, I kept thinking how happy he was going to make our home. When I got home from work, Vanda told me, “I want Barney”, “Me, too.” Maria’s rescues go fast, so if you see one you like, make your move, Fast! We wrote Maria wish... Read more

Sun Aug 30 2009We got our newest puppy, Luna, from Little Forgotten Friends Rescue and had an amazing experience. At first I thought the $650 adoption fee was steep but when i saw where the money was going to (mostly senior dogs with severe disabilities who will never be adopted), I had no problem paying AND I will donate in the future. Dogs are extremely expensive and Maria gives these dogs the best food and homeopathic care, not to mention free roam/no cages. What people don't realize is that almost ALL puppies come from puppy mills unless they are from private breeders or strays. Buying from a puppy store only creates more damaged puppies from puppy mills who are usually inbred and treated terribly. Maria is rescuing puppies from puppy mills and kill shelters. But when she gets them, she gives them so much love and special attention that she can properly place the right dog with the right family according to the dog's personality or special needs. We were originally interested in a beautifu... Read more

Sat Aug 29 2009I adopted a puppy from this rescue. I Started my search at the Bergen County Animal Shelter, and came across Little Forgotten Friends Rescue through Petfinder.com. I had a great experience from the very beginning. I felt that Maria (lady who runs the rescue) truly had the animals BEST intrest at heart. Being an experienced dog owner/rescuer and former foster for other rescues and breeders in the past I have to say that this rescue will continue to help or guide you even after you adopt a pet. I personally learned a lot just in the short time I spent with Maria while I was adopting my new dog. While I went through the adoption process (questions & application) we need to remember that this is a RESCUE. It is all about what is best for the DOGS!! In my experience I think she just wants a good safe home for these dogs. My dog is healthy and very well adjusted and I think some of that is because the dog is not couped up in a pen. The dog was running around on a farm - I think that mak... Read more

Sat Aug 08 2009We adopted a fabulous puppy 8-3 who is completely healthy. Maria called me Tuesday to check up on him and we talked for 15 minutes. She was not hiding from me. I witnessed Maria convince a woman not to adopt a puppy based on her young sons infatuation, but wait for puppy that would be the right puppy for their family. I could see what Maria was telling her and commend her for helping that family make the right decision. Our next dog, probably my parents next dog too, will come Little Forgotten Friends.

Mon Jul 27 2009This place is a complete scam. I was told my puppy was completely healthy and had his vaccines. The reality is that my puppy had pneumonia, ear mites, parasites, and was anemic. It saddens me that anyone would treat animals so horribly. In addition, call themselves a rescue and charge $650 in CASH! This is extremelllllyyy suspcisous. If I didn't get my puppy, he would be dead by now. Thiis is def. not a rescue, all the woman who runs it cares about it moneyyy! She refuses to tell you where the puppies come from. This place is horrible, stayyyy away!!!! BTW, I'm not surprised, the wrong address is listed as usual. It's located on 65 Ridge Drive and that's not the correct telephone number. This place never gives you the correct address until you put a non-refundable deposit on a puppy..

Mon Jul 27 2009Our dog that came from forgotten friends was suposed to be fixed. He was advertised as fixed. That was suposed to be included in the price of $650. Turns out that he wasnt fixed at all! its a good thing our vet caught it or else he could have been making more puppies! What kind of a rescue encourages that type of thing? They have so many dogs they can't even keep track of who is fixed and who isnt! anyhow, we were not going to get in the car and drive all the way back-that is a lot of gas money from where we are- so we had to pay to get the dog fixed again, because the rescue lady forgot to do it! That is an extra $200 making the total bill for our rescue $850. A lot of money for a mutt from rescue!

Sun Jul 26 2009I adopted my dog Montana from Maria 3 years ago. She was 7wks old & from Brooklyn Animal Shelter if I recall correctly where she had contracted or arrived initially with "Kennel Cough". I was fully aware of it and Maria gave me meds (Orbax) that she was given from the shelter for my pup. Montana actually had developed 2 different types of severe bacterial Pneumonia that would not fully respond to the Orbax, without an Endotracheal Wash (BIG $$$) and other testing there was no way of knowing this, all symptoms did initially point to your standard "Kennel Cough" my OWN vet attested to this. Maria and I were in contact about it daily and SHE DID refund me the adoption fees, even though it says no refunds in the contract we BOTH signed! I didn't even ask for it, she just gave it back to me on her own accord! She also continued to be there for moral support through the process. Montana was clean and well fed for a sick pup otherwise. To my understanding LFFR is mostly dogs at a "disadvantag... Read more

Sun Jul 26 2009I work at a vet hospital and one of our clients bought a puppy from this rescue for $650. They had made an appointment in advance, so they brought the puppy straight from the puppy to our vet. The puppy was really sick and had parasites, giardia, coccidia and roundworm. The puppy also had pneumonia. We see a lot of rescue dogs in our vets office and we were all shocked at the condition of this tiny puppy that could not have been more than 8 weeks old. Furthermore, the puppy smelled horrible and was covered in feces. The vet bill to cure this puppy was over $2000 and the dog needed to be hospitalized. From what the client told us during follow ups, the owner of the rescue showed no sympathy for either the puppy or what the owners had gone through. Sounds more like a puppymill than a rescue!
