Ooo, I don't know... my favorite contributor at Duffelblog likes it. "Paul is a former Marine grunt with eight years of experience -- specializing in snapping necks and cashing checks. He enjoys blowing things up, making people laugh, and hardcore gangster rap music." http://www.duffelblog.com/author/paul/

It's a much better indication of bad taste than class. Maybe things have changed in the last 15 years or so, but when I was in high school, rap was the favorite music of many middle to upper middle class white kids attending private schools.

May show poor taste, but the people who make it are getting PAID,and I bet they listen to it...

I thought this just meant you had really bad taste...which, the last time I noticed, had very little to do with finances.

What? Rap is heard far more often these days coming from the stereo of an expensive sports car or SUV made in Asia, with a private-school undergrad at the wheel, than from a lower- or working-class person's pickup ...

I know people who listen to gangsta rap and they're very successful individuals.

I heard kiddies from Brophy (one of Phoenix's Catholic preparetory schools) spinning Eminem and Snoop Dogg in their Beemer that mom bought them for their last birthday.

Gansta Rap sells in the hundreds of millions every year, and it aint the low classes who are out paying for the records. It may be the lower classes acting as though the lyrics are articles of faith to live by and subsequently acting out... but that would have nothing to do with the music itself.

I think this needs to be refined. If the person is listening to really fresh, really bad, loud gangta rap, they are probably ghetto. When I mean fresh, I mean stuff the white kids aren't listening too that usually is too ghetto for them to understand. None of that Eminem or Luda bull. I mean music from Jermaine Dupree, The Roots, Dem Franchise Boyz, stuff like that, and god knows, stuff I haven't heard yet.

I know white middle class kids are into this early, but the smart ones and the more affluent ones grow out of it. This boils down to the remains.

Totally true. zuchinibut...Its my observation that less and less kids like you mentioned are doing so. Were Not rich but my daughter and her crowd are completly over gangst rap, never did like it....in fact they say its flat offensive. (actually the term they used is Stupid and angry, kids can be so enlightening sometimes) There gonna be allright ya know.
