Well, we're all going to be seeing a lot of this, especially since it's nearing election time.  Interesting to watch, but only from a distance.  When the mud slings, I don't want any of it landing on me!

It's political peace POV time: Liberals: They want to shut us up. Conservatives: Hippies!

Yay! The two sides of the political landscape yelling across the fence, slinging mud everywhere and getting nothing done about anything...

The history of liberalism and conservatism is based on the history of beer and the wheel. In the dawn of time, humans existed in the mountains and hills and killed deer and other animals. In the winter they went to the coast and caught fish, lobster and other such delicacies. Then came the momentous invention of the wheel and the invention of beer. The wheel was invented to get men to the beer. Ironically these two inventions divided men into liberals and conservaties. The invention of beer required grain and that required agriculture. People started farming. As you know, neither the glass bottle or aluminum can was yet invented, so people had to sit around close to the brewery and wait for those inventions. That was how villages, later towns and cities got started. Many of the men tracked down animals to barbeque at night so they would have something to eat with their beer. This was the true beginning of the conservative movement. Others were weaker, not very... Read more

This one is going to drive us into some very horrible event sooner or later. Even though I leen a little more to the left, I am quick to correct either side when something they say is really stupid. This needs to stop if we ever want to get anywhere as a country. It is probably stronger now than it has ever been, AND THAT IS BAD!

Great rivalry, though it's not a rivlary, in the true sense of the word. This is more of an ideological clash. Conservatives (basically) believe that the role of government (at each, unique level) should be limited in authority to those areas specifically ceded to it by the governed. Liberals believe in the constant expansion of the role of government through a more liberal interprtetation of its mandate. Conservatives like this statement, liberals do not. Everyone is a liberal until the government (in its altruistic, never-ending hunger for power) oversteps its bounds or takes too much money (by force) in taxes. That is why conservatives (today) tend to be in the majority on a nationwide basis. The US government (along with many state governments) has grown to an unmanageable, uncontrollable level.

I like some ideas which are considered conservative, and I like some ideas which are considered liberal. Mostly, though, I'd rather see the pros and cons of everything and be more moderate than extreme.

I for one do believe that this is a major rivalry in our country today and I also believe that if it continues, the United States will indeed become a misnomer. Our country really does need more moderates in power and while I'm perfectly happy with the President we have now and his adminstration, I know there are those who are not. That being the case, society needs to change its destructive ways-one of which is labeling people in such a adversarial manner (i.e; red states, blue states, republican, democrat, liberal, conservative...). Can't we just all go back to being Americans?

I agree with I'll Rate This; purple's a lovely color. I also wish we could see an end to the red/blue rivalry.

Liberalism today, just ain't what it used to be. Today,it generally suggests, anything goes and removing any reference to religion from public life.
