I'm hearing for the first time in my life, in reviews here on RIA, that the SC is a chick car. I guess I'm a chick, because I consider this car among the most beautiful on the road today. Simple, clean lines. Engine sounds nice. Never driven one, but I'd like to.

WTF? This isn't even a sports car, Toyota made this thing to attract Paris Hilton wannabes, the cars performances are on par with a 20K Honda Civic Si, the car's styling looks like that of a chicks car, and its way too overpriced. If you like it, your choice but your no longer considered a real guy if you drive this thing and enjoy it.

My 1992 SC400, pearl white with all the options including sunroof, front fascia rubber lip, rear spoiler, Nakamichi and chrome rather than gold trim package has been the best car I ever owned. Mine was one of the first hundred produced in fall of 1991 and had 80, 000 miles on it when I bought it and has 160,000 now. If I sound like I am proud of this car in a way I am. See this Lex is truly the one that started it all. This car won more awards than any other sports car! In a few years it will take it's place in the classic car showrooms next to the other great muscle cars from the 60's and 70's. Getting service at Lexus certainly will certainly cause sticker shock at first. But eventually you realize that the best parts rarely need replacing and anyways a good portion of the cost is because of the hustle put on you by the hustlers in the service/sales area. Great car and it is so nice not to have to be controlled by all the losers gaurding the fast lane. If I see an opening... Read more

I have driven the SC400 (Toyota Soarer GT-Limited V8, JDM version) for two years. It has to be the most stylish, ageless and understated vehicle ever. An absolute dream car. The build quality is second to none, the drive quality is superb. A masterpiece of Japanese engineering and it is FAST!

Superb car, engineered without cost restraints, 10+ years old with looks that still turn heads. This car will never be dated and to top it off has the powerplant to match! Cannot rate these cars highly enough!! (it helps that I have a JDM spec SC400 with "ALL" the toys!!!!)

What other car can you cruise all day in, do good times at the track, and turn heads with style? For me, the 4.0 GT is the pick of the bunch. With a decent exhaust, the V8 is one of the sweetest sounding muscle cars around.

I bought a 95 SC400 with 80k miles for $10,000 US. It is luxurious, powerful and has no problems except for minor instrument cluster lighting, which I have corrected. The styling is classic, my favorite look..long hooded 3-box coupe. This quad cam 32 valve V8 has 6-bolt mains and is rated in the top ten by Ward's for the 20th century. This engine with updates is still the Toyota/Lexus top V8 used. The car was overpriced a little when new... mostly because of a luxury car tariff placed on imports at the time. Getting a car like this in this kind of condition is rare. Other than high fuel costs, it's perfect for me. Mine came with a bonus.. 17 Enkei after-market wheels.

For a car costing this much I expected much better handling and reliability. NOT IMPRESSED my old 5 series BMW was a much better car!

A much mis-understood, and underated classic. The super reliable 4.0 V8 from the LS 400 dropped in a pretty body. I ask you, has any other any other production engine been recorded at 1 million miles?! I think not...

93 GT expensive to run and upkeep but certainly worth every penny. Best value luxury performance motor vehicle around. Anyone who commented otherwise is a sore loser

Possibly one of the most over rated cars out there. Overpriced and 90's jelly bean styling. Mnay other sports coupe out perform it and have the same level of luxury for much less$!!

Excellent ride and really surprisingly smooth. I have had Jags and BMW's but I was astonished to find that my 2.5 TT 1996 soarer outpaces and outdrives them all. It looks modern, sleek and certainly turns heads. Trev Lynes (UK)

Cant have these few people putting the Aston Vanquish at the top of the Pile of sports cars on just looks alone...the SC is undoubtably the best sports coupe made to date. As people have posted before, it still looks great 12 years on and there are not a lot of cars on the road that can match the ride, handling, power, luxury, and technical wizardry. Definately none that can at the same price. This car deserves to be at the top and should stay there until a better car comes along...that may be the Aston, but it should be decided on the car as a package - not on looks alone

This car is the most under rated thing to come roaring out of Japan. Maybe its not known as one of the true supercars, but in my opinion, it has the lot. I have the 2.5TT.. power, looks and total Toyota reliability. A wolf in sheep's clothing for sure.

I've owned Benzes,GTO's,Z28's and other fast cars but none of them compare to the SC400. I average 25mpg with a few modes it is very fast. As far as maintenance it's cheapest car I have owned, after more than 216,000 miles and still running like new I'd say the rating should be 10stars.

I don't think I'll ever forget the day my Soarer arrived. It's unbelieveable to think that everyone I showed it to thought it was brand new. What other 8 year old car could do that? I always challenge people to look at the cars of 1994, or even back to the very early 90's when this model was released. Does a 1991 Merc or BMW turn heads. No. Does a Soarer. Oh yes. This car is totally unrivalled. No other manufacturer can offer the bullet proof Toyota reliability, world class luxury, looks to kill and amazing power. My 3L 6 out performs all the other cars I've driven, including the V8 BMW 540i and Commodore SS V8. My first car was a Soarer - my last car will be a Soarer.

This car is by fare one of the best ever built. If you dont agree, then you have never been in one. Quiet on the inside, nice V8 note on the outside and great options that would out do any other.

Since buying a 4 litre V8 Limited GT with all the gubbins as well, I can honestly say that evan now with the new SC430, that it does not have as much as what the SC400 had or has now. It is still ahead of its time now, and faster than quite a few Porsche's and certain Ferrari's and several other makes of supercars.(That is when it is unlimited like mine - it can reach 174mph - no km on my dash). It is the best car I have ever had and gets 11 out of 10 for quality, performance and reliability. The Japs do make a far superior product than the rest of the world (with exceptions to certain British manufacturers)

Is this a good car? Yeah Its a very good car. But to be number one in sports cars, cmon gimme a break. This should be number one in luxury sports cars. This is so over rated its not even funny.

Actually, 5 and a half stars. Luxurious, smooth, quiet, powerful, beautiful, incredibly reliable, sexy, expensive looking. Certainly not a little boy's racer toy. Sorry, but the build quality is better than Mercedes, BMW, Nissan, Mazda, etc. There are a number of faster cars that are cheaply built, and many pricier ones that aren't nearly as well made. It makes you feel like Mr. Shogun when you're driving around!

What can I say. I picked up a 1992 Sandstone Metallic Colored SC400 with 63K miles on it for 15K. It is a steal. This is in a class of sports car above the rest. The design has been tested over time. Nothing for the money can even come close to this one. Quiet, powerful, sleek, and beautiful. It is no accident this one is the one to have for Sport's Luxury.

I have just bought a 91' Lexus Soarer 2.5 GT-T (upgraded version!) - WOW!!!!! my last car was a R reg Scorpio Cosworth which i thought (at the time!) was 'fast!' but after trading the car in for an older model (by 8 years!) i now realise the true meaning of 'speed!!' 0-60 in 4.5 secs - again - WOW!!!

For a design nearing 10 years old, it still turns heads like a new car. I've got a Soarer GT and it absolutely mauls the competition. Stock for stock, a Soarer GT (Twin Turbo) will kill a 300ZX over the quarter. The only REAL competition now are Skylines and real sports cars...

Not quite sure how this rated so high. Nice car, certainly comfortable and luxurious for a sports coupe, but not a patch on the humble Toyota (brand) Supra or Nissan 300ZX. Nowhere near a Nissan GTR.

A better ride than my last car (Audi A8), fast enough to please, AND handles. Plus (not important to everyone, I'll admit) it takes my 5 and 3 year olds, wife and luggage for weekends away. Looks great, too. Best compromise on looks/ handling 17".
