Sun Jul 20 2008In Short Enjoy the royal treatment at this elegant eatery, located in the luxurious Halekulani Hotel. Diners take in stunning views of Diamond Head while indulging in classic French cuisine. The whispering sway of palm trees in the open-air dining room complements the formal atmosphere, but the vibe is anything but pretentious. The menu features classic French dishes infused with local island flavor (Big Island lobster poached in butter and herbs, roasted duck breast and thigh confit, rack of lamb with a mustard crust, and a filet of Kobe-style beef). A top-notch wine list has the perfect offering for any entree.

Sun May 18 2008By far, the most expernsive and the best meal of our tip. You choose if you want 3, 4 or 5 course meals. You begin with a glass of Champagne (Lanson) and a tidbit (we had a small popover filled with a salmon moose.) We had an assortment of appetizers ($$ extra). My wife had the crispy skinned Onaga while I had the bouillabase. For dessert we had a banana souffle. Each and every dish was spot on. Worth every penny. For the 2 of us with a bottle of wine the bill was over $390 with tip) I only wish the wine list had more Alsatian wines.

Fri Jun 17 2005After having been disappointed on previous trips to Hawaii with the general poor quality and high price of the supposedly top restaurants, La Mer was a wonderful surprise. The meal (a four course tasting) was simply exquisite. The service, ambiance, and view were similarly superior. In fact, the restaurant compares favorably with the best in New York, London and San Francisco. A must-visit when in Oahu.

Mon Jun 06 2005It stands out as the most International restaurant in the Islands. It has it all. The dressiest restaurant in Hawaii too.

Mon Feb 14 2005If you want to have a pampered dining experience with amazing food, then I recommend Le Mer. Though of course the price reflects its high star rating, the food is absolutely amazing and service superb. It's a great reason to wear that formal dress you have gathering dust in your closet, and surprisingly for a French restaurant I didn't leave still feeling hungry! But I'd recommend getting dining with a view, because it's the only seating that's worth the price.

Tue Jul 01 2003Just visited La Mer on 28th and was stunned by the attention to detail, service and quality. We decided to have their 9 course tasting menu at a set fee of 125 ea. and it was well worth double that. A true once in a lifetime dining experience!

Wed Apr 30 2003What an experience! The service is impeccable, the food glorious and the atmosphere....you feel as if you're in a dream. If you're willing to spend some money on indulgence, this is the place to do it. If you're a gourmand and enjoy food, this is one experience that you won't want to pass up. Bon apetit!

Sat Apr 26 2003Anytime you can sip on a frosty hawaiin drink and gaze upon a former miss hawaii doing the hula to a back drop of excellent Don ho types, you're in for a good time. Although you don't really get to see the sunset as some may say, the ambiance, pupus, drinks and service is outstanding. Definitely a must see, must eat, and must drink kind of place when visiting hawaii.

Thu Nov 28 2002I highly recommend this restaurant. I was visiting, heard from friends this was a good place after a desperate search for some good food in Honolulu. Make sure and visit this place. Excellent Mai Tai's - I am not a huge Mai Tai fan, but this is good. Great sandwiches, service and views. And you MUST get the coconut cake! I am giving this a 10 to move it up in the ranking, because it is so much better than any of the other places rated here.
