This is very difficult to do and I wish I could erase all those bad thoughts.

I'm not even going to try to say that this is an easy task to do, but if we don't at least try, it will eat us alive, and life is too short for that.

My past is a so important part of me, my present is a consequence of my past, so I can't let go of the past. My past is present in my present, for the good and for the bad things. That doesn't signify that I live in the past (or maybe I do and I  don't know it), for me it only signify that my actual situation is like it is because of my past, if I let go of the past I think that I'm loosing a part of my present.

Letting go is always difficult especially when you need to move past whatever it is that you need to let go of....whew...anyways, learning from mistakes is part of growth so dwelling on the past is OK for awhile then we have to move on to keep our sanity.

The past is the foundation of what and who we are today. we can never totally let the past go, we cannot simply delete from our memories the good and bad things that happened to us or we did. But meditating on the past gives us a reference point which can lead us to become better people.

For me,it's hard to let go off certain things in my past, and not all bad things either, for the most part I have, then something will happen I will hear a song,or someone will say something to me about a certain thing,or I will have a dream and it will remind me of certain things, the older i get I find it easier to let go off things.

If by this you mean forgiving, then it is quite hard. I have 'forgiven' a number of people to their faces, and act normal around them, but I never quite see them in the same way inside. In a sense, they aren't really forgiven at all.

It is easier to let go of the past if you have the option of taking a pottery class, any class, or getting a wonderful job, or getting a new car.  That would help anyone feel liberated!  It's a lot harder, even if God was with you on this, to let go of the past when you are extremely poor, on welfare, no job, no classes, and feel like you've got no hope.  Poverty makes everything difficult because you have no options besides work you hate.  The trick is to find hope.  Look at what you need when you're in the worst situation possible.  A young lady told me that when her parents argue, she thinks about eagles.  "They just fly above it all." How do you find hope?  It's such an individual question.

this is very difficult. i ended a 24 year marriage last year and i thought the pain and the feelings of betrayal would ever go away. i was wrong i have never been happier in 40 years than i am today and i can look at my past as the road that got me here to this place i am today and it was all worth it.

I admit this can haunt you for awhile. Each and every one of us has issues with the past and things we wish we would have done differently. That said, it is vital to our mental health that we come to terms with the fact that nothing in the past can be altered. Instinctually we learn from the past, so intellectually we must plan for the future. Forget the past. Forget it. Forget.

Its hard to let go of the past unless you some how have selective memory and you can just block things out. This usually leads to years of threapy so what can you do. You can forgive but it is pretty dam hard to forget.

Letting go of your past can be very difficult even when you have received forgiveness from someone that you have offended. Forgiving yourself is often the most challenging part of letting go. God as you know forgives and forgets. Other people can forgive you and then often can let it go. But to forgive yourself forces you to trust someone who you know will never forget, yourself. We doubt in our minds how anyone could forgive us when we can't forgive ourselves, how they could love us again and how they could ever trust us again. The thing we forget though is that we are all alike. We all make mistakes. We all fail and we all need forgiveness.
