He's surprisingly good. At times you can tell he's very serious about whatever he's doing because the veins in his forehead stand up, and that's what good acting is.

Leo (I call him Leo) is the real deal and takes his job very seriously. Excellent in Departed, Aviator, and Blood Diamond. Very good in Inception, Shutter Island, Body of Lies, and Catch Me If You Can. I'm not sure how he was in Titanic because I'm too manly to watch that movie. Good to see (on imdb.com) that he has a lot of stuff "in development."

I was very impressed when I saw him in What's Eating Gilbert Grape but shortly after that wrote him off as a boring teen heart throb. I couldn't have been more wrong as it turns out. He's been a particularly effective muse for Martin Scorscese in the last decade.

Leo was good before, then sucked when he was The Titanic Guy, now he's great and his IMDB page says he's incredibly busy now.

I think his role in "The Departed" really showcased how good this guy can be. Very dynamic and charismatic actor....

Gets a 4 because I'm still a little unsure on him. The first time I saw him was Titanic, which is a grossly overrated and as a result didn't think much of his acting. More recently seeing him in Gangs of New York, the Departed and other great movies I'm rethinking my first thoughts about him. I've been trying to remember if he was actually bad in Titanic or whether the movie was so bad it made him look bad. Is stepping away from the pretty boy roles and in doing so is showing greatness.

An average actor but great at picking movies with amazing directors. In term of looks - never understood his appeal as a teenager, still don't.

Leonard and I got off on the wrong foot when he was the heart throb in that monstrous chick flick, "Titanic." I was still reeling from "Titanic" and didn't give him much of a chance in "Catch Me If you Can." Lately he has been grown on me with some of his appearances in such as "Gangs of New York" and "Blood Diamond." I bumped him to a four. Believe me in "Titanic" days he would have ranked a deuce.

There is NO WAY anyone who knows anything about the craft of acting and has seen What's Eating Gilbert Grape, This Boy's Life, The Aviator, The Basketball Diaries, Marvin's Room, Catch Me If You Can, The Departed, Blood Diamond, Celebrity, and Total Eclipse could deny his brilliant talent as an actor, a talent that has displayed raw authentic emotion, versatility, emotional range, humanity, power and subtely all at once. He is phenomenal. The only people that dog on him are young boys who are hung up on hype from Titanic -- that he had no control over mind you. You want to know something? He didn't even want to make Titanic, he didn't like script and the character was boring to him but Kate Winslet BEGGED him to do it, they are very good friends and she wanted to make the film badly but with him only. So he RELUCTANTLY gave in to please her and try something new. This has come back to haunt him in a way... If he had gone with his original opinion not to make the film he would be gettin... One of the best actors around today who became one of the biggest stars ever in 1997 after starring in the highest grossing film of all time Titanic. In later years he has had many memorable roles in films such as The Aviator and Gangs Of New York and continues to prove he is one of the most talented actors in the world today.

Here's a young man who has improved tremendously. He gets better and better. I see a progression of improvement from his early roles, like Titanic, to subsequent films, like Catch Me If You Can, to his latest, such as Blood Diamond and The Departed. He's still young, has a lot of talent, and is learning how to be a better actor with each film he makes.

I don't think Leo Dicaprio is overrated at all. You only have to look at his early work "This Boy's Life", "The Basketball Diaries" and "Romeo and Juliet" to see there's talent there. "Titanic" didn't showcase his talent at all if anything it gave him his big break, box office success and world-wide appeal. You look at the movies after "The Beach" - "Gangs of New York", "The Aviator" and "Catch Me if You Can" and he prooved hes not one of these pretty boy wooden actors, but an extremely talented young man.

I would dispute that he's gotten better since Titanic. One only need watch "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?" (when he was much younger) to see that there has always been talent there. As with everyone else on this list he should be judged by his performances.. not by his movies.

Leo has proved time and time again, that he is an amazing actor. He shows talent in almost all of his roles. What's Eating Gilbert Grape was fantastic. Alongside Johnny Depp, they made the movie worth watching. Catch Me If You Can was probably my favorite performance, because it was a well played character, and a well written movie with a good story to it. Titanic was also good.

His acting in Titanic was awful, but I think he suited the role. I didn't mind him in the movie, but I still think his acting was terrible. He played Frank Abignale in Catch Me If You Can very well. I was surprised that he did that good of a job. However, everything else he's done has been terrible performances. The only reason I keep from giving him 5 stars is because of Catch Me If You Can.

Another actor ROBBED of an Oscar. I work with children who are mildly mentally retarded. When I saw "What's Eating Gilbert Grape", I did not know who Leo was. I thought to myself, "Wow. This is awesome. They were able to teach an MMR boy how to act. They probably had to film one line at a time..." I was just blown away that someone MMR could act so well. And then I found out the Leo was NOT MMR but was just acting. Extremely realistic. Plus he's another hottie that I wouldn't mind getting to know...

If you read about me, you'd know I love history. So does he. He's very cute. Although if he was in my league, sorry he's not my type. Titanic is the bomb. Leo blew all actors away in that role. If not for his Brazilian girlfriend and some of his junk roles, Leo would have gotten a five star from me. Rock on!!!!!!!

Just two stars, because I DON'T think he is overrated. His performance in Titanic was outstanding and I'm surprised he hasn't received much praise for it. However, he can't do any better than the mateial he has to work with. My wife & I went out last night to see The Aviator. It was Valentine's Day. The movie was a disappointment. The real life story of Howard Hughes is exciting, but this movie wasn't even accurate, and despite his acting skills, there's no way that Leonardo DiCaprio can make his voice sound remotely like Howard Hughes. Also, there was a woman who played a young Katherine Hepburn, and her portrayal was so bad that it was embarassing - more like a cartoon parody than serious role-playing. However, I did get to snuggle up close to my wife in the theatre, so the movie (which was about 2 1/2 hours long) was worth it all just for that.

Titanic is simultaneously the best and worst things to have happened to this actor: it brought him TEMENDOUS fame, money, but it diminished public perception of his talent, and can typecast him if he does not consciously try hard. I cannot understand how anyone can see The basketball diaries, What's eating gilbert grape, gangs of new york, romeo and juliet... and not claim to be seeing a terrific avctor. What exactly does he do as an actor that is flawed? The whole rating system is moronic anyway. His is ridiculously polar: some hate or love him. It is not representative of his actual talent. This is an inverted bell-curve. Vote with your heads.

Leonardo DiCaprio has tremendous potential. His performance in What's Eating Gilbert Grape was simply brilliant. While certainly nothing special, his performance in Titanic was satisfying. More recently, he turned in a solid performance in the quirky drama/comedy Catch Me if You Can opposite Tom Hanks. While Leo has made some mistakes in his career (i.e. The Beach), he is a fine actor who when fully committed can outperform all those around him.

I think Leonardo diCaprio has some talent, so I don't think he is overrated. I did not care for him in Titanic, but that was a pretty silly movie, so he did not have much to work with. I thought he was great in What's Eating Gilbert Grape? He and Johnny Depp were a good team in that movie, and I wish they would work together again. He was a rather quirky Romeo and Romeo and Juliet, and I also enjoyed him in Catch Me if You Can. I understand he's working on a movie about Howard Hughes, and I am looking forward to seeing his interpetation of that eccentric icon.

I think most people consider him overrated because of his popularity with the ladies and the rampant success of Titanic. However I find him to be a very good actor. It's true he's had some flops like The Beach but by a vast majority, they've been top-notch films. His performances of late in Catch Me If You Can and Gangs of New York have been quite good, proving his knack for historical material. I personally was impressed with his portrayal of Romeo in Baz Luhrman's Romeo and Juliet a few years back.

Faggy dwarfy talentless little shrimp whose sole appeal is to prepubescent teenboppers who aren't threatened by his sexual aura, which is, by the way, nonexistent. Amazing they can make a star out of such a zero, but it appears he's already reached his zenith and is on the way down. Disposable celebrity for a disposable American popular culture.
