There were quite a few. Some were just good, and some were freaking awesome. Usually the ones that make me think more are the ones I like most. My last few good ones were Gentleman's Agreement, Sunset Boulevard, Wall-E, Pan's Labyrinth, The Pianist, The Painted Veil. I believe all of them have some sort of effect on how I think from the point forward.

Recently watched Flash of Genius on DVD over at a friend's house about the guy who invented the intermittent windshield wiper and had the patent violated by Ford. I was expecting a pretty awful film based on the casting of Greg Kinnear (I'm not a huge fan) and was actually pleasantly surprised. It wasn't Citizen Kane by a long shot, but a good story effectively played out.

Slumdog Millionaire... I was very skeptical (best picture??? wtf?), but it really is a very good film. It's hard to say too much about it without giving a lot away, but the performances were good and it was impeccably shot. And the story really draws you in and carries it along. I also watched The Boy in the Striped Pajamas last night which was another one of those, tug at your heartstrings. Not as well done overall as The Counterfeiters and lacking that same depth or drama, but a good story on its own.

Bon Cop Bad Cop - A Canadian film, half of it in Ontario and half in Quebec. Amazingly funny, dramatic, and just plain awesome. Half French, half English.

As a newbie to Netflix, I have been renting pretty much every movie that comes out. I love that you can watch anything you want without ever having to go to the video store. Last week, The Express was in our mailbox. I was excited to see it as I generally like the sports/drama movies (Remember the Titans, Coach Carter, etc)...I have to say, I loved it more than anything I have seen lately. It was a true story of one of the first black players in football, and his struggle with teammates, society and even coaches. Dennis Quaid broke my heart as the grisly, no-nonsense coach with a weakspot. I gasped, I sat on the edge of my seat biting my nails and in the end, I CRIIIIIIIIIED. Oh my goodness, the cinematography was actually strikingly beautiful for a sports movie and the young actor who played Ernie Davis was absolutely fabulous. Its a shame movies like this do not win more awards...the acting was phenomenal, believable and understated in a brilliant way. RENT THIS TODAY!

I recommend Fireproof with Kirk Cameron. Gives a lot of food for thought.

The Masachist last night with Christian Bale.  Absolutely fantastic.  I found it interesting that one single event changed the course of someone's life for the worst.  By him just being honest and facing his responsibility he was able to get his life back on track again.  I'm not really a die hard movie fan, more a live theatre fan, I love plays and the spontaniety that live theatre offers.

"Dangerous Beauty". It's not a new movie, but it's one of the best I've ever seen. The dialogue alone was enough. This movie has so much passion and strength that it is inspirational. I can re-watch it anytime!

I love going to the movies, but don't get as much of a chance to go as I used to. I saw Batman Begins Monday, and I have to say it's very good. If you are a fan of the comic book you'll really like it. It starts out REALLY slow, but once things get going it's very entertaining. Even the slow part has a point as it goes deeper into the charecter and explains why he does what he does, rather than just sticking a rich guy in a rubber suit and giving him a bunch of expensive toys.

There is not a movie theatre where I live so if I see a movie it has to have been already released. I rented the film, Raise the Red Lantern a couple of weeks ago; it is a foreign film that is set in the 12920s. It gives a brief glimpse into the life of a wealthy Chinese household and a young girl who has been sent there to become a concubine to the master of the house. The scenes are beautifully filmed and acted, definitely a film that was poignant and moving.

I went to go and see 'Closer' with a friend. Thoroughly enjoyed it. A bit too short for my liking but the narrative and plot was simple and very touching.

I saw Coach Carter in the theatres, oh what was it, three weeks ago? I can't remember, but it was a good movie that had a powerful message. Plus, Samuel L. Jackson is one of my favorite actors.

Heh, I watched Ong Bok: The Thai Warrior last night. Oscar-worthy it is not, but hell if it wasn't entertaining! This isn't one of those artsy new kung fu flicks where people are prancing on top of bamboo forests and stuff, this is some hard-core, butt-whooping stuff, and it was fun to watch.
