Mon Sep 28 2009I just got off the phone with billing because (apparently) I was just charged again for another month of membership when I have been trying to cancel it! See, they have this policy where, if you want to cancel, you have to LOG into your account online, PRINT out a cancellation form, STAMP it, and MAIL it in. You must do this 10-20 days before you want to cancel!! It's not even like you have to fill out anything on the form. They just do this so that they can keep charging you while this form gets lost in the mail. So naturally, I decide that I want to cancel my membership, but have to pay for another month because my billing cycle was coming up and I didn't "mail" the form in yet. Then I mail it in and see that I am charged AGAIN the next month! When I called them, I explained that I sent the cancellation form weeks ago. They asked if I had "proof of mailing"? As if I'd send a piece of paper certified mail. They refused to refund the charges, even though I haven' been there i... Read more

Wed Jun 03 2009Anyone thinking about joining the LA Fitness in York, PA beware!!!!! Their business practices are very deceptive. They rope you in with attractive offers and tell you that you can cancel your membership at any time, but when you really need to cancel the story changes. They pull the "bait and switch" where they offer you one price and a set of conditions but when you go to sign the contract the price is a lot more and the conditions are much more limiting. So be careful of what you are signing and by no means trust them when they say to you "trust me, I was given permission by my boss to give you this great deal today, but its only for today so you have to jump on it quickly." It’s all a lie and you will be screwed!!! The trainers are inexperienced, and their turnover rate is high, so if you've purchased a personal training package, don't expect to see the same trainer much of the time. Don't expect that the personal training package you purchased will be tailored to your needs s... Read more

Tue Aug 19 2008All they try to do is sell you on new training packages and new services. I felt harassed and couldn't trust their advice because most of it was made in order to sell you.

Sat Aug 16 2008The place is alright, but proper etiquette is neither posted nor enforced so it makes for tricky negotiations with people who don't know common courtesy. The staff are pretty lame - not much better than grocery store check out clerks. Just keep in mind, if you join and then want to cancel make sure you track your cancellation letter (or they'll deny receiving it). And I have no idea how their average rating is so high here given the reviews!

Thu Feb 28 2008At first I thought the gym was ALL RIGHT...big enough, with lots of equipment...until I met the staff and actually started to use the equipment did I realize how awful this place is. First of all, my trainer was horrible. He couldn't wait for our 20 minute set was up so he could spend 40 minutes to guilt trip me into buying more of his lousy sessions. Then, the sales manager called me up AT HOME making FALSE claims that I owed money and was in danger of having my account reported to the credit bureau. Then she continued to lie and say that my automatic bank withdrawals were never made. Intrigued and highly concerned at this point I went on to speak with the billing department who then told me, my payments have all been withdrawn from my account at the right times, and basically, Gail, the sales manager, LIED so she could get her commission faster. Who does that?? And with dated equipment that are always occupied, and other equipment with repair signs on it, who needs to exercise at suc... Read more

Thu Aug 23 2007LA FITNESS in Hollywood is the worst gym ever with the sales staff. All they ever care about is their commission. The sales staff is rude, deceiving, pushy and hypocritical. I am a member who is in the process of canceling my membership and till this day all La Fitness cares about is money, they don't care about your health or happiness. I feel bad for the front desk people who have to deal with the angry members who have been lied to by the sales staff. I can honestly say that the most hypocritical person i have met in my life is a sales manager in Hollywood blvd. She goes by CK, a late 30s asian women with fake breast who dress very promiscuous. I promise by all the heavens above i am not lying. She wears unappropriated heels and hussy dress,(blue, red and leopard print) she seems so nice and is always giving high fives to anybody. She seems to nice, yet don't let her fake smile fool you, she will lie , cheat and steal to get you to sign up and is so pushy with her coworkers and me... Read more

Sat May 12 2007The gym is large and has a decent amount of equipment, but needs so serious help. The crew that works there is lazy, the free weights are rarely put away, the clientel is disrespectful for the most part, the equipment is only cleaned after close ( never cleaned during use of the day), the rules ( towel requirement , re-racking weights, time limits on machines ) are never enforced and the locker room ( mens ) is simply disgusting. Other than that... its really a nice gym...

Fri Apr 27 2007the place is so trashy but pretencious it makes you wanna run. the stuff is comprised of jail wardens and former addicts. the classes are basic and the teachers try to sell you their private training if you want more. there is a sweat stink and equipment that is inoperable but also doesn't get replaced. if you are an idiot who believe that just by paying membership fees they are getting the exercise they need go ahed, join and be abused.

Tue Mar 13 2007I want to warn others about our terrible experience with this company. We signed up for a gym membership and then found that not only had our card been charged the amount agreed upon, but also it was charged $144 in a separate transaction, not once, but twice. We spent many hours on the phone, talking to many different people who kept shuffling us off to other people. Many of these phone calls were long distance. All of the people we talked to were extremely rude to us (including the general manager of the chain!) even when we decided to be overly nice to them just to get someone to take care of the matter. They acted like we were trying to scam them and either refused to help us or said that it was taken care of, when in fact it wasn?t. 2 months later, we have finally decided to let go of the issue after having finally gotten one of the overcharges refunded and the other one applied as a credit, even though this ties us into the membership for an additional 4-5 months, a membe... Wed Nov 01 2006The Scene This sprawling, 65,000-square-foot facility is the second largest health club in Los Angeles, and a welcome addition to the gym scene. Members work up a sweat on high-tech cardio machines conveniently positioned in front of 18 televisions suspended from the ceiling. Other ways to break the monotony of exercise include two full-size basketball courts, a 5,000-square-foot aerobics room and a separate cycling studio. The Details Three long rows of Stairmasters, treadmills, rowing machines and elliptical trainers means there is rarely, if ever, a wait. Tone up with free weights and Freemotion state-of-the-art stationary weight machines. Trendy aerobic classes like kickbox cardio, mat Pilates and salsa offer fun and unusual ways to burn off stress and calories. Cool off afterward in the junior Olympic-sized pool.

Mon Sep 11 2006Unless you are at a beginning level and never expect to advance, this is not the gym to take exercise classes at. It once had great classes, pitched at various levels, but then they decided that EVERY class should be appropriate for beginners. As a result, everyone who was at an intermediate or advanced level did not get a good workout. Try another gym with a better policy.

Sun Jul 30 2006For the price you cant beat this gym. However you do get what you pay for. While the gym is large, there are no windows. Also, I have been in the gym when fights broke out. I repeatedly have to clean the machines as they are full of sweat. Even though a towel policy exists, it is never enforced. I have complained formally three times in writing and have never once seen someone go around checking to see if people are using towels. I would say only 10% actually carry a towel. Additionally the safety of the parking lot is questionable.

Mon Jun 19 2006Not too bad. The cardio equipment, although a lot to choose from, is constantly taken. There's lots of Nautilus equipment that takes up most of the floor space. The free wieghts area has the bare minimun for that size but not very crowded. overall, it's good but only if you get there early and not headed for the cardio equipment

Fri Apr 28 2006It is the cheapest gym in LA but for that you get Jerry Springer on the TV. Top 40 light love songs on the PA ,Classes geared toward mid-aged house wives and trainers that seem to need a trainer themselves and a sauna that barely makes you sweat. . On the upside however, it is big and uncrowded during the day and easy parking. This gym feels like it should be in a mini-mall in an Ohio suburb , not in LA.

Fri Apr 08 2005THE STAFF IS GOOD EXCEPT FOR THE PERSONAL TRAINERS. THEY SEEM TO ONLY SOLICIT BUSINESS FROM WOMEN AND IF YOU DON'T AGREE TO USE THEM THEY TALK TO YOU VERY NEGATIVELY. ONE TRAINER TOLD ME THAT I MUST NOT LOVE MYSELF!! THE FRONT DESK SEEMS TO NEVER KNOW WHERE THE TRAINERS ARE BECAUSE THEY PAGE THEM ALL OF THE TIME!! THE KICKBOXING AND BODY WORKS CLASS WITH GERI IS THE BEST!!! SHE IS ENERGETIC AND CAN PUSH YOU TO YOUR MAX AND MAKE YOU FEEL CONFIDANT.

Tue Mar 01 2005The initial "Free" Personal Training Session is a ploy to get you to try their "2 weeks unlimited training". The "unlimited" part is far from the truth. I scheduled a personal training session, only to have the trainer not show up. This happened twice. After not receiving the service, I tried to cancel the service. Not only did they not want to cancel the service, I was billed $100 every 2 weeks for the following 2 months. It took 4 months to get only a portion of that money back. Overall, a very poor experience.
