Tue Jun 10 2008Not the Greatest, but won the most exciting games. 'Ghost to the Post' was one of the Greatest Comebacks in History, and I think it was more Stabler than Madden on that day. The Snake was one of the First fast QB's, Steve Young, Jake Plummer type guys, but now we are in the era of WR/QB's or RB/QB's. The Snake won't have much metion in the Pro Football world except for his greatest Wins.

Sun Feb 12 2006Number 12 on the field, number one in our hearts. What can I say about a man who would study the playbook by the light of the jukebox? A winner on and off the field, and the only person who is truly above-the-law in Mobile and Baldwin County.

Sat Nov 12 2005I've been watching pro football for 36 years and Snake was the best passer that I've ever seen. In an era when quarterbacks called their own plays and challenged the defense by throwing the ball down the field, he was a truly a peerless field general. As a Raider fan, I was never more confident then when the team trailed by two touchdowns going into the 4th quarter and the Snake was calling the plays. He was simply money in the bank. His four touchdown fourth quater against the Saints on Monday Night Football was just one in the great many comebacks the only Stabler appeared capable of pulling off. He seemed to be able to do it every week. Why he has not been elected to the Pro Football Hall-of-Fame is one of the great mysteries and travesties of sports. A much better quarterback than Bradshaw, Griese, or Tarkenton who were all elected in their first years of eligibility. Long live the Snake!!!

Sat Jul 30 2005One of the great money quarterbacks of all time. This is not to say I think he was one of the greatest quarterbacks ever, just that he rose to the occasion in big games. Totally unflappable. One of three quarterbacks I'd want taking a snap in a big game (the others are Unitas and Montana)

Tue Mar 09 2004Stabler was the ideal quarterback for the 70's Raiders: a swashbuckler with uncanny instincts about what to do with the ball after the play started. He could put it between fingers and hands with surgical precision. Being behind by a couple of touchdowns in the fourth never disheartened him; he just reached down and pulled out another miracle from wherever he kept his stash of nerve. An unconventional master of his craft and therefore a perfect fit for Al Davis' collection of misfits and castoffs.

Tue May 27 2003The snake rocked. Everything I like in a QB. Lefty, thought outside the box, independant and liked to drink beer. We need more guys like that in the NFL. Take that Paul Tagliabue!
