Wed Mar 04 2009The question of whether or not he is over-rated basically boils down whether you think he is highly regarded as an actor to begin with. Early in his career there was talk of him possessing untapped expressive abilities and that his resume of goofy teen-comedies was not worthy of his skills as a thespian. He has had a good 15 years of increasingly better produced and directed films in which to prove himself. He remains a pretty wooden performer. As an actor Keanu has the emotive powers of a harwood floor, looks good and solid but doesn't change much.

Wed Mar 04 2009Overrated? It's hard to call someone overrated when most people already think he only deserves 1 star for his acting.

Mon Oct 16 2006I wouldn't say he's overrated or underrated- he is what he is. He was truly terrible in ' Bram Stoker's Dracula," a blight on a decent flick. Whoever had the idea of casting him as Buddha in that film should be put in a capsule and fired off in the direction of Orion's belt too. He also made a movie that I refuse to see on principle, in which he plays a white guy that condescendingly/ patronizingly comes to save a bunch of troubled, inner city black kids through the power of teaching them the joys of baseball- this is a cousin to the 43,987 films a year about a teacher making a difference. All but his most delusional teenybopper fans would probably admit that he doesn't have much skill. However, he seems like a pretty good choice for someone to call up if you should need a dimebag.

Thu Oct 12 2006Keanu Reeves is definately not overrated. I must admit, that I admire him a lot... he is unique in every aspect of his character both on and off-screen. I have done my research and I not only see Keanu the actor but I see Keanu the human. He has a genuine soul and has a deep passion for his art. He has a respect for his costars and for himself. The body of his cinematic work has encompassed a wide varity of genres. His roles are varied, studied, and executed in the most pleasant manner. I believe he will continue to succeed in his career and make the movie choices that please him personally and not the public. That my friends, can never be overrated.

Thu Apr 13 2006He's kind of nice to look at, but there is something...maybe it is his voice that annoys me. If he just stood there and never opened his mouth...I think I'd love him. I love his movies, I don't think he is a brilliant actor.

Fri Mar 31 2006He's adequate, nothing more, but has had the good fortune (or the services of a shrewd agent) to be able to snag roles in some highly regarded, or at least entertaining, movies. I have to concur with the sentiments of Irishgit in this particular instance...I've never heard even the kindest, most benevolent critic refer to Reeves as a "great" actor. Not all that likeable, not all that unlikeable...in fact, not much of anything. Just bland. That seems to be a prized quality in Hollywood these days...

Sun Jan 22 2006I take a middle road here. I happen to like some of his work, while others just blow. I think the reason he has so many critics is because he is not consistant. Good one movie and bad the next won't win you an Oscar. The Acadamy is that picky.

Fri Oct 28 2005Chinless post of an actor. He'll always be Ted from "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure.", truly that was his cinmatic magnum opus. It's moot saying this, but that flat, burned-out surfer drawl he speaks in all the time is annoying. Oh yeah, the Matrix movies? They are movies, just movies. To all those little Matrix-ites I see scurrying about - the Goths are making fun of you and if the Goths are making fun of you...well, even Hell has a bottom.

Wed Feb 23 2005I don't know how many of you participate in martial arts, but it is very difficult to master when you begin so late in life. I think he did a fabulous job in the Matrix. I couldn't even begin to put him in the same category as Wayne or Eastwood. Playing their movies in fast motion can't get them to move at half the speed required to perform any of the simple kicks that he did. However, I have to agree that as far as acting talent goes, it is not all that. But then again, how many actors in this day and age can truly act? The only actor that I can think of who is diverse and believable, who can pull you into a movie, is Edward Norton. Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise...the whole lot of them can't act. I don't think Keanu is any better or worse, personally.

Sat Feb 05 2005Most Overrated? When evaluating an actor, what becomes a standard? The actor is whether to like or he is disagreeable. And it is natural to esteem a favorite actor. I do not regard Keanu as it being the actor who was most excellent in the world. However, Keanu is equipped with a wonderful charm. His peculiar performance is exposed to criticism of a critic. But the peculiar performance is just the characteristic of only Keanu, and nobody can do imitation. It is called INPOSSIBLE INNOCENCE, it oozes from the inside of Keanu and it is a gift from God surely. Moreover, there were frustration and difficulty in Keanu. There was also a severe criticism which is erased as an actor. Keanu has built the present status as an actor of Hollywood, without bending one's policy, without hanging on to a sales image, without escaping from the Hollywood system. It is a too wonderful thing and it is also great, and if it is a favorite fan about Keanu, naturally the highest evaluation is carried out.

Tue Feb 01 2005While Ok in the Matrix, his performance was only overshadowed by the brilliance of Lawrence Fishborne. C'mon, did anyone see Reeves in Speed? :(

Tue Sep 07 2004Keanu the most overrated actor? Puh-leez ppl. The man is (as he says) the critics whipping dog. But he keeps getting hired and his bank account bigger and bigger. As far as looks, you damn straight he is hot. He just turned 40 on 9/2/04. He acts 20, looks 30, feels 50, and just turned 40. (I saw this on a mug somewhere). Anyway, Keanu has had a lot of tragedy in his private life. A lot of death of loved ones. But he kept on going. He has to be a strong-willed man to continue to persevere and be the workaholic that he is. He no longer has the band Dogstarr. He now plays the bass for a band called Becky. (Named after the chick that sings and helps write the songs). They have a great website. www.beckyband.com. You may be surprised. Keanu also does a lot of charity work for kids. He also gives a lot of his money away to people around him who have been there for him. He is a kind and generous man (it is reported). However, he is very shy. He just does not get how grea... Tue Mar 02 2004I don't think he's much of an actor, but then I can't really say he's over-rated because I've never seen anyone rate him very high.

Fri Jan 16 2004I don't see anyone else taking home millions of dollars for playing Neo in the Matrix movies....Keanu Reeves has talent...and lots of it. Of course he is very goodlooking, but that is not the only reason why he is cast in great movies...he just has raw, natural talent that alot of people wished they had...SUPERB ! NOT OVERRATED !

Fri Jan 16 2004Only because he acted in such movies as the Matrix is he famous. Another looker, not ability.

Tue Nov 25 2003I don't think many people out there over the age of thirteen would agree that Keannu has any acting skills. He looks cool in a trenchcoat and shades, but looking cool and acting are two separate things. He only uttered about forty-five words total in Matrix: Reloaded. It was kind of funny to see the other actors launch into long soliloquies around him, into which Keanu would interject 'whoa' or 'I see'. It's sort of sad that his work on the Bill & Ted movies is the best he's ever done.

Mon Nov 24 2003While I love Keanu as Neo and feel he's perfect for roles such as that and what he played in Speed, he lacks depth in every other attempt I've seen him in. His voice is what really gets me; it never changes with emotion-just always the same monotonous voice.

Tue Sep 30 2003I never liked Reeves very much. He's more expressionless than Charlie Sheen, which is notable as it's well known that Sheen was carved out of wood. The Matrix movies are great entertainment but Reeves is not the reason why.
