Katz Bagels is always a pretty good option. They offer freshly baked bagels, bagel sandwiches, pretty good coffee, and a clean place. It's not a traditional SF coffee shop - no beatniks, no internet access, etc - but they do carry the New York Times. Not a bad place to pick up a bagel and a cup of coffee. *Update* Oddly, Katz is now serving incredibly good pizza. Every slice is made to order with super high quality ingredients. If you don't mind waiting about 10 minutes for a slice, this is a really good option.

Never tried the coffee, but the bagels are the best in SF if you're used to NY City quality hard skinned bagels, the kind that are hard to chew explaining why NY Jewish older women never have double chins.
