Jump the Shark

This is a fun site. The only problem is they need to replace Ted McGinley as their patron saint. McGinley was actually the best character on Married With Children in the later seasons and he is the only funny character on Hope and Faith. He is actually a very good actor.

Some of the funniest and most outrageous postings on the web I ever read are on this sight. Only fault: I love Ted McGinley!

I kind of see Jump the Shark as the Web site equivalent of a movie that should of been a skit on SNL. Follow me? Yes, the whole concept of Jump the Shark is funny - yes Happy Days deteriorated with Fonzie jumped the shark, but to create a whole Web site based on this concept? A whole business? To put food on your family's table based on one somewhat cutesy expression? Seems a little excessive. I think that JumpTheShark.com may have jumped the shark, so to speak.

I discovered Jump the Shark when I first saw it listed here on RateItAll and read some of the comments. As some of the other comments noted, the concept of the site is to analyze and discuss when television shows reached their peak, but made some change such as adding a new character, has a very special episode, or someone gets married that resulted in its ultimate demise. There is a literally horde of information and user comments on the site; however, it suffers from extremely poor organization in my opinion. Just too many links per page and the comments are not attributed to anyone. Jump the Shark should organize itself along the lines of RateItAll.

always good for a laugh, but sometimes i find the layout boring. who has time to scroll down through what everyone else has said, and who really cares?

Great site for anyone even slightly interested in television shows. There are a lot of hilarious, if somewhat demented, posts to read (check out Dora the Explorer) and you can find out a great many things you didn't even know you forgot about some of your favorites. You will also find that there are a great number of people who take television faaaaaar too seriously. Great fun.

I stumbled across this site a while back and I think it is hilarious. "Jump the Shark" refers to the moment where a long-running TV show has peaked and is all downhill from there. Example: Niles and Daphne getting together on "Fraiser" would be a jump the shark" moment, because the show will never be the same after that. Same thing when the Meathead and Gloria left "All in the Family", or when they brought in Cousin Oliver on The Brady Bunch. You'll have to check the site for the reason why this pheonomenon is called "jumping the shark"; I wouldn't want to ruin it for you. The site is interactive, and you can leave your own comments on tv shows and read the thousands of comments on hundreds of shows left by other site users. Some of the comments are drop dead hilarious if you remember your old tv shows. There is a LOT of content here if the idea of discissing tv shows appeals to you.

Love this site, hours and hours of reliving old TV moments.

This is by far the best site out there for the tv buff.You can become engrossed in the comments for hours.If you are a true tv fan and enjoy trivia this is your site.

I think it's a pretty cool site. I like reading other people's opinions about when a certain TV show has gone downhill. It seems to be pretty hard to get stuff posted there though, because I've tried posting stuff and they never put it in.

I have only one problem with it--and I've pointed it out to the folks running the website--it has yet to be licensed or adapted to other topics such as comic strips, radio programs, corporations, or American presidents. It's a fantastic concept!!!! I have heard that Rolling Stone magazine had a "jump the shark" webpage, however, based on the original webpage, where people could discuss when musical groups "jumped". I've also heard about plans for similar sites devoted to sports teams and other subjects, and I've heard about a new book based on the Jump The Shark website, that also explores such areas as political careers, which I hope to look at one of these days. The concept of "jumping the shark" has much promise beyond the area of TV shows and the current website is a tremendous success. The premise--there is a point where everything and everyone goes downhill for good--is probably something that all of us should think about. Good job!!!

This is a really original site especially geared toward TV buffs. Among other things, it speculates when a television show took the wrong turn and started that inevitable downhill slide into cancellation. Jump the Shark refers to the point at which “Happy Days” began that journey – specifically an episode when Fonzie did some kind of water ski jump over a shark. Couldn’t give you details on that particular episode because I had long since given this show up for dead before it aired. Jump the Shark is a fun place to spend some time especially if you’ve grown up watching show after show bite the dust and have always wondered just what ultimately caused it.
