Mon Oct 04 2010$25 for this crap? Look for Duggan's Dew for $13 which tastes much better and has 86.5 Proof if you cant find it then look for Ballantines. This one burns...alot, and has an almost bourbony taste to it.

Sun Sep 05 2010If you must mix Scotch (i.e., with Sprite, 7up, etc.) then this is the only Scotch widely available in the U.S. which isn't either bloody awful or a complete waste of money with which to do so.

Wed Aug 11 2010Crap. I'd rather drink warm Moose piss.

Fri Mar 19 2010If you must drink johnnie walker and can't afford the more pricey labels just go for a fifth of the black label. However better choices are dewars, teachers highland cream, and famous grouse ( for blends anyway).

Fri Oct 16 2009Johnny Walker Red and water is a solid drink. Just enough characteristic smokey peat aroma and flavor for true Scotch enjoyment . Although Scotch snobs will badmouth it, it is a quality blended Scotch at an economical price. And I would rather sip it neat than some single malts I've tried.

Mon Oct 05 2009I've had worse... but not by much. It somehow manages to be a harsher version of JW Black while being weak and watery at the same time. I'm still trying figure out how they manage that trick. I'm becoming increasingly convinced that JW Scotch is the whiskey worlds "Rhinestone Cowboy". All Hat and no Cattle...

Tue May 12 2009If you like the taste of iodine, I'd say give this a try. For the rest of us; bad scotch. It has 2 stars because I'm getting my money's worth by mixing it. There are better choices for less money if all you want to do it mix it but its few good properties are brought out if mixed in with coke or ginger ale.

Sun Jan 04 2009Really bad blended scotch. I am not fun of J.W. i don't like even their superior varieties (black, green are hush,blue/gold overpriced),but i think Red is one of the worst blends ever made. Cheap and tasteless.

Wed Nov 12 2008I drink a lot of "good" scotch, and have bottles of it around for when I want to really enjoy something nice. But when I just want to sit by the fire and have a drink then it's JW Red. Some on here claim it's swill; that may be true when up against an Ardberg or Laphroaig or Lavavullun, but JW Red is the best stuff for $25/liter at any duty free shop in the world. In fact, I prefer it over most of the Balvenie/Macallan/Glen-whatever single malts, it has more character in my mouth. So to heck with all the scotch snobs, myself included, this is the best budget stuff going. Kicks the Famous, Dewars, etc. in the kilt for the same or less $.

Wed May 21 2008Urine. Bad urine at that. From a diseased Highland sheep in all likelihood.

Mon Jan 21 2008Well balanced blend. A little on the flavor side of the flavor / smooth equasion. Better than average blended scotch whiskey. Good choice for drinks requiring scotch as the main alcohol ingredient. Not my choice for a straight scotch whisky on the rocks. Cutty would probably sufffice in that category. Lot's of money spent on advertising.

Mon Nov 05 2007Good for mixed drinks, but that's about all.

Mon Aug 27 2007This is my summer stand by. If I don't feel like a beer, two ice cubes and a shot is excellent. Has a nice smokey flavor and is a little sweet. With ice cubes, I can't tell the difference between this and black / blue / green. I don't think that blended scotches should be compared to single malts as they are completely different. I would never put ice with a single malt and I rarely drink blends straight.

Mon Oct 02 2006If you look for a standard, good, blended scotch, this is your choice.

Sun Oct 01 2006Johnny Walker Red is basically a rail liquor. Its good enough for somebody to order because of the brand recognition, but its not at all special when compared to other Scotch.

Thu Jun 08 2006I really don't know why Johnnie Walker lets their name be attached to this swill. If you think you don't like Johnnie Walker, and Johnnie Red is the reason, you really haven't tried Johnnie Walker yet--the Black, Green, Gold and Blue labels are vastly superior. This stuff's harsh, unbalanced and doesn't even mix well, and yet you'll still pay for the brand name too, which makes it possibly the worst value in a bottle of Scotch available on the market today.

Wed Mar 08 2006Not the best Scotch on the market but you could do a lot worst. A good choice for the Scotch drinker on a budget.

Thu Dec 15 2005Johnny Walker markets their product well. This is the Jack Daniels of Scotch.

Wed Mar 16 2005Annybody still drinking this poison ?? Unbelivable. I had a bottle in 1987. Gave it away (Sorry Mike) after a few drinks. Stay away from it!!!
by irishfratboy
Thu Jan 27 2005If you like a whiskey taste with too much harsh bite to it, and a terrible taste, by all means purchase this. But I suggest mixing Jack Daniels and Everclear together in equal portions, it's cheaper and has the same effect.
by gl_hume
Fri Nov 05 2004DO NOT BOTHER. Sure it's cheap and its scotch but why torture your self??? Drop the extra 10 spot and get some Glenlivet or Glenfidich.

Wed Sep 22 2004Good scotch for the price. Don't go to black until you have had this. Also, once you go black you don't go back. Very sold scotch with a nice suttle bite.

Fri Nov 28 2003Horrid stuff!

Fri Aug 08 2003I hardly consider this as even a marginal scotch - only a cut above 100 Pipers and the like.

Wed May 07 2003Good scotch for the money

Mon Apr 21 2003Another very decent blend. If you like Scotch and soda water, this is the Scotch to use. If you're looking for a scotch to drink "neat," go with the BLUE (now that's a 5 star scotch).

Wed Mar 14 2001The only way to discribe drinking this (with only one ice cube) is that it dances in your mouth like mercury bouncing on a table. The only thing better is Johnnie Walker Blue.
