Sat Dec 10 2011Pagey deserves all the accolades. He was a great songwriter and a diversified guitarist. He played blues, acoustic, and Indian music and was exciting to see "live".One of the most innovative and revered guitarists in all of rock.Period.

Thu Nov 24 2011From the moment I slapped Led Zeppelin 1 on my turntable, I realized that a significant transformation in rock music had taken place. Sure, I grew up with early rock, The Beatles, the Stones, Bob Dylan, the Psychedelic Era, Jimi Hendrix. But nothing prepared me for the impact of Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin. Rock Guitarists are what we are rating. It is the Rock Guitarist that drives Rock & Roll more than any other "voice". The Rock Guitar evokes a visceral response from the listener unlike any other musical genre. It is the centerpiece of the rock ensemble; with voice, bass, percussion (keyboards, brass) playing integral, yet complementary, roles. Jimmy Page created the idea of Led Zeppelin. Incredibly (and somewhat magically), he found the most complementary of all musicians in Plant, Bonham, and Jones. Led Zeppelin would not be Led Zeppelin without each of members of this unique quartet. But the driving force, the musical energy, came from Jimmy Page. When I rate a Rock Gu... Read more

Sat Oct 22 2011Over rated!!! If his mentally vacuous fans knew how much of his stuff he stole from other musicians, ah...they probably wouldn't give a shit 'cause they are so f*cking ignorant!

Thu Feb 17 2011He was amazing in his studio work, he struck a fine and sensible balance between bringing entirely fresh ideas and using traditional ones to create some of the greatest works of art the world has seen... he has put some of the finest and deeply emotive solos in his studio work with Led Zeppelin. His riffs were catchy and royal and will forever be enjoyed and cherished. However, his performance live is somewhat questionable... The solos of Stairway To Heaven, Dazed and confused, Since Ive Been Loving You etc from 1973 Madison Square Garden were some of the finest and most emotive pieces ever written... However some of his solos in the 1975 Earl's Court performance and later were just random guitar rambling, for example parts of Dazed and Confused(Earls' Court 1975). I suspect his notorious drug use and lack of practice was responsible for his sloppy and somewhat random live performances. P.S. However, listen to the live stuff he did with Zeppelin in their early days (68-73), h... Read more

Wed Aug 25 2010It kind of pisses me off when people try to compare him to hendrix. If you gave me total distortion and longer teeth I could be the next "greatest" too. By far it is Jimmy Page. No one played better live or in the studio, played faster, wrote better, or revolutionized every music genre the way page did. There is no comparison between him and any other guitarist. My List: 1. Jimmy Page 2. 3. 4. 5. everyone else He deserves at least three spaces between anyone else.

Mon Aug 23 2010He's better then Hendrix!

Tue Jan 26 2010It's all about Jimmy... not Jimi, who really only had 4 solid years of fame. Sure, Page is not the best live performer, but that's what Plant was on stage for. When it comes to technical ability, innovation, and overall skill, he IS the greatest guitarist ever to live. Watch "Dazed and Confused" and "Whole Lotta Love" on the song remains the same DVD and I'm 100% confident that all of those who say "meh, he's alright", will think differently. And WTF Zeppelin overrated?? You can't overrate hard rock, R&B, and folk's #1 influence of all time.

Sat Jan 16 2010DON'T GET ME WRONG HE IS A DESENT GUITARIST AND HAS A GREAT TO HIS SONGS BUT IS A LITTLE OVERESTIMATED WHEN IT COMES TO SOLO ABILITY

Fri Nov 13 2009For all the negative reviews it appears a few remember what music was like during the days when Jimmy when in first Led Zep 1 and later 2 amazed the rock audiences of his day. I have been playing for over 30 years and have played a wide range from rock, jazz, soul to reggae and have a list of musicians as long as my arms.... as friends. Jimmy while having his faults also happened to be one of the more creative musicians of his day.. This fact while many vary on how great he was he is NEVER given a negative role for his creative ideas, interesting unique chops and shear fortitude of new ideas.. Sure some can claim he is not the most polished in some of his performances live , but , and do mean but he CAME up with so many chops and ideas from his own experiences. Sure he borrowed from other songs and musicians, who else doesn't . The main thing to think is of his re interpretation of songs and introducing a realm and feel of music not as yet seen. Re awakening ideas of a old rock world... Read more

Thu Jul 16 2009Led Zeppelin overrated? Ummmm..................
by delcloque
Thu Jun 11 2009In "Since I've been loving you", Jimi Page produced the best blues solo of all time, probably the best guitar solo of all time, even surpassing the great Hendrix and that's saying something, great to see him at number 3, one ahead of Eric Clapton. Philippe

Mon Apr 13 2009Jimmy is ok but not as good as Jimi.

Fri Jan 23 2009The difference with Page is that it doesn't matter how good anyone thinks he is the fact is without his influence rock music would not exist in the same form that we know it today!

Thu Oct 09 2008He might be the best studio guitarist ever. He stepped into the Yardbirds as the next Clapton / Jeff Beck and didn't drop the ball as they evolved into Led Zeppelin.

Mon Aug 04 2008He is kinda dull but put a guitar in his hands and he comes alive. If he could play live like he can in the studio he'd be the best.

Mon Jul 21 2008Not the geatest live player, but certainly still very good. The greatest studio(rock)guitarist ever which is direct reflection of his talent, creativity and intelligence. The bottom line is, if other guys could have done what he did in the studio they would have.

Fri Jun 20 2008I don't think he was that good, though admittedly, I'm not expert. It seems like he was too flashy and showboated too much.
