I've lost family to this church! I've heard Johnston speak a few times, and he always says, "Get your checkbooks out..." The only thing he ever truly preaches is if something is not going right in your life, it's because you do not tithe enough. Meaning, he needs a raise, to travel, or send his wife to the spa all day. It's sick how Johnson county gets so wrapped up in money, that they don't see what Johnston really is. It should be apparent when you walk into this church and see a bronzed statue of him at the entrance. Really? I wish I could give him and his church a ZERO!

Do not be deceived by this church. It is nowhere near what it is cracked up to be. As Christians we are to love and honor God. The only thing being honored is the Johnstons' bank account. First Family church is led by a pastor who does not live by his own preaching. He doesn't write the majority of the material in his sermons; he is a wordsmith and excellent communicator with NO depth or application of Bible principles. Follow the trail of Johnson County court records! He isn't even a responsible tax paying citizen...multiple, multiple, multiple times - repeat offender!!!!!!! FFC'ers who do you think you are giving your tithe to? Ask to see the financial records of where your tithe is being used! It isn't Almighty God, but rather god of Jerry!

I went to Family for 5 years served overr 30 hours a week and was escorted out for asking about thier financil statement, my brother was also throw out and ban and he was one of the first people to help Jerry get off the ground. I know Jerry knows the bible unfortunately he does not practice it. He can't even hire a knowledgeable pastor because they all quit after 2 months. He enlist the help of all the tenager pastors and corupts them. Just look at the list of pastors in this church all below 25 years old and all lead by Jerry. Bottom line don't question his financial statement because you will be kicked out of the church.

I live near Jerry's First Family Shopping Mall & Cappuchino Bar Church, which I am sure is modeled after his cronie Falwell's in Lynchberg. I have attended there once. It didn't take me long to realize that FFC is all about Jerry's visions and not necessarily God's plans. I mean think about it: here he is in the middle of all this Johnson County loot, the most prosperous area of KC. He's got to have some big dollars signs in his eyes. He's got to be running his needless projects on six figure buggets and milking his flock for the six figures. And apparently what the KC Star said was true about a lot of the hurt disguntled members. I guess mega-churches like his are a sign of the end times.

If this man bumps into you check you wallet. The Rev. Jerry Johnston refers to himself as “Dr. Jerry,” and the title is prominently displayed on a large sign at First Family Church’s entrance. But the “degree” that Johnston holds is an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from the Rev. Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University. He received it May 8, 1998, when he was the speaker for the baccalaureate service, a university spokesman said. Johnston calls the degree “one of the greatest honors of my life.”

Jerry's god is money - he claims to want to reach people but when he was talking about the new buildings, he already had a budget worked out, predicting how many new people would show up and how much money they would bring in (note, not how many would come to know the Lord, how much money they would bring in). Jeremy, in one of the yearly videos, after watching a HUGE amount of work put in to it, said "How can anyone watch that, not open their pocketbooks and give". That is their motivation. If you give, you're feeding their materialism. Love them enough not to give them anything!

Johnston is ran by Mike Tompkins of Tompkins Industry. The people you hear on Royals and Chiefs commercials.  Mike is not a christian and has never attended a service except for when they unveiled his Daddy's good name on the church.  Watch for Mike to go down with the Johnstons as he is shady deluxe.

I would be interested in knowing what Jerry Johnston's four brothers think of his "business." In all the years I was a member of the church, Jerry didn't talk about his brothers. I think he mentioned one of them in passing. He talked about and introduced his parents, who went to the church (and his mother is a secretary). I always wondered if Jerry's brothers weren't Christians and didn't want to have anything to do with Christian things - or if they knew there was something fishy and wanted nothing to do with it. I wonder if Jerry and Christie think they are more upper class than Jerry's siblings and the siblings are put off by that? Just something that I've always thought about and never had answers. Anyone know?

I live no more that ten miles from his First Family (SBC) Church and have attended it a few times. And I became turned off to him and his church. I'm not exactly sure what to make of him. He is certainly in the mega-church business where the creed is bigger and more expensive is best. This shows with his huge church complete with an awesome church atrium (reminds me of a shopping mall or luxury hotel) including a super cappichino bar and the sort of wow effect that you might experience walking into a Vegas casio lobby. And of course he has lots of youth programs all going at once. The first time I attended Dr. Jerry's church he happened to share with us in his sermon thatin his jet-setting around he managed to be watching the Super Bowl with none other than Jerry Falwell at Falwell's home when Falwell suffered some sort of heart attack. It seems that these two Jerrys have lots of money to jet-set around the country. Of course with all this mega-churching and mega- church plans, and meg... Read more

"Dr." J once referred to another local pastor as a "wolf in sheeps clothing" because he disagreed with his stance on a tough social issue. "Dr." J should look in the mirror, and he will see dimly his reflection is tarnished. "Gossip is a rumor that goes in one ear (or eye) and out many mouths (or internet sites/emails)." --unknown I have been a Christian for many years and I still find these types of comments about Gospel preaching ministers amusing. What a waste of time...shouldn't you be out reaching a lost world that needs the love of Jesus Christ?

All three of Jerry's children work for the Church and are paid large saleries. All three of them, even his 20 year old live in $400 thousand dollar houses. They also have large clothing allowances. Jerry sent a couple with their five children off to a foreign country with a promise to support them as missionaires and sent them a few payments then stopped leaving a family of seven stranded in another country. Members of the church (who have now left) had to have garage sales and raise money to get them home. This happened while his kids houses were being built. The couple tried numerous times to contact the Church to ask why they did this and no one would return their calls until they asked for help from friends at the Church then they got a very angry phone call telling them they were making the Church look bad. One member asked to see the books and was told "NO" and because he had given so much money he insisted and was asked to leave the Church. When he told a friend that was s... Read more

I worked at his church for 4 years and he and his family ARE NOTHING LIKE THEY ARE ON STAGE! Everything bad you hear about them is true. NO one stays going to this church for long. They get figured out quick. STAY AWAY FROM THIS CHURCH> There are many wonderful churches in the area that really are for GOD! Don't go to this one! --- The only reason there is 1 star is because they won't let you do ZERO stars which is what they deserve.

I've watched him claw his way into the media for years. He is what we used to call in the newspaper business "a media whore." As a Christian I've tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, but there's something wrong with this picture. I believe that any time a man spends so much energy on political issues and so little time on the simple message of Christ we have an obligation to ask ourselves why. I was back in Overland Park recently (home of his mega-church), and heard several people say Johnston just gives them the creeps. These are good, solid Christians who have no axe to grind. I guess I go back to Henry Kissinger's famous quote: "Absolute power corrupts absolutely." Problem with Johnston is that he's surrounded by people who would lose out if they held him accountable. Look on the church website; check out the number of staff members who are either relatives, long-time associates, or very young adults. None of these folks would have jobs if Johnston decided to say,... Read more

This man is a wolf in sheep's clothing. He has wounded more Christian believer's than you could possibly know. There is quite a bit of evidence against him concerning money/greed and misappropriations. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up in prison. Watch out for men like him. It's all about the money, himself, his name, and the "production." it is not about Jesus Christ.
