Well, the relationship with Larry Flynt was more complicated than I thought. Some of his message was not bad, but I wish he had realized that accepting Evolution as a fact does not actually contradict Christianity. He would have been a more positive influence if he had not rejected science.

I see where fat boy collapsed today and was rushed to a hospital. Funny, you'd thought surely he would have been taken to a church to be "healed." Interesting how these "Christians" cling to life and are in no hurry for their "rewards" they so freely talk about.Hey Jerry, Now you are just a dead bigot...In Jerry's honor, I just went down and named our men's room, "The Jerry Falwell Memoral Reading Room."

I live no more that 10 minutes from Jerry Johnston's Shopping mall and cappuchino bar church, which I am sure he modeled after the what his cronie Jerry Falwell has at Thomas Rd Church. I have attended there once as a visitor (last year I think).  It didn't take me long the realize that FFC is all about what the visions of Jerry are and not necessarily what God's plans are. I mean think about it: Here he is in the middle of all this upper class Johnson county money--perhaps the most prosperous area in metro Kansas City. He has got to have some big dollar sign in his eyes. He's got to be running this mega church and all his needless mega dollar building projects on 6 figure buggets and 6 figure tithing. According to the KC Star article he is really milking his flock. And from some others who have commented and rated here, former members, this appears to be true about him. And if this is true, then we must be living in the last days.  The only reason I gave him two stars is theologically... Read more

Jerry, please stop speaking for me and all the other Christians in the world! We don't need you to spearhead any campaigns against all the adversaries you claim we have in the world. We need someone who will shut up long enough to let God speak to him. Let us who have been listening carry on the fight Christ compelled us to wage.

My favorite Falwell story is many years ago a severe storm knocked down his TV broadcast antenna.  So what did he do?  He asked his TV followers for money to rebuild the tower and millions rolled in.  One small problem.   You see, of course he had insurance, so the tower was already paid for by the insurance company.  Just another example of what these hucksters will do to take money away from the frail and ignorant.  So sad.

Jerry is not really too bad as televangelists go, but he is too tame for my tastes. I want showmanship, lots of eschatology or just plain old fire and brimstone for my money. Jerry just doesn't fit the bill.

Normally, I care not for televangelists. However, I will make an exception if Falwell will preach a sermon on gluttony. It is scriptual that gluttony is wrong, wrong, wrong!!! Please don't advise me on how to please God when you are abusing the temple of the Holy Spirit.

A late 20th/early 21st century equivalent of Father Coughlin. Or a real life version of Elmer Gantry. Take your pic. Another member of the neo-fascist religious right. It was a riot when he predicted a hurricane to hit Ft Lauderdale because they had a "gay day" and about a week later one hit right where his headquarters is!

He is the Joseph Gobbels of the Right-wing religion. You never see him preaching messeges of hope, only messeges of dispair, and hate. What a pompus jackass! He'll never convince me to go to church, at least his. His ideas are as far out there as The Heavens Gate cult riding the Hale-Bop comet!

This is the wrong category for Falwell. He has as much to do with God and Christ as Andy Dick. If the list-maker created a new list under the category "Demagogic Political Bigots and Clowns", you could comfortably fit Falwell and a lot of the other petty tyrants on the "TV Evangelist" list onto the new one.

Ministry driven by famous personalities and politics. A preacher is mandated to reach out to all. Falwell alienates the liberals by fighting their politics. Falwell fails in his mission to reach out to all with the gospel.

Speaking of hate, it is amazing the absolute vitriole that is spilling from the keyboards of supposedly moral superiors to Jerry Falwell. The level of your hate for someone you accuse of being hateful would be funny if it weren't so scarry and alarming. Falwell lovingly stands for the values that made America great and are found in the Judeo-Christian basis of our laws. He understands that it is the BIBLE that is the basis of our system of government. (Read some Locke if you don't get this. You probably weren't taught Locke at your radical, leftist, hate-America secular university). He stands firmly for truth, but he remains kind to opponents and critics and keeps a smile on his face as he boldly declares that Jesus loves all sinners and is the only way to heaven. That is probably what drives so many people crazy. Just to correct a few of the LIES on here: While it is true that Falwell poorly managed LU's finances in the wake of the Jim Bakker scandal in 1988, it was not Rev. Moo... Read more

Jerry Falwell's legacy is one of intolerance and bigotry, unless you are watching a different news program then I am. I have heard him insert foot on numerous occasions, making hate-filled and quite generalized statements about a swath of people based on his quite limited experience with a select few of that grouping. I will not agree with his assertions about followers of Islam all being bad people out to get us (a few of them for sure, but not the lot of them), among others. If that is the image of Christianity you want presented to the world, I want no part of it. He and those who blindly follow him do not represent me, and they do not witness to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the same God who died on the cross to save us all.

A preposterous, self-serving, self-righteous boor, who only wants your $, like most of these charlatans. The one silver lining is that he's good for a laugh now and then. What's frightening to me is, regardless of ideology, since moving to Indiana, I'm finally realizing that this movement, this part of the Republican Party really is everywhere, aside from the Northeast, a few pockets of the Midwest, and much of the West Coast. Living in the northeast kind of shelters you from the vast influence of insane demagogues like this one. I turn on the tv here, and there are literally at least 6 cable channels with frauds like him on. I will say that this type of stuff is far FAR more pervasive than I ever imagined, and it's scary.

I do not usually come to the defense of televangelists such as Jerry Falwell. However, I have read some accusations regarding his past statement about one of the Teletubbies and from the tone of the accusations it is apparent that all of the information has not been brought forward. I recently gave a review of the Teletubby program five stars and said that there is nothing evil lurking in Teletubby land. That is true. The Teletubby (Tinky Winky) who is male no longer carries a woman's red hand bag as he did in earlier programs. The Teletubbies are 2 male (Tinky Winky and Dipsy) and 2 female (Laa Laa and Po). As far as Falwell's accusations that Tinky Winky was portrayed as a homosexual or trans gender character, that accusation has proven to be correct. For the purpose of this review I will cite only 2 sources. On the internet, there is a website dedicated to transgendered people and from what I was able to gather the author of the site, Jennifer Diane Reitz, is an authority on transge... Read more

UPDATE: He's back on in Washington, D.C. Why, oh, why? Tell me why can't people like this be kept down? He'll be on in my city soon, and I dread the thought of turning on my tv only to see this lousy fat bastard preaching up a storm about this and that on local tv. Someone do something quick before he spreads his ignorant brand of gospel all over America again! Aiee!!! The horror!!! Old Jer must be losing his mind as well as his grip on reality. Coming out against a sexless blobbish like creature with arms and legs and a triangle on his head was possibly the last straw for me. It's just a purple thing prancing about on astroturf, so get a grip mister! Makes me wonder what he ever thought of Prince. I wasn't stunned by what he said about UFO's, it was just more crap from that sewer he calls a mouth. I personally don't believe in UFOs even though I have a healthy love for good science fiction, but if there is someone else out there, he'd be insane to come to this crazy mixed-up planet. ... No doubt Jerry approves of the following biblical substitutes for male homosexuality (or What To Do when a mob of not-necessarily-homo-but-definitely-sadistic men land on your doorstep): 1. Offer up 2 x virgin daughters for gang rape (ref. Genesis 19:8), or 2. Offer up 1 x virgin daughter and 1 x concubine for gang rape (ref. Judges 19:24), despite the possibility of the men raping the concubine to death (ref. Judges 19:25-28). Later, as the final indignity, her 'master' may dismember her body into twelve pieces (ref. Judges 19:29). All this is acceptable, in the pursuit of maintaining the virginal and holy status of male backsides.

Jerry Falwell is a Hypocrite on all counts and discredits himself instantly no matter what he says cause he's a mouthpiece for the International Fellowship of Jews and Christians which is known to be hateful and hostile towards Messianic Jews and since Falwell claims everyone needs Jesus why is he associated with folks who believe the opposite of what he preaches

Falwell had a huge following when he led the moral majority 20-25 years ago but his downfall was when he kept beating the homosexuals are wrong issue to death. Personally, I can't stand Falwell for a few reasons. #1) Christians are supposed to be the most outreaching, understanding, embracing people on the earth (i.e You are the light of the world and the salt of the earth) but Falwell has taken Jesus and turned him into a rule book that judges the world (even though Christ himself said he didn't come to judge). #2) Falwell has turned his organization into a cult. I visited Liberty University in Virginia and can tell you first hand that it's scary. A student graduating from Liberty would have no chance at making an impact on someone living in the south bronx, hooked on crack, with 4 kids. Why? cause' Falwell has an attitude that whole world is evil except for Christians. Yet they are supposed to outreach...It's pretty sad to see that people are THAT weak minded that they can't see what... Read more

Jerry is passionate in what he says and I believe what he says. He tends to portray God's wrath instead of Jesus' love. There is a wrath of God, but turns off non-believers. I have met Jerry and I believe he is sincere. His message is one of repentence. Repenence is needed in our country.

Jerry Falwell is a FAT, pompous, self-righteous, bigoted, hate-filled a**hole. He also pastors a very large church. Two things that stand out in my mind: He was an outspoken segregationist in the 1950s and 60s. This, of course, means that at that time he was firmly against civil rights. He may have had a change of heart by now. I don't know. But it is probably safe to say that he is still a racist bigot, even if not publicly. Then, Jerry blames the 9/11 terrorist attacks on everybody that he hates. This pompous religious idiot did this quite publicly with Patty Boy and he made an obviously bullsh*t apology when the backlash from his comments hit.
