Worst town I have EVER lived in...and I have lived in 8 in the past 42 years. I have been here 10 HORRIBLE years. My income is in the top 10% of the nation and I own a beautiful home here but other than that -- It sucks! Schools SUCK! Race relations SUCK! Town of snobby users, illiterate bubbas, and two faced, over done with make-up whores! I hate to put so much negativity out there but it is amazing how poorly people treat eachother here! They are so nice to eachother's faces then completely bad mouth each other moments later. I can only imagine how they talk about me when I walk away! Do yourself a favor and DON'T MOVE HERE! My house is for sale and I plan on selling ASAP! I am done with the scum here. I gave it a single star cuz the page made me--I wanted to give it a ZERO!

i honestly love it, and wanna move there. My family lives out there and I've been goin there for a month and a half every summer since i was 2 (im 16) - I guess like the "crime rates" or whatever dont mean a thing to me because im from Philly, and in Philly its normal to turn the news on and here someone got raped, stabbed, shot at or robbed on a daily basis- So no, trust me .. its not the worst place_Here the Mexicans hate the white people, the white people hate the black people, the black people hate the white people and the white people hate the mexicans- and they all try to kill eachother, the mexicans mostly try to rape little girls_ I'm not racist and im friends with blacks and mexicans (im white) but mostly thats how its like in South Philly. the worst of JAX would have to be the rain... but other than that its beautiful and has so much to offer than the city, and anyone who lives there and complains just shows their amount of hickness. I dont think i "no everything" about Jack... Read more

I notice the only people who like it here are those that say "I've lived here my whole life". They obviously haven't realized there's a world outside of this village. Jacksonville is a horrible realization of southern people who still haven't moved on past racism. This culture less city has no hope, nor will it ever have any. Don't come here, and if you're here I strongly recommend you find out what the rest of the world is like before you even rate your cruddy city. This shouldn't even get 1 star..

The main crime is on the Northside, Downtown, Atlantic Beach, upper Westside, and upper and middle Southside. A 20 years resident of the Sunbeam area, I have been okay, but I don't get out much. Concerts such as Warped Tour have not been here lately, and composers/bands such as Lady Gaga, The Veronicas, etc. have not been here. If you want to risk your life, there are concerts at the beaches and at The Pit, on the Westside. I have not and will not go there. Crime has been moving in especially thanks to Habijax, if you ask me (just from a guess, from the looks of the location of violence and the location of Habijax home building projects). I intend to move someday, probably, if I don't arrest 1/3 of town first. A personal goal of mine, in a way.

Jacksonville florida is the worst placce to live in florida. I have been to orlando, Tampa, Miami, Ft lauderdale etc.... They have some great night life the people are great to be around. Jax is just the asshole of Georiga!! Nothing here is nice except Mortons steak house, even the jags blow. All the games are blacked out because no one will spend the retarded amount of money need to buy season tickets to a team that sucks ass. The sky line is great if you like one building that is over 30 floors on the water. Downtown well all I have to say is Superbowl if you know anyone that came here to see the superbowl a few years ago can tell you what kind of a place this is.. It is all bullshit 4 night clubs downtown, the landing that has nothing at all inside, and gangstas all over the place. So if you want your pride, wallet and ego taken from you, come on in will place you next to the finest rednecks and thugs the country can provide!!!

I was so excited to move to Jax so I could attend law school and get out of the cold Midwestern weather. That all changed upon moving. I only enjoyed my time there because of the law school bubble I lived in and beaches. The thought of living there without my law school friends after graduation horrified me. I have never met residents of a 500,000 + populated city that are so poorly traveled and aware of a life outside of the city they grew up in. It just seems like a huge version of a small town with all the locals knowing each other and actually believing Jax is a lovely place. Downtown living is a joke, no grocery store or public transportation; however, you have lots of street people. Beach living is a joke, a bunch of transcient people. Southside living is the best, but also a joke as a result of having no social environment and being 20 minutes away from anything fun with the exception of the St. John's Town Center. The fact that the shopping center is noteworthy sho... Read more

Enter Jacksonville,Fl. Home of rampid drug abuse, alcoholism, and very narrow minded people.Imagine a whole city that's set after the movie "dumb and dumberer".These people are in their own world...absolutly no culture. And the funny part about it...they all think they are "special".We know they are it's called short bus special. If you want to live in a high murder rate city where the politicians are "kin" to the criminals that walk the streets. Then go.This city is full of low life ...on the run fugitives.A total cesspool of humanity.

I lived in JAX for 4 monthes. I met a few people I become close with but alot of the people I didn't care for. Alot of trashy types (rednecks, thugs, white trash ect.) The people that I worked with that were true residents were complete assholes (this is being kind) and thought it was gay that i wore shirts over 10 dollars and actually took care of myself. The sports events are great but they dont occur too often. The nightlife is pretty crappy for the most part bunch of underage clubs in strip malls. Alot of the city is ghetto but I lived in the nicest area right behind the st johns town center which was a fun place to hang out and check out some great looking ladies. The beach is very nice and the ponta vedra area is beautiful. Not alot of activity going on tho kind of a dead town for the most part. Hot summers and the winters arent nearly as nice as the southern parts of florida. Skyline is attractive and there are alot of southern belles which are gorgous. The highlight ... Read more

Jack@ssville florida as I like to call it. Home of religious fanatics, drunks and jax jaguars get yourself a gold grill and a pick up truck and come join the tail gating party!! Hunting and fishing on the westside and then go get your lil weezy make over on the northside. Ideal place to live for a closet homosexual!!! By the way since the "resesscion" this place is back to the snails pace it once was. I live in the southside metropolitan area and I have seen snakes and alligators crossing the street very wild experience. If you shop at old navy the people tell you that you are on a high horse/high off the hog (heard many different versions of this saying here and only here), LMAO coming from new york I feel I have cheated myself. Not much money to make and the houses are very expensive for such an empty dirthole. Do not come here if you don't have a back up plan to get out. Here is an example of this towns integrity, they had a vote to change the name of one of their more populated hig... Read more

I posted once before here. Anyway, maybe in 20 years it'll be a better place. But, I've been told (and agree) that Jacksonville is 10 years behind most other large cities within 500 miles, in many aspects. Honestly I wish I could have enjoyed my time there more. I was there about a year and a half. I did appreciate the parks and natural beauty (what was left of it). I did not like how small business seems sparse there, and big business seems to be taking over. And now to make things worse, Jaxport is going to ruin Mayport. Oh well. 2 weeks ago I drove my moving truck out of town and didn't look back. I wish the city the best, and maybe one day it'll be a bustling metropolis full of popular downtown hotspots, higher class beaches areas and a decent transit system. But it sure has a long way to go. A new mayor would certainly help Jacksonville. Peyton seems like he doesn't really do anything for the city at all. It's really too hot for me anyway. Good luck with the future, Jacksonville, ... Reasons for not getting a job in Jacksonville 1) You lack the name of Bubba or Jed. 2) Your truck and tires do not meet our minimum specifications. 3) You aren't married to any of Bubba or Jed's relatives. 4) Your genes lack the desired sequencing to be hired. You must be closely related to Bubba or Jed. 5) You currently do not meet the minimal hunting qualifications of this job. 6) You don't chew tobacco. 7) You lack the necessary abdominal protrusion size and/or capacity to meet these job requirements. 8) You don't have a coon-skin cap. 9) You don't have a rifle rack in your truck. 10) You don't frequent the swamps and/or mud bogging zones as per city zoning. 11) You lack the necessary membership requirements for Bubba and Jed's pool hall. 12) Your wife doesn't wear the minimal required amount of spandex to look like her body is going to implode/explode from the pressure said spandex is placing on the fatty regions of her body 13) You/your family do not have enough bla... I have to disagree with the majority of the commenters. I have lived in jacksonville my entire life and i love it. If yoou come here looking for your life to be handed to you the get the hell out. If you work to make a life your views will gladly change. Yes there is a high crime rate and there are bad parts of town but this is soley due to our vast landmass engulfing all parts of town including the bad parts. The people that have said people are bad and there are low paying jobs...get off your ass and work. from my experiences i dont see lowpaying anywhere around me. The city is beautiful, from boating in the st johns to beaching it at one of jacksonvilles beautiful beaches. Jacksonvilles communities such as, Ortega, San Marco, San Jose, and Ponte Vedra are some of the most prestine placest to live in the country. If you call that an insane asylum id like to see where your living. I rarely ever see crime. Oh and get yourself a car if your so worried about public transportation the roa... Read more

This is a terrible town. It's full of rednecks and racists, and people who would just as soon shoot you as smile at you. The white people are awful and the black people are awful. Everyone is awful It's a godawful town. I'd worry that it's me, that there was something wrong with me, but I was happy in Valdosta, Ga, and it's no bastion of liberal thinking and I'm happy now in Vermont which is very liberal. So, I don't believe it's me. I think it's them. Jacksonville just sucks. I lived there for over 10 years and I was happy to leave.

I lived in Jax my whole life until last year when I was finally smart enough to move out. In hindsight, its the biggest shithole, full of fat ugly people, redneck, white trash illiterate freaks. if you live there, get out now. The quality of life there sucks, bad.

  • by

The quality of life in Jax is terrible - there is NOTHING to do, the city provides NO services, if you don't drive 20 miles there is no social life (have fun getting a DUI), and people at the beach are the biggest assholes you have ever met - seriously, they think going into town is like going to hell, but the people at the Jax beach are scumbags. If there were no beach, it really would be a total sewer of a place to live. Get out now, while you still can. By the way, too many poop uneducated people, and bad, and I mean BAD race relations. A total shithole. Do not visit there, whatever you do, you'll probably get killed if you go to the northside.

This was the city that awakened me to how the "rest" of Florida is...the part that isnt really God's Waiting Room for Long Island. Outside of the nice beaches nearby...was one of those towns that you got the impression that the whisky flows at night and the bikers love.

Best city in the south. Has everything one would need for a great life. Beaches, river, sporting events of every kind in new arena's, stadium, etc., neat day trips, fishing, great restaurants, symphony, good schools, excellant zoo, concerts, museums, symphony and broad support for all mediums of art. I didn't grow up here, but my young family will.

I love Jacksonville I visit recently and fell in love with the place. I thought it was going to be a boring city with ugly women. Then I get there and seen some fine sexy women I was sprung and the people are way nicer than where I live Los Angeles Ca. So I have found a new city also the city avoids hurricanes the last hurricane to hit jacksonville was hurricane dora in 1964 and it was a category 2.

For someone who has lived 34 years in Jax. (whole life), the city has truly changed for the worst. Back in the 1970's, we had more scenery and less people. Now, many are obsessed with throwing up more concrete jungles. Honestly, how many Walmarts and shopping centers does one city need?

Wonderful conservative city on the up and coming. Many people say Jacksonville is full of dumb, ignorant, rednecks - if that were so then Fidelity Financial would not have recently relocated their headquarters to Jax from L.A. I've lived in NYC, Washington, DC and Boston. Believe me when I say that the people of Jacksonville are no dumber than any of them! I hang my hat in Ponte Vedra Beach - it's the best uncommercialized part of FL.

I've only spent a few hours here and I've only been to the downtown riverfront area, so I'm rating it based on that experience. Jacksonville's downtown area seems more exciting than most other southern cities I been to. The riverfront makes for a picturesque scene, especially at night. The business district is right on the St. John's river and is clean and modern. Jacksonville Landing offers food and shopping. However, if you'd like to know what it's like to actually live here, check this website out: www.jackoffville.com

I don't see anything wrong with Jacksonville, other than its relative obscurity compared to Orlando, Tampa and Miami. They have some nice beaches, and the nightlife on the beaches is great. (Sneakers is an excellent sports bar.) Also, the radio stations are very good. On the downside, drive north or west out of the city, and the metro area just suddenly dies. But that's a minor quibble. Overall, I had fun in Jacksonville, and I'd have no problem with visiting again.

This is one of my personal least favorite cities in the country. I feel that this city is not nearly a major city. The skyline is lacking any major building or architecture and the beaches are below par for Florida. Ponte Vedra and Sawgrass is home to some great golf from what I understand. The shopping is poor and the nightlife is not any better. I think this place is very beautiful in some areas like Ponte Vedra but is run down and filthy in many other areas. My biggest dislike is the age of the population. It seems that there is a fare greater ratio of seniors to young persons here. The clubs also reflect the age of the populous it seems. I think that this is likely a nice town for the over 50 crowd as it provides for relaxation, golf and daytime drinking. The weather has been great everytime I have visited my grandmother in Ponte Vedra, which is a plus. If you are young and seeking energy, vibrance and great nightlife I would go down to Miami or up to Atlanta.
