Sat Mar 06 2010Very large dog that loves to hunt and chast prey. Although they make ok family pets, are very loyal and defensive, be advised that leash walking might be hazzardous to your arm. You'll need a larger car, yard, dog park, or preferably a farm to keep this dog exercised enough. They have a rough coat that requires regular brushing and some maintenance. Unfortunately, these dogs have very short average life spans of 7 to 10 years, which may be shorter with poor diet and lack of exercise.

Wed Sep 17 2008Young Irish Wolfhounds need enough exercise to keep them lean and healthy, but not so much that their soft growing bones, joints, and ligaments become over-stressed and damaged. The proper amount of exercise can be difficult to regulate in giant breeds.

Sat Nov 27 2004The Irish Wolfhound is truly the Gentle Giant of dog breeds. Big and tall, with wiry gray fur, they are beautiful dogs. Nothing ugly or dumb about them!

Tue Oct 07 2003The Irish Wolfhound is a majestic breed, BEAUTIFUL, loving, gentle, excellent with children and other animals and great fun to have around. No one should have an opinion on this breed unless they know them. Because to know them is to love them, it's a simple as that!!

Thu Sep 21 2000I can't really say that they're bad personality wise because I haven't really spent anymore than a few minutes with one but some neighbors have them and I just think they're plain old uuuugggly. I'm talking big wirey haired dogs. Not attractive at all, can't imagine this thing trying hop up on the couch and sleep next to you while your watching television or something, you'd think you had a troll next to you. I do hear they're friendly though but sorry that ain't enough.
