Why would I hate something like this? It just shows that someone can think for themselves, although I do realize there are some exceptions.

No, Americans value independent thought more than just about any other citizenry. Where we go wrong is attacking anyone who makes a lifestyle of it, hating people like those who tell others that they don't watch TV, like Skizero (good for him). The idea of an "intellectual," which suggests a class of people who think independently, is seen as pretentious or even as parasitic. There's something to that hate, though the haters also forget that thinking minds have to eat, and that they need to supported by the public if any true culture will emerge. That might sound snobbish to some, but it's true. Not every great idea can be judged by how well it sells.

Independant thought wrote the founding documents of our nation, so screw that notion of us hating it.

I guess the the reasoning behind this listing is this. If you don't agree with me, you are against independent thought.

Skizero, Americans are the most free thinking, independent minded people on Earth! Our country was founded by independent men and we continue to carry om that tradition. If someone believes otherwise, they either haven't read their history or paid attention to what's going on in the world, or they're just going out of their way not to believe it.

On the contrary, I think most Americans don't like people who have no independent thought. More aptly, people that don't realize they have no independent thought.

As sad as it is to say, many of us Americans are hypocits on this subject. America is founded on the principle of independant thought, among other things, but most of us do want to shove our thoughts down other people's throat. Liberal and Conservative.

The more Americans cry freedom the less likely they will entertain an opinion outside of their own. An American who is willing to fight for someone's rights outside of their own beliefs is a true practitioner of freedom.

You will find many people boasting about Freedom and their supposed love of it who would dearly love to lynch anyone who thinks differently than they do.

this is a big one. if you dont go along with the masses, they want to crucify you. and example. I havent watched TV since the year started. yesterday i called the ol' cable company to cancel my service. the lady gave me a hard time. she just couldn't understand WHY i wouldn't want to keep my cable to watch my television. maybe b/c i use my mind at night. i'm at home writing the best novels you'll never read, and i don't have time for FEAR FACTOR.

Wherever you go in this world you will always be able to find people who see no reason to move forward. They cling to their traditions and the past sometimes for good reasons but often to their own detriment. Certainly this is true of some people in the United States as well. But, if you look at the big picture throughout the course of history, there is no way that this is true for American society as a whole. Our country was founded by very independent thinkers and has grown and still thrives because of it. Just because every idea that crops up isn't accepted with open arms doesn't mean that many others are not. This doesnt mean that every new idea that comes down the pike is necessarily a good one. In our quest for fame, fortune and ego boosts we sometimes get a little carried away. All you have to do to find examples of this is check out some of the ugly, cheap architecture slapped up during the 1960s or, more recently, listen to all the problems being caused by the certain ph...
