Tue Aug 05 2008Quirky and infectious, this song sticks in my head after hearing it. In my opinion, the best song on the "Sunshine on Leith" album (which I will admit I bought solely for this song after watching "Benny and Joon")

Tue May 08 2007The original was bad enough, without the idiots from Little Britain (and Peter Kay) butchering it even more.

Sun Oct 22 2006"I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" was probably the last great Big 80's single; however, the song was a late bloomer in that it did not become well known until being included on the soundtrack for "Benny & Joon" in 1993. I say last great in that grunge was on the rise or already in full bloom at this time, not to mention the prevalence of rap and hip-hop. Nevertheless, thanks to the second chance provided by the movie, this song lets everyone act like a jotty white boy (though that's not much of a stretch for yours truly). "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" enjoyed major commercial success, spending 16 weeks on the U.S. charts in 1993 (#3). The impact of the song is evidenced by the countless and diverse covers (e.g. Toy Dolls, Steven Curtis Chapman, and Down By Law). VH1 ranks this single as #51 on its list of the greatest one hit wonders.

Sun Oct 22 2006This is still a great song to sing along with. The Proclaimers might not have done much else in the US besides this song, but its a classic.
