Mon Aug 11 2008If I was a resident of Arizona or Florida, I'd want to do something about the influx of snowbirding Canadians clogging up the highways and RV parks.

Mon Aug 11 2008I do believe this is a very important issue we face today, and illegal immigrants come from all over the world, so people should not point their finger at any particular group of people. I am all for wanting a better life, but there is a right way and a wrong way of going about things, and there are laws in place and should be adhered to.

Fri Mar 31 2006I feel sold out by our government. Mexican protesters grow increasingly more racist. I have seen signs in my neighborhood that say,"Kill Gringos," and "We will take back what's ours!" I have been subject to racism by Mexicans, as I live in a majority hispanic city. I could spout off forever the reasons why illegal immigration is bad for our country, but that would be a very long post. In short laws are in place for a reason, people who break them are criminals, whether they like it or not. I urge people who truly believe in this cause to get active, you may not have the chance later.

Thu Aug 04 2005this is a big problem. our wages have been lowered and our rent has increased cuz they know the illegals here will pay it. they send alot of the money back to mexico to help their families which is commendable but its not helping our economy

Fri May 27 2005I don't understand why we even have a border patrol because once in no one seems to worry about illegals. Two of the 9/11 a$$holes had licences because no one checked there imigration status. Finally congress is doing something about it and approved a bill that will require states to be delgent when it comes to issueing immigrants a drivers license. Illegals are putting strains on our infastructure that you really can not predict and have funding for. They say the have rights well how can some one have rights if they are not supposed to be here.

Fri May 27 2005We simply have to be more strict when it comes to immigrants. When we allow all these illegals to pur into the country we not only put more of a strain on our economy and employment, but we also allow many bad elements to fester. Instead of pouring billions into countries overseas we should be pouring billions into our own country! We should strengthen the borders and fill in those gaps where illegals sneak over. Make it impossible for ANYONE to sneak in. Once that's done we need to be strict who we allow in legally. No criminal past allowed and they should have a skill so they won't simply drain the economy. The process of becoming a citizen should take awhile, it should neevr be rushed. If they commit a crime in this country, their butts are booted out and NEVER allowed to return. If they come and instead of finding work they apply for welfare, boot them out. Lifetime taxpayers shouldn't have to pay for these people. Our resources should be limited to those that have paid i... Mon May 23 2005Draining our public resources, lowering wages (regardless of what the blonde news-reporter says), permanent second-class status due to a lack of language and cultural assimilation, and an overall lower quality of life are all by-products of illegal immigration. Politicians won't touch it- business loves it because wages are kept artificially low. Who pays? The middle class. We've been had. And don't give me any crap about 'we were all immigrants once' - there was a time when immigrants held the philosophy of partial (or total) assimilation was a positive thing because you could participate in the society. Assimilation is now seen as something to avoid - thus language, educational, economic, and cultural isolation. I'd sure like to see how I would be treated if I (1) went to Mexico, (2) demanded that my kids be taught in English, (3) expect government services to be given to me and translated in English, (4) display my flag, old glory, every chance I got and talked about how unfa... Thu May 19 2005I don't know how the situation bares in the US, but in England this problem has spiralled completely out of control. With the situation of Illegal Immagrants committing crimes and then not paying the price for the crime as they can't be traced I have no question as to why Tony Blair wants to introduce ID cards, but having taking a more stricter approach and not the softly, softly lets be polite about this this is something that could have been easily tackled. Having said all that there are two types of immigrants, the ones who actually want to work and make a country and their lives better and the ones who come here bypassing other European countries to strictly sponge off the state and get every freebie available. My parents are of African and West-Indian origin. When they came to England in the 1960's there were no freebies if you didn't work you couldn't survive it was as simple as that there were no hand-outs.

Tue May 17 2005Illegal immigration is a major problem that neither Bush nor the Democrats want to touch for fear of losing the Mexican vote, but illegals are not helping the economy grow the ship money they make down to Mexico. They have no loyalty to the U.S. they are just leeches that suck the money out and give nothing in return. Also people can sneak drugs & weapons across the border. Seal the Border with Mexico!!!!

Wed May 11 2005It is not a very important issue at all. Hey, if they wanna come to the mainland that's their business. We, Americans, have no right to interfere with them. It's a travesty that we even call our immigrants illegal. Let's just treat the newcomers as people. There are much more pressing issues that are more important than immigration.

Tue May 10 2005Many politicians are afraid to aggressively tackle illegal immigration, out of fear of losing the Hispanic vote. From my experience talking with lawful Latinos, many have their own issues with the illegals, but are understandably sensitive when politicians grandstand against an aspect of their community. The point of this issue is not about being isolationist. It is about doing a much better job at supporting honest immigrants at the expense of illegal border crossings. Right now, we aren't addressing either side of immigration very well.

Fri May 06 2005I think Bill O'Reilly may have a point here in suggesting the US Military should be utilized to control border infiltration. The illegal alien problem is overwhelming our Border Patrol, they don't have the manpower, the funding or the legislative back-up to do their job properly. I believe we are heading toward a major problem with illegal alien influx and the lack of control by our Immigration Department is astonishing. Unfortunately, it will take a spectacular incident involving American deaths, and a direct definable link to illegal aliens, to get this problem on the media radar screen, and nothing is likely to be done until we do.

Thu May 05 2005Yes, I think this is very much a problem; but I dont think that most of the immigrants themselves (including the illegal ones) are the problem. Because there is so much unchecked activity it is the possibility of slime oozing in with them that should cause the most concern. Like most Americans, my family immigrated into this country so I have a very strong sense of having no right to deny decent, hard working people the chance to grow and prosper. But it has never been more important to keep an eye on whats going on with immigration than it is right now. And while I have no problem with immigration per se, illegal immigration is another matter. Actually, the word illegal should be the tip off here because, in order for something illegal to be accomplished, it has to be done in secret well, apparently not so much here in the US but this would be the theory. Some secrets are harmless; others well topple buildings and kill people. Of all the things Bush has done since 911, his ap... Read more

Wed May 04 2005By far, one of, if not THE biggest issue facing America right now. Where is Bush on this one??!!
by louiethe20th
Wed May 04 2005So TJ are you supporting Bush's work permits for illegals?I can see some of his logic, but overall, I would have to disagree with Bush's stance on illegals.
by souljunkie
Wed May 04 2005I am a Bush supporter but If I had to point out one area where he has completely failed it would have to be here. The problem has become an ugly thing. While part of me believes that America is the land of opportunity, we have to enforce the rules of how immigrants come in. And not so much the Mexican/South American immigrants as others. If I had it my way not a single Middle Eastern/Eastern Block individual would get into this country without a lengthy and detailed background check.

Wed May 04 2005A hugely important issue, to me, but not for the reason most of you might think. We should all be wary of laws that make it more difficult for illegals to get the jobs they have, simply because of what that may cost us in the long rung. Really. Let's think about this. Some claim they are stealing our jobs. At this, I laugh. Look around you. What jobs do you see immigrants doing, legal or otherwise? Cleaning toilets, washing dishes, doing hard, laborious work that other people don't want to do (fruit picking, for example). These people are NOT stealing our jobs, they are merely filling in gaps in our work force, filling in for positions that we, as Americans, are not willing to do. Without these people, our economy would simply collapse. Don't believe me? Succeede in getting rid of all of them, and you'll see.
