Mon May 21 2007Corpulent madman, basically a sanctioned terrorist, like a lot of leaders throughout history have been.

Mon Nov 28 2005A tragic example of what happens when a crazy buffoon is allowed to be in a position of power. Idi Amin makes all other despotic African rulers look tame. His looney antics would be funny if it weren't for the countless people butchered by this ape.

Sat Apr 23 2005Laughable, ridiculous leader. Too bad he was tragic as well as a big buffoon. Tragic for Uganada and the people of Uganda. Uganda had so much too offer and it was ruined by morons like Idi Amin. I wouldn't accept a dinner invitation from him, you might just end up in as dinner!!!

Sun Mar 27 2005One of the most appallingly murderous leaders of the late 20th century, dying in a luxurious condo in Jiddah, Saudi Arabia, whose leaders thought it a good thing to do to give him an opulent retirement. For a while he was the world-record holder for having the most unpunished murders of any living person (after the death of Pol Pot).

Fri Dec 31 2004Like so many tin-horn african dictators ,he was totally selfish ,megalomaniacal ,egomaniacal ,hubristic ,believed himself to be God ,and a cannibal , that ate parts of his enemies bodies . What happened to him after he died ,was he buried or cremated? The perfect funeral for him ,would have been for either:1) the families of those that he cannibalized , to feast on his corpse ,or:2)leave his body out in an ermpty field , and let lions and tigers and buzzards chew , peck and tear at his corpse until there's nothing but bones.

Wed Jul 14 2004In terms of influence, this mass murderer did one positive thing:He was the thug in charge in 1976 when Israel came in and rescued hostages held in Entebbe.Amin is therefore responsible for establishing the blueprint on how to deal with terrorists today.

Mon Apr 12 2004Idi Amin is a ruthless dictator who slaughtered snd probably ate his own men while acting the good Muslim. It's surprising that the UN gave him a supporting ovation- they must be tied with him. He was living the life in Saudi Arabia, probably going crazy over his several self-awarded medals. He even threatened to kill superior swimmers in 1976, just before the Montreal Olympics. In a few words, he's bearly as bad as Saddam.

Mon Sep 01 2003He wasn't a nice and friendly man but he was a very very intelligent man. Even though there is many bad things about him, There is the typical good. He offered Uganda as a vacation spot to Richard Nixon during the Watergate trials. Claiming his own gallantry, he awarded himself the Victoria Cross. Irrationally, he awarded himself several medals for bravery during World War II. For no apparent reason, he declared himself King of Scotland. In bizarre moments, he wrote Queen Elizabeth: 'I would like you to arrange for me to visit Scotland, Ireland and Wales to meet the heads of revolutionary movements fighting against your imperialist oppression' (1975). He later wrote 'Dear Liz, if you want to know a real man, come to Kampala.' Tanzanian troops marched into the capital Kampala and overthrew him (April 11, 1979). He failed in an attempt to return to Uganda (1989). In retirement, he played the accordion and enjoyed reciting from the Koran. And even though he was a Muslim, he vacationed in... Read more

Mon Apr 07 2003"anmalone" is wildy inaccurate. Amin didn't claim, to be Muslim until he found out he could get weapons from Libya if he professed to embrace that religion. His real religion was the African tribal practice of his native tribe from northern Uganda. The five stars are unwarranted. He amuses me.

Sat Mar 29 2003Why hasen't this guy been executed for what he did? I knew nothing about him until a saw "Top 10 Worst Dictators" on a biography on TLC or some channel like that. Anmalone is again correct and her comment is extremely funny!

Thu Feb 13 2003Let us see... Mass murderer, cannibal, tyrant and good Muslim, who now lives comfortable and safe in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. I guess Islam is the religion of piece- a piece of leg or a little finger. It’s all good.

Tue Mar 27 2001Did you know he was a cannibal? The section on Idi Amin in Paul Johnson's wonderful history, Modern Times, is absolutely chilling.

Tue Mar 06 2001yeah, yeah...he was a horrible, ruthless, crazy, stupid man, but he was also interesting and hysterically funny when he wasn't destroying Uganda. He awarded himself, and proudly wore, the CBE medal. It stood for Conqueror of the British Empire. He did a great job playing drums on Thompson Roulette's debut Cd, ...maybe New Orleans(2001). He staged basketball games where he was the only one allowed to score. His exploits have kept me grinning for years now. He was a very, very sick and reprehensible human being, but he was entertaining. That's all anyone cares about anymore. I recommend "A State Of Blood" by Henry Kyemba. I don't recommend George Ivan Smith's "Ghosts Of Kampala" unless you've run out of sleeping pills and need some uninteresting British writing that is as lively and spicy as British cuisine. Barbet Scroeder(Barfly) made a cool documentary on Amin back in the mid-70's. Also worth searching for is a TIME magazine from March of 1977 with Amin on the cover. The h... Read more

Tue Mar 06 2001Idi Amin is a leftist dictator and butcher who slaughtered his own countrymen. The fact that he got a standing ovation when he spoke at the UN should give you some insight into the true nature of that organization.
