Tue May 11 2010I made the unfortunate decision to purchase an HP Pavilion DV 9815nr from Best Buy. Till this point in time I had been an HP fan and influenced my company's purchasing decisions as an engineering manager to select HP products, but never again. I was disappointed in the performance of this model form the beginning and then after a year and a half had passed the unit went down with screen issues. It never functioned right after that event, I paid Best Buy to get the unit running and then within 6 weeks I got the black screen of death with blue flashing buttons. Everyone who sees the unit to look at repairing it now tells me it is an $800 door stop. I have an old gateway that I purchase in 2000 that is still running strong and never a moments problems with that unit. For a company like HP to deliberately market and then totally ignore their customers complaints is a horrible business attitude and I will do all I can to ensure my company purchases "ANY" brand other than HP and that go... Fri Mar 19 2010I am a previous owner of a 2005 HP 4000 series computer and until a few monbths ago was what worked for me. No breakdowns, no repairs - a problem with the sleep mode, as all computers have so it sems. A few months ago it had a booting problem which would have cost more to fix than to replace and then I would ave an old computer that was repaired and waiting for the next problem to come. It booted using F8 so I left it on and closed in a sleep mode at night. I decided not to wait for this to stop working and bought the new HP 6310 Pavilion. That's about all these computers last, and you should be aware of this when you buy them. HP is what I call top of the line, Dell is junk made with the cheapest parts that are available. A computer is my door to the World, and HP gets me there and back every day in every way.

Mon Jan 11 2010Terrible computer. Cost me about $775. I have the dv4. I purchased it in December of 2008. Within a few months things started to go bad. First the fan went. There is a big problem with the fan on this computer which causes the computer to overheat and shutdown. I've had that fixed twice (at $125 a pop each time). Now there is a problem with the jack. When I plug in the computer it refuses to charge. The tech says there is something wrong with the pin inside the computer (the pins on the HPs tend to bend and then the charger won't work. I bought a new charger (waste of $$) and now I have to take it to a tech store to have them fix the pin. They said it is 2-3 hours of labor plus the cost of parts and there is no guarantee they can fix it. So I will be doling out another $200 or so to have this fixed. Don't buy an HP. These computers are terrible!! Honestly you are better off buying a cheaper comp like an ACER. HP sucks and their customer service is awful.

Wed Nov 25 20090 STARS This laptop Pavilion dv5 1000us is a POS. I will be sure to tell everyone I know that HP SUCKS. What a Piece O Shite this is. I am tempted to take it into Best Buy on Black Friday, tell everyone in hearing distance what garbage HP is . . . and smash this POS into a thousand pieces right in front of the everyone.

Wed Sep 02 2009I bought a souped up Pavilion PC d4760 series with advance video card, extra memory, with Windows XP in January of 2007 fdirectly from HP for about $1,500. Within two weeks had to return the monitor. It never performed anywhere near what the propaganda descripbed. It was slow and sometimes could not even handle simple movie downloads from Netflix. Had problems througout, including continual blue screen errors and freezes. The Warranty expired January 2009, thus the Mother board died six months later.

Thu Apr 30 2009To the commenter below: Agreed, my HP Pavilion laptop does all the same things. It seems to be a well known design defect in dv6000 and dv9000 series notebooks. I'm very disappointed that HP hasn't stepped up to the plate to help thousands of people who will now be lost to them as customers. Check out the link below; the speakers, microphone, and on-off switch might be repairable by something as simple as swapping a couple of cables. HP could have salvaged a lot of goodwill on this by offering some inexpensive (to them, not to us) parts and instructions, rather than trying to pretend the design defect away. The defective cable runs all those, and apparently it can be swapped with the one that runs those ridiculous Quickplay buttons. Getting inside your computer to do this is of course a pain and I'm avoiding it for now; I use external microphone and speakers, and turn my HP Pavilion DV6000 series on and off by jamming one end of a spoon as hard as I can against the on-off switc... Wed Apr 29 20092 years ago I bought a Pavilion AMD Athlon 64x2 dual core 4600+ , couldn' t ever had IIS working on it, Turn Off and Restart procedures, IE 6,7 and 8 aren't working at all and the TV Tuner died on me after 8 months ! ! ! The way they setup the OS means no flexibility, dvd burners run a lot slower than on other machines, this PC is "clean" of any virus and I defragment disk "C:" on a regular basis but the the overall performance (speed) of this model is disappointing, and was since day 1. I started with PC's (IBM) when under PC-DOS 1.0a in 81, owned 18 PC's over the years (IBM, DELL, etc. . .) , I am now running a home network of 5 Desktops and a laptop. The HP pavillion was the worst Desktop I ever came across. HP service is next to zero ! they did their best to get away from the problems their machine have by suggesting to "look with Microsoft. . .", after 5 calls and 8 emails, i gave up. you are better off going to some local INDEPENDENT store close to your home if possible, ... Sun Apr 12 2009I Had A Pavilion 304w. Well Man this Desktop Is junky Freezes when running 1 application even with 768 mb ram and a Amd 1.53Ghz Processor. Couldn't Even Keep From Getting BSD From Errors on the Motherboard. Don't Buy HP products.

Wed Jan 21 2009My whole experience with HP Pavilion 2310 - product, service, and claim case management--was terrible. The notebook suffered occasional breakdown from the beginning. An update of the BIOS did not seem to improve the situation obviously. In one year and a half the notebook crashed completely, which started a more than 2 months tedious repairing process. I got my notebook back only after I filed a claim at BBB and got into contact with an HP claim case manager. To my surprise, the original 1G memory system was replaced by a 512 MB one during the repairing. From my point of view, such a replacement is cheating. I am speechless with HP. I learned from a website that another people had experienced a similar situation as I did. So I am thinking, maybe we can teach HP a lesson and learn to respect their customers. Died on me 3 times (because of the cheap china-made motherboard), internal speakers stopped working, microphone malfunctioned, power button doesn't work, battery life barely even 45 mins, brightview screen has gotten extremely dim, and those damn quickplay buttons!!!!!! Thank god I bought a warranty extension when I purchased this garbage, or it would never have been repaired once! My next laptop is a dell...

Sat Oct 25 2008I must tell you my experience with HP Pavilion - I was warned, but I thought it is stupid to listen, now i saw the truth. I bought two HP pavilions, both series dv9500, one is not so strong the other is dv9690el. It was around four or five months. The dv9690el has geforce 8600m gs video card and the system was already twice on HP repair, now they exchange the mainboard and told me that they tested everything and it is fine...super!..hoho..after five seconds my laptop got nvdllmkm error and system shutdown...I almost got crazy, they did it once more..repaired everything, said everything is fine..I have enough I will sue them. I am so very sorry I ever bought pavilion..would destroy it and send back to them them in pieces, but will not do that..will take it easy, I payed 836 EUR...we will see what will be at the end. Mon Aug 25 2008i have the pavilion m9080 purchased x-mas 2007, within 7 days it had mother board replaced, 4wks later the desk top replaced. 3 months later after many calls to hp service center(not many speak fluent english)about a cracking or popping from monitor, i was changing screen settings, connecting and disconnecting leads. i finally got the message across that i was not happy. low and behold they say they have issues with that model and would i like a replacement?. yes thanks. it only cracks once now at start up. just 2 weeks ago the keyboard died, oh joy another call to service centre. after much messing about they sent new a new keyboard mouse and wireless toggle. arrived 10 days later and noticed that it was now in its 4th revision. more issues me thinks. well if your wondering what the star is for its for looking good. as it cant do anything else without having some kind of issue.

Thu Aug 07 2008The worst laptop...do not buy it!! i have had mine for 15 months and have had the motherboard replaced twice, once under guarantee and once on my own account!! i am now going to buy a Dell Inspiron 6400 and use the hp for a back up and hope i never need to use it again. my cousin bought me this laptop as a birthday gift and bought himself one as well. he has had to replace the motherboard twice in 12 months!!!! not a great track record to say the least.

Fri Mar 28 2008Terrible machine. Look at *all* the 1's that it has been given. I have been using computers since the original IBM XT and replace mine every 2 years or so. I made the mistake of buying an HP pavilion -- the hard drive died with a head crash after 2 months and HP refused to replace it. It was weird -- the "support" agents were the most ignorant, loathsome people I have ever talked to. I had to purchase a $16 recovery disk and buy a new hard drive. AVOID HP PAVILION AT ALL COSTS.

Sun Mar 09 2008I'm not a technophile, I'm just an average PC user. But I bought an HP Pavilion dv5000 in '06 and it has to be the worst machine I've ever used, much less bought. I've owned three, and, sadly, my Aptiva from '95 with the 66MHZ processor was probably the best of the lot. The other was a HP Compaq, which had issues, particularly with the printer and improper shutdowns. But from the beginning, the Pavilion's lightscribe function didn't work properly; the keyboard randomly locks in the CAPS function, and there is no way to get it unstuck until it decides it wants to be; after creating the backup discs that HP was too cheap to provide, following their instructions, every time I start up my machine I get a message telling me that I don't have much space left; the scratch pad does weird, hangup things; and now the DVD carriage pops open at random times, just for the heck of it. There's probably other things I'm unaware of, but I will never do business with HP or with Best Buy again.

Wed Dec 26 2007When I compared the screen processer memory it looked like a deal next to others in that price range. Do yourself a favor and walk away. Buy a Apple they just work beter and well built. The negitave ratings on the HP are real people that got burned .

Sun Sep 16 2007I have a dv1000, I think this is the lowend of this series, but for the money I spent on it (1400 dollars) I thought I would be getting a better deal, a built in graphics cards make sure you will never be able to play some good games. My computers crashed and died after 4 months of use, I don't know what it was a virus or hardware malfunction but the warrenty covered it for me, unfourtanetly they scammed me, they send me back a refurbished laptop, that isn't the same thing. It's a 15" screen instead of the 17" I used to have. Not only that but the keyboard on this thing is CRAP!!!! The keys are atrociously weak, typing on this thing kills it. I'm sorry but this is not the laptop to have, it loos cool and that's about it. Save your money and get something else. I give a fair warning.

Did you find the "Total Care" staff in India to be very polite, time-consuming, and utterly useless? .. Did the staff in India instruct you to re-install all the software? .. Did you make more than 4 calls to HP for troubleshooting? .. were you told a case manager will call, but no one did? .. were you told to call 877-917-4380 ext. 94 or 79 or 87 to speak with a case manager but got re-routed back to India or to a dead-end voice-mail? .. was a promise-date to get a replacement part or product missed by more than 5 days? .. Did you answer yes to most of the questions above? .. if yes, please answer two more... 1). Do you have a record of your case number? 2). Sun Aug 12 2007WARNING - DO NOT PURCHASE A HP PAVILION! I purchased one about six months ago from Best Buy. After all the software and the 'extra' warranty that Best Buy sells (yes, I am a big sucker) it came to $1,650.00. I am computer literate and have owned a few computers over the past years. This one is definitely the worst. I really haven't been able to use it anything for that requires reliability and it finally broke down completely about two months ago. (Fortunately I still have my old reliable Dell that is working.) The computer is still being serviced at HP. Both HP and Best Buy are completely useless as far as customer service is concerned. (NEVER BUY THE "EXTENDED SERVICE" warranty - BIG waste of money.) Customer service representatives from HP called a month after having the computer in their possession to see if anything was wrong with it (apparently they don't keep computer records either). Yes of course everyonce in a while something may happen, probably normally because of somethign I did myselve, but still the customer service/technicians help you right though the process.

Mon Mar 05 2007I have never had any luck with Compaq computers and I had my doubts about buying an hp pavilion. Well, my fears are well founded. It seems that compaq has brought the good name of hp down, rather than hp improving compaq. Here is a brand new hp pavilion a1606n with all the latest bells and whistles, and I've had to do a pc restore about once per month. This is very inconvenient as you have to re-install everything from scratch. I will never purchase an hp product again, save for their printer, they seem to work pretty good. They just haven't been able to 'invent' a computer that works yet...

I have an hp dv9000t and have never had one problem with it... installing any software, drivers, games, devices. never. I've never seen it 'crap out' as you put it. Hp makes great laptops, as long as you're not holding them accountable for user error...

Thu Jan 11 2007When I purchased my notebook brand new in July 2005 it was shipped to me already broken. After HP "fixed it" and sent it back, it broke again. Something with the motherboard . . . Now the problem is back, but this time they are refusing to help fix the computer as the warranty is expired. So all in all, I my notebook was broken from the beginning and is still broken, with no help from HP to fix it without paying a huge fee. Do not buy a computer from HP! I learned this the hard (and expensive) way.

Sun Oct 29 2006The ZE5400 really turned out to be an expensive piece of crap! It has a real problem with overheating - even when all of the noisy fans are running full blast all of the time. The first time my system simply melted down destroying the hard drive and motherboard. Was I "Safe" because I had purchased extended warranty? Heck No! HP fought me tooth and nail (one tech even told me it was a software problem!!!) every step of the way. Eventually it took 3 weeks and untold aggravation to get my system repaired. They replaced almost everything inside, but did that fix the problem? No! Less than 15 months later, my system is overheating again. No more HP laptops for me!

Wed Jul 05 2006I have a HP Pavilion ZE5416ea and is perfect to play music on, but the battery is worn a bit, though just got another battery off ebay and it's seems to have done the trick. it's great for music and video and does look nice, although playing games like need for speed on is too slow. someone else who wrote about this laptop is that it runs hot, though i've had mine for a while and seems fine to me? doesn't burn my lap or anything.

Fri Jun 02 2006I currently own four pavillions (all of differing model numbers) and maintain/upgrade two more. I could not be better satisfied with my pc's. I have never had any problems teaching myself to upgrade them (and yes i use quite a bit of info from hp's website [the site could be easier to navigate and give more info but it suffices]). The one time that I had to contact support they did aggravate me but in the end they solved the problem within 24 hours. All in all I would not consider any other make of pc!!

Mon Jan 23 2006When I got my laptop everything was great. I loved being able to play my computer game and use the internet etc...all the stuff that comes with computers. Well its been a few months and I have noticed a problem...my disk drive skips my music and my DVDs are choppy. I called customer service and was on the phone with a woman I couldn't understand (not big on outsourcing either) for an hour before she recommended I clean my drive. So I said "okay hold on" and I cleaned it...right there with her on the phone. It didn't work. So her solution? "you need a better cleaner" are you kidding me? I am very dissatisfied with their customer service and I'm surprised my disk drive wore out so fast considering I hardly use it. If I'm under warantee don't they have to fix it? Anyone who knows about this please message me.

Mon Jan 09 2006Incredibly awful machine. I have a strong suspicion that the damn thing shipped with a virus infestation. System Recovery doesn't work, and they're too cheap to ship a windows XP CD with it, and thatnks to Bill Gates you can't do a restore from another CD even if you are able to find your CD key for the HP. Generally the machine just plain sucks. They used the cheapest parts they could get away with so the cumulative effect is that a 3.3. Ghz procesor acts like a 1GHZ. I bought a clone PC at Frye's for $200 because it was loaded with Linspire. Loaded XP on it and its been rock solid. Stay away from HP at all costs!!!! One last thing - Wal-mart had a sale of HP laptops on Black Fridat, my buddy that works there told me a lot of them are being brought back to the store because they're just crapping out... Just FYI.

Tue Dec 20 2005Purchased an HP ZD8225ca...this is a great laptop...only complaint that I would have is that battery life is a little short, but for this sort of performance and a huge 17 inch widescreen I can live with that...if your looking for a laptop that will replace your desktop this is the one for you...

Wed Nov 02 2005HP Pavilion zd8000, At first this was great but then the tv went out, probably the tuner is bad. I have spent hours on the phone with customer support, more then ever watching the tv. They finally said the tuner was probably bad but I had to be called back by another representative, which never happened. Tried to call Best Buy but it would cost $60.00 just to look at it. Basically I have a bad part after having the computer 5 weeks and I can't get any assistance on it.

Thu Oct 27 2005I HATE my HP Pavillion dv1400 Notebook Computer! It runs way too hot, even on a cooling blanket. It is less than 3 months old, but they won't exchange it for a new one. The keys will one by one stop working and freeze up so I can't depress them, some make a crunchy sound on the right side of the keyboard and then the screen goes black. I sent it in for service--after a whole month and several calls I finally got it back, but it continues to do the same thing. I lost several software programs that I am unable to reload and use again. I have called to ask for an exchange, but they insist it passes their "tests". They will not back this product up. I am stuck and fed up.

Thu Oct 27 2005I will never buy another HP in my life, if one person reads this and then decides not to buy this crap computer than I did my job!! The screen cracked less than a year after I bought it, and then HP would not replace it even if I have a warrenty. DON'T EVER BUY AN HP, they are crap, and the company knows it!! Plus, the y will never replace it even if it isnt your fault what happened.

Mon Sep 12 2005HP overall just sucks. I have a pavilion, and you cannot install anything that involves anything complicated, or the computer craps out. The HP site also is abysmally bad. It lacks in any driver downloads for software, because of paranoia about stealing. I think that no person in their right mind should get an HP. EVER.

Wed Aug 03 2005I HATE!!! my HP Pavillion ze5400! It runs so hot that it is impossible to have on my lap. The heat even goes through 2 or 3 books and a cool mat that I set it on. I've sent it back to HP 2x and they send it back to me after having done no repairs, saying it's fine. The fan has such a high pitched whir that you can hear it from another room. When I speak to tech support I let them listen to it over the phone and they all say the same thing, Oh my God! That's not right! Then I send it in for service and again get it back with no changes. I feel 100% ripped off by this computer. I hate using it!

Sun Mar 27 2005Bought a customized zt3000 (basically a rebadged Compaq x1000), in January of 2004. After shopping around, I determined it to be the best deal, by far, for the features I wanted (especially the 1920x1200 display). It felt a bit cheap and flimsy. But, after it recently survived a fall from a table onto a hard floor - while running - I concluded that a notebook doesn't need to feel rigid to be tough. The only problem I had with it was that the ethernet interface would sometimes go down until the system was rebooted. I think this was fixed by a fairly recent driver update, but since I've become so accustomed to wireless networking, I haven't bothered to check.

Fri Feb 04 2005I bought a customized HP ZX5000 Pavilion Notebook about six months ago. It is the greatest computer I ever had. I bought it for college, to do school work, but it is also perfect for gaming(games like Halflife 2 and Farcry are beautiful on its big screen!). I bring it everywhere and it has taken a beating, but it still looks and works like new.
