Tue Apr 26 2011I love this food. I have a pit mix dog and at nearly one year of age she developed a spot above her eye that i thought was a scrap then spread to her muzzle. I brought her to the vet to find that she had mites (basicly an immune problem, not contagious) to find out the pit breed is very susceptable to this problem. The medication made her very lethargic, not at all like her puppy behavior. Needless to say i hated what it was doing to her. She had been eating Instinct, her fur also seemed dry from it. After researching the immune system i found that i needed a food that had pro-biotics and pre-biotics in it, also i have another dog which has allergies to potatoes. To find a dog food that has no potaoes and pro/pre biotics is difficult!! I tried Horizon legacy although pricey and got my pit-mix off the meds also both have very soft and shiny coats now. What a huge differance just wish i could find the food at a cheaper price.

Mon Jul 19 2010I have just switched my three Westies to Horizon Legacy - two 11 week olds and a four year old. We have been on it for about three weeks now and my pups and older gal absolutely love the food. Portions are smaller than the other food I had them on and fill them. After doing some major research I discovered this is the food I want my dogs on and was quite disturbed to know that I had been feeding my dogs sub-par food. Sub-par food although the dog food company supposedly was premium. Horizon Legacy is preimum and they are doing great. Have no idea what Alesha C. is all about but she should do some research and understand what her dogs should be eating.

Wed Jun 16 2010I am the manager of a small well respected premium dog and cat food store called Your Pet Pals in Victoria B.C. We have several high end brands of dog foods in our store. Horizon's Legacy is one of the best. When we have recommended certain foods quite often we will see 10 to 15% of a new food returned as it sometimes upsets or disagrees with the pet. Not with Legacy. We have not had one single bag returned this is indeed a testament to very clean well made high end kibble. Highly recommended!

Sat May 22 2010It took me about one and a half years to find a food that worked for my Golden. Ear infections, skin allergies and weight issues along with hip pain were the things I was looking for to correct. Promises from other so called high end dog food companies who would change their ingredients or the formula and amounts of certain products keeped me looking. A food would be good in one area but inflame another. Horizon is the only food to help in all areas without having to give in on another. Jake has been on it a full 7 months now and he is naturally a very large Golden ( 22lbs at only 10 weeks ) He was 130lbs with no energy, hip problems constant ear infections and scrathing. He is now 103lbs with none of these problems now and no vet bills. Yesterday he chased a rabbit across a 6 acre field into the woods and was kicking some serious dust. He has the energy of a 2yr dog with the wisdom of a 10yr old dog which he is. He deserves the best I can give him and Horizon along with a veggie mix i... Read more

Sun Oct 04 2009Excellent and affordable puppy food-I found that our puppy only needs half of this brand compared to other "filler" brands so the cost ends up being the same as lower quality food!! Why does no one know this?? I think that all the lower quality foods are actually more expensive on a per serving basis. Anyhow-Love it, would recommend it to all dog lovers.

Sat Sep 19 2009I am completely satisfied with the Horizon dog food product line :) My breeder recommended it for all stages of canine life. It has been perfect for my older Silky Terrier and for our new Great Dane puppy. She is growing at the ideal rate for her breed and she is healthy and full of energy. All dogs should be lucky enough to be feed this superior food. Keep up the good work Horizon!!!!

Wed Jan 28 2009I received a trial 10# bag of this food and was very pleased. The ingredients are first rate, it is made by a Canadian company (I tend to have a high comfort level with the small owned Canadian companies), and my pack loved it. They are pricing this food competitively with other high quality grain free and I'm looking forward to my distributor (k9cuisine.com) carrying this (sometime in February I believe) so I can test it further.

Tue Jan 13 2009I starting a rating for this food before realizing there was one already! This extremely high quality food is getting a 2 star rating here which is ridiculous. This happens simply because of one uninformed, ignorant rater who obviously knows nothing about what truly decent dog food is about. This food is always rated as one of the top 10 foods by experts. Trust the ratings on this one, all except the stupid one, the 1-star by Aleasha. The Horizon Legacy product is highly rated and doesnt contain junk and filler dogs dont need. I switched my dog to it a few months ago and she's gained weight, stopped her frequent vomiting and is overall much healthier looking and acting. No surprise since we didnt realize that the brands sold in supermarkets will slowly torture your dog to death. I feel so bad for feeding my 13 year old dog that junk for so many years. If you love your dog do some research and try Horizon Legacy.AleashaC, not quite sure what your point is but maybe reading this can h... Read more

Mon Nov 24 2008It would be a shame to see this excellent dog food go unnoticed. I have been feeding my 2 Cane Corso's Orijen which is an excellent dog food in itself. I was looking for an alternative just to change things up a little. After some research I came across Horizon Legacy and really liked the ingredients. After about a months use both dogs are doing really well. I believe this dog food is just as good or possibly even a little better than Orijen. I will continue to use both products. Anyone out there looking for an alternative Horizon Legacy is highly recommended. It is a Canadian made dog food and runs $59.99 for a big bag 28.6 lbs here in Canada. Its supposed to be released in the U.S. (soon or has already) but not sure.

Mon Sep 22 2008We have been transitioning our medium size 7 year old poodle mix onto this food over the past weeks time. So far so good. She isnt a picky dog, but she seems to love this even better than the origen and innova evo she had been on (both she did seem to do well on to). I like that it is made within my province (saskatchewan), and that it is potato free. The ingredient list seems so much better than the original horizon formulas that contain grain. She usually gets dry kibble in the morning when we are rushed, and raw in the evening when we have more time. Now that she seems to be enjoying it, the next ones to try the horizon legacy brand will be our 4 housecats.

Tue Sep 16 2008The first ingredient in Horizon is fresh chicken meat, which is impossible in a dry dog food. The second ingredient is chicken meal. Chicken meal is an ingredient often used in dry dog food and cat food. The third ingredient is salmond meal, which is not a healthy food for dogs.

Tue Jun 17 2008I started using Legacy because I do not trust Orijen anymore and needed a food to rotate with Evo Red Bites. So far so great. Check them out the product is superb!

Wed May 28 2008Horizon Legacy is by far the best pet food out there. Literally. I don't know why it seems no one on here knows about it. The company Horizon is a small facility located in Saskatchewan. Unlike other certain foods that claim to be merely "made in Canada," Horizon not only is Canadian, but actually sources 96% of all their ingredients within 100 km of their facility in Saskatchewan! No other pet food can possibly make this claim. They use ONLY completely human-grade ingredients, and obviously do not contain any sort of by-products, fillers, artificial flavors/colours/preservatives, wheat, corn, (or ANY grains, for that matter.) They use pea starch as their carbohydrate source, which is generally hypo-allergenic and also has a low score on the glycemic-index scale. (If you are unaware of the GI scale, look it up.)My dog is on this food and is doing absolutely perfect on it. I could go on and on about this food for endless paragraphs but instead, I think you should check out their website... Read more
