Fri May 13 2011Bought a brand new 2008 Honda Civic EX-L Coupe with 5-speed manual transmission almost 3 yrs ago. Have put less than 23,000 miles on it. Chose the Coupe for two reasons: stying, and the sedan did not include a subwoofer, but the Coupe did - since it is only the wife and I (kids grown & gone), back seat rarely has passengers anyway. (There are a surprising number of folks out there who don't realize that coupe means 2-door, while sedan means 4-door...if you were one, now you know.) Though rated at 34 mpg highway, we continue to enjoy a consistent 35 mpg on our long trips twice a year (we drive 5 mph faster than the posted limit). We've changed the oil a few times, and replaced the two front tires, and that's it - no problems, not even a rattle. Love the leather seats of the EX-L, which was on our list of must-haves as was the Aux input of the Premium sound system for our Zune - a device like iPod. In fact, the Civic EX-L had the whole dozen items on our list which was the pro... Read more

Tue Jun 29 2010I have currently 4 Honda civics and of different types. I own a 91 Si Hatch, 95 Civic del Sol S, 98 LX and a 98 EX. Been driving civics for years and I have NEVER had 1 problem with these cars. I bought them all used all with over a 100,000 miles and they are all running perfect and clean. I get over 40mpg with the del Sol and around 30-33 with the LX because its an auto. I dont drive the 91 at the moment, project car now, and I average between 35-38 with the EX. These cars are VERY fun to drive and cheap to insure. It cost me less than $100 for the 3 that I am driving. The VTEC in the EX can get you moving quick on the highway. The D15B7 in the del sol is ok. The gas mileage makes up for the weak 102hp. Not a sports car and its good enough for commuting. I wouldnt take it over any mountain passes though. The D16Y7 in the LX is equal in power to the D15 but feels stronger. Gets up to speed with a lot less fuss and noise. The build quality on these cars are fantastic. Love the interior ... Read more

Sat Jan 30 2010This is my second Honda civic ( 2009) and i owned a 2000 before this one. If you did the research and test drove the competation I don't understand why there isn't more Civics on the road. If you like a car that show "character" after a few months like squeaks, rattles and that noise you just can't figure out what it is and where it's coming from then the Civic isn't for you. If you like a car that after you have owned it for 2 or 3 years and you can't get half of the value out you put into it then civic isn't for you. Finally if you like going for an oil change and your mechanic finds another problem that's going to set you back a few hundred bucks, then civics are not for you. Civics are for people that have owned all of the aboved mensioned and is sick of it. They ,like any other Hondas, are top shelf.

Thu Jun 04 2009I'm thinking about buying a used Honda Civic this month (had enough of being car-less for 3.5 yrs) but they're pretty high on the used car price list. I hope it's a good move. I'm definitely going to take it to a mechanic to get it looked at. I know Hondas last forever, and I hope it isn't over-hyped.

Thu Feb 05 2009Hey I really wish I could buy an ameican car, but after driving these cars so many years it is really tough. Reliability gas mileage and price. If you can go around and find one 5 years old with 30,000 miles on them, they are out there pay 10,000 or less (BARGAIN WELL, I went from $12.5 to $8.3 K. )

Sun Dec 07 2008I had a 1994 Civic that was horrible. It had many electrical system problems that just could not be resolved. After putting up with this for 4 years, I got rid of it.

Fri Nov 28 20082007 not assembled as well as previous Hondas (83 Accord,95 Civic Si, 96 Civic LX)and paint chips easily. Interior mouldings misaligned and because of material, will never align properly. Road noise as with most Hondas can be distracting BUT this car is so much fun to drive. No longer requires timing belt change, it is now a chain. Would I buy another? You bet!

Thu Nov 20 2008Historically one of the best cars in this class. Solid repair records, fuel efficiency, and engineering. It was, pound for pound, the best car I've ever owned until I wrecked it. Thus began my losing streak of American cars until I swore them off.

Thu Nov 20 2008I had a used one for about a year and generally liked it until it got destroyed while parked. Pissed me off, because I usually wreck cars on my own. The destruction coincided with the need to buy a mini-van, so I never got another one.

Thu Nov 20 2008Newly designed, combined with the great reliabilty of Honda quality, hard to beat for the price range.

Mon Jul 21 2008I like the civic's evolution from a design standpoint. It seems to be a pretty solid winner in its place in the market because it doesn't come across as cheap, even though it is. It helps that I think they maintain the same styling across the higher-end civic hybrid.

Thu Nov 15 2007I just bought a 2005 Honda Civic Hybrid and I love it! 46 mpg all the time(And I have a lead Foot). Great gas mileage, reliable, and even though its a hybrid it is actually fun to drive! I would recomend it to anyone.

Tue May 22 20073.55 come on!! Most fuel efficient car company in America. Extremely popular. Reliable. Well priced. Fun to drive. Respectable. 4.5 is more like it, heck, make it 5.

Thu Mar 22 2007Very nice piece of work. It's one of the more popular cars around (where I am anyway). It has a sleek look and some hidden speed under it's belt. Very good on gas too.

Mon Aug 21 2006Fun to drive and great on gas mileage. Too small to be a family car, but perfect for somebody who likes to drive and doesn't need a whole lot of space.

Wed Mar 29 2006I got a 2006 Honda Civic SI. Its a really sweet car. Its a nighthawk black pearl color. Turns heads. Great car. Unique. You wont see many on the streets, unlike the pathetic Mustang.

Fri Jan 06 2006I have a 1999 Honda Civic sedan (4 door). It's great on gas, handles well, fits our baby car seat comfortably (though we had to put it behind the driver seat because of the hump in the middle of the back seat)..so it's not made for transporting children around - ideally they should be in the middle of the car. We bought it used in 2005 and immediately had trouble with the fan that cools the engine and the fuse for the air conditioning - but both were fairly inexpensive fixes. However, our driver side window sticks (is very hard to roll up) which is not something we did to the car but how it was manufactured. I also agree with the comments about limited leg room. My husband has to put the seat right back to drive and still feels cramped. I rated it a 3...

Wed Oct 19 2005I am on my third honda Civic and have loved them all. We are about to buy our next one. I have never had a problem with any of the Civics we have owned

Sat Oct 15 2005I'm on my second one, so I'm a repeat customer. They handle well, they get great mileage, and they're damned reliable. They can stand up to the worst treatment--even with problems, they still start up and drive. They've very tough. And despite their size, they can handle water on the roads that some cars couldn't, just because of this insatiable will to live they seem to have. But both Civics I've had have had A/C problems early on. I don't know what's up with that.

Tue Oct 04 2005Excellent 4 Dr. Vehicle - Reliable, comfortable, fun to drivem great mileage (33-35 mph) !!!

Fri Sep 30 2005A smart car from a smart manufactuer. Honda carved out this sub-compact segment of the auto industry and continues to dominate it.

Mon Sep 26 2005Can you say: Cracked exhaust? Malfunctioning speedometer? Cracked distributor cap? Window sliding off track? Bad 02 Sensor? Leaking AC sysem? In doing "after the fact" research I discovered these are "common problems" for my 1998 Civic LX. Depending on who you talk to and on what day, Honda may or may not acknowlege the issue and or offer assistance. The dealer parts are expesnive, but this applies to ALL CAR MAKERS. Other than these issues and "sheet metal" that dimples if you stare at it hard enough, the car has been reliable.

Fri Sep 09 2005I drove one once, and I felt like I was driving a go-cart. I had to hunch over to keep from hitting my head, and even with the seat all the way back there was no leg room, and the steering wheel was between my knees. I want good gas mileage as much as anyone, but you can't sacrifice all comfort to get it.

Wed Aug 31 2005Excellent, trouble-free product (the way cars were once made).

Wed Jun 15 2005Based on my experience with a 1992 Civic sedan (manual transmission), I'd recommend it to anyone shopping for a car this size. Sold mine in 2001, and at nine years and about 112K miles, it never had any major problems. Ran well, got great gas mileage (up to 40 mpg, but that was somewhat of a fluke - 36-37 was more like it), and was a lot of fun to drive.

Mon Dec 13 2004Quite honestly the best four-door vehicle I have ever been in. I drive one from work to home, and the communal thoroughfare is absolutely amazing!!!! Buy one...you'll regret it if you don't.

Sat Nov 13 2004I don't own a Civic but I have been looking at purchasing a 2000 or 2001 Civic. I know that what car companies advertise for fuel ratings aren't entirely realistic unless you drive like grandma. I was wondering if anyone with a 2000-2001 Civic could tell me what they average for mileage on a tank of gas on the highway. Any info about this would be greatly appreciated.

Thu Jul 29 2004The Civic really is an all around car for realiability, but I absolutely HATE all the nu rich boys that think the Civic is some kinda sports car. If they can spend some g's on a body kit, paint job and mufflers, they might as well have settled for a REAL sports car. Of course, this may only happen where I live, but I'm sick of it. Just had to get that off my chest. This is RIA, after all.

Tue Jun 29 2004The Honda Civic is a solid choice. Reliable, fuel efficient, with decent dynamics (though inferior in this respect to the Focus). Its a bit pricey, though, which hurts it in my books. Yes, it holds its value, but if you keep a car for 12-14 years as I do, its not going to be worth anything when you get a new car, no matter who made it.

Tue May 18 2004Great car with good gas mileage. The hybrid version has excellent engineering.
by wildkard51
Mon May 17 2004You gotta admit, the civic is very reliable and is good transportation for the money. Plus, there is a gigantic aftermarket following for all models of the civic, so its not completely hopeless.
by joshkon2525
Fri May 14 2004Great! for a little more get the hybrid version. Fill up only once a month! In addition, instead of paying $50-60 a month on gas, pay only $10

Wed May 12 2004Talking about an engine yes its slightly okay , taking about the shape 2001 and on wards sucks so should be bigger from inside .. Spare Parts are expensive for a japanesse car .. Gear is funny sometimes .. Brakes or totaly screwed ..

Wed Apr 21 2004I have a '99 Honda Civic Coupe with manual transmission. It had to have major transmission work at 50,000 miles. Honda Service said it was not covered under warrantee, but changed their story after I complained. My sister had a '98 Honda Civic (automatic transmission). She had to take it in 6 times for repairs in the first 8 months of owning it new. She also had to struggle to get things covered under warrantee. If you are considering buying a Honda, google Honda Civiv problems transmission. I would not buy a Honda again.

Tue Apr 20 20042000 Honda Civic LX auto trans - worst car. At 50,000 miles alternator and battery went, heat shield and muffler problems. Would never buy another Honda
